CPU overheating during play

Hi, since last week I had some problems with OW. My CPU temp were spiking causing FPS drops, from ~144 to ~60, screen freezes and then PC shut down. Motherboard killed everything when CPU temp spiked around 90C.
Normally I had CPU temp ~30C without load, ~60C when playing. I still have average of ~65C when playing, but number of spikes during longer session went up through the roof, hitting 80C every 5-10 minutes.
First I thought its my problem. I had little bit of dust in my PC (it looked like inside of vacuum cleaner), but my friends reported same problem without the 1cm layer of dust everywhere.
Do you have same problems? Do you have some solutions?

CPUs involved: i7-6700K, i7-8700K

Just a quick one where are you getting your cpu temp from?

Just wanna rule out your not getting it form the ingame “TMP” number as that is your Gpu temp.

What would cause that kinda temp is the game for whatever reason is using 100% load of your CPU.

Pc shutting down = Very big problem check that your cpu fan/Aio is working.

8700k TJ max is like 103 degree’s C. So your pc shouldn’t shut down until ti exceeds that temp.

However the 6700k +8700k is un-soldiered which means it runs alot hotter than a properly made cpu.

Id suggest that if your fan is clean and working correct to look into “de-lidding” your CPU (Very easy to do takes 20-40 degrees heat off) & Invest is a 280mm Aio cooler such a the Kraken x62.

From Arx Control, not best one, but easy to use. Its CPU not GPU temp.

That is another thing, CPU never goes near to 100%.

It is/was. I think i moved the safeguard down a bit in BIOS. So its 5C lower than normally. BTW I have 6700K.

I am afraid of de-lidding, but will look more into it. From yesterday i am proud owner of 240mm Aio. Hope it will help…

But I never had this problem before…
