Counter the Bastion + Mercy + Orisa/Rein Deathball

I seriously AM SO FRUSTRATED over this strategy.

I played a match on Junkertown where we had a whole 5 minutes to get the payload to a set destination in order to win. The enemy team went Bastion, Rein, Orisa, Mercy, Moira, and Junkrat and I swear WE COULD NOT DO ANYTHING!!!

They were so bunched up together and they had those little walls on the high ground to protect themselves while the shields were regenerating and WE COULDNT KILL ANYONE!!! We ended up constantly getting melted by the Bastion and it is so frustrating cause even when we did kill the Bastion, the Mercy just Rez’s him and when we would try to focus the Mercy, NOPE. Bastion straight up melts us for attempting to do so.

Seriously can someone tell me how to counter this mega cheese-ball death comp? I went Pharah to try and take a longer range to attack their stationary position, didnt work because Rein and Orisa shield. We had a Junkrat along with the Pharah and it still didn’t work because the Rein would keep recharging his shield in between picks when only the Orisa shield was necessary and at least one of us was dead.

This has happened twice. It’s seriously making me want to pull my hair out. Any tips to just immediately destroy this comp?

They lacked range, so consistent sniper fire + your team’s gunfire will break shields at some point, and a sniper can make a pick and you push.

Or a Sombra, that comp is crippled by an EMP. She even got buffs!

If you are skilled Tracer you have to harass and hide repeatedly on their back so they have to turn around, then your friend in the front have to take the chance.

Or you can use Sombra for a guaranteed backline but less offensive power.

With less coordinated team Mei can get your team in front of the payload with ice wall, then you try to swarm them from multiple directions and hope for Bastion and Mercy to panic. If you can get Junkrat/Pharah close to them by this a double concussion/concussive might be able to send everyone out of position.

This particular comp is powerful in QP because it’s “automatically coordinated”. Everyone knows what to do even without a voice comm when it started. This leave the defending team at disadvantage because usually to break this you also have to coordinate.

Sombra’s stealth + EMP would be devastating. Or you could wraith form in with a Reaper. Also you could try bringing your own Bastion to the party but that would be considerably more risky. Moira’s death balls are fun to lob at groups of enemies too. Also if you had a Junkrat you could let it rip and gg ez them. Or a Mei blizzard. Or just hammer them from a distance with Soldier until the shield breaks then throw in a helix rocket. Hanzo’s Ult would be sure to make them at least reposition. If all else fails throw a Graviton Surge right in the middle and pray for a follow up.
EDIT: Oh yeah and how could I forget about a good ol’ classic NERF THIS!

Symmetra.

Sombra’s Hack forces Bastion into Configuration: Recon, prevents Orisa from refreshing her shield, or prevents Mercy from resurrecting Bastion. EMP does all three at once. As long as at least one teammate capitalizes on the hacks, you can stop this strategy.

Easy to counterplay:

Sombra + teamplay

This comp is still so rare, that I don’t think it should give you any issues.

I’m sorry, but how exactly is she a counter to that cheese?

Depends a bit on the enemy team and how they react or your team and how you work together.

Shield break: get chars to break their shields fast. Junk is great for this. Pharah can be good too. Soldier even. Possibly counter Bastion.

Dive: gotta be somewhat coordinated but dive in and try to overwhelm them that way. Genji with his deflect is good for this. So is D.Va with matrix. If she gets her ult she can toss it right in the payload.

Pull: use Orisa and/or Hog to pull Rein or Bastion off the payload and open things up.

Tracer: can be a bit hard but if she can build pulse fast enough she then needs to sneak it in. Do that it’s generally gg.

Reaper: sneak in from behind and tear things up. Hopefully your team will respond and join you.

Or do what some OWL teams did and set up on the side and attack as soon as they leave spawn. Hit them before they even get on the payload. Done by hiding in the building to the left of the attacker spawn (their left) and coming out only as the gate opens. Usually with an Orisa for her pull and shield.

Her orbs penetrate shields and force the Bastion to move. Mercy has to choose who to heal between the Rein and Bastion since you should be aiming to hit both. If she lets one die you’ve broken the cheese. If she tries to Rez she’s an easy target for the orbs that you’ll still be spamming.
