Could OW Learn Anything From TF2?

i was thinking about the cod pick 10 system but realized that there was a hero shooter that had already tried something similar at least from what i hear.

if i understand correctly, tf2 classes had multiple weapons they could select from like between say an axe or a electric gauntlet for 1 of the melee classes. i dont know what other secondary weapons or abilities they had and whether there were choices there.

but is there anything else ow could learn from its old friend?

I think they could learn from TF2 to have more versatility in heroes kits.

One lesson they did unlearn though is the Medic Ubercharge. Most passive healing kit with the most impactful ability.
They learned it with Mass Rez but as they reworked Mercy, they did make her less interesting.

TF2 loadouts were entire “new” characters in OW.

You went from a junkrat to a brigitte in one loadout change.

… sorta.

It’s not something new, it’s just a slightly more versatile way to have different heroes with the opportunity to pick and chose bits of kit you like within a certain range.

One thing OW2 could learn from tf2 is gamemode/map selection, map votes.
Or how to properly do 5cp and push and maybe other gamemodes like MvM for PvE inspiration and learn from tf2’s mistakes.

Tf2 classes did not really have abilities unless passives like scout’s speed and agility or pyro’s immunity to afterburn etc. Everything was more weapon based and every class had unique melee weapons.

However, due to each class having so many weapons hardcountering by switching to another class was not always necessary as one could just chose a specific weapon/loadout for a specific situation and sometimes even soft-counter their hard-counters.

That specifically? No.

What TF2 does with weapon variety Overwatch does with character variety. TF2 only has, what, 7 characters? Imagine doing that with over 40.

Overwatch is basically already doing that, just not by adding weapons, but by adding characters.

Imagine what the game could’ve become if they invested all those resources they put into OW2 into slowly improving the workshop :sob: it could’ve been so great. Whole community maps, modes, make the best ones official events, endless possibilities.

I absolutely don’t want Overwatch to have versatility in weapons like in TF2.

I want to know when I face a tracer that she Can do this and that. I don’t want to have to remember all the potential weapons/ability that she might have.
