Could OW handle custom weapon loadouts?

You know how TF2 has custom loadouts with unique weapons and items to fight with? Do you think Overwatch would benefit from that? Automatic upsides would be that you could practically have your perfect version of a character.

If I think Mercy should stay as she is, but you think Mercy should be more battle oriented, we could have a completely unique loadout that tweaks Mercy to play the way we think is ideal. Plus, it would be fun to think up unique items for the character.

Maybe Reinhardt could get an item that replaces his shield with second hammer that he can block with and throw, or Widowmaker could get a gun that makes her more of a close range sniper or something.

The hardest part is making sure the new weapons aren’t just flat buffs, but that’s doable with time. We all can think up side grade weapons.

No 20 Characters…No

Why?

Funny you mention this, with all the “itz da same game” whining, if they had put a different kit balance together for each one and let you set it, I think it would have gone a long way towards giving the game a different feel.

I do think that it’s possible some of the PVE abilities may one day be slotted into PVP characters, several years out.

They cant even balance what they have now, this is throwing a massive monkey wrench into the mix.

But they can’t balance it now BECAUSE everyone wants competing things. Custom loadouts would be an instant fix to that.

Of course, another fix is ignoring the OW community altogether. All too often, OW fans suggests changes, get the changes, and then complain about those changes in some way.

Oh hell no.

Blizzard would have an insane number of things to balance. Characters would lose their identity. There would be a tier list and a best weapon, so would ultimately it wouldn’t matter. And they would put that stuff in battle pass. Either you buy the best weapon or you don’t and have a disadvantage.

Bad idea from every angle.

I think they have that kind of stuff on paladins and don´t seem pretty balanced, i think it adds too much variables when it comes to balance

I find it funny how decades old games can handle things that Overwatch simply can’t. You’d think Blizzard could find a way to improve upon these concepts since companies like Valve and Activision laid the foundation, but look at where we are.

This is solved by being commited to balance. Seeing which guns do what and how they change the character. Again, if its not possible, why has valve done it time and time again?

sorry man, but from my experience with paladins this is simply not true. One of the loadouts always end up becoming a lot better than the other ones and at the end of the day is like the heroes only have one playstyle

the suggestion is cool, but only creates unecessary problems, i rather have new heroes

Paladins is not every single game to exist. I gave you an example of this format working out: team fortress 2. Paladin’s devs couldn’t get it right, but Valve could. This seems like a developer issue to me.

why not simply make new heroes instead of putting different loadouts on the same hero? what´s the purpose?

Blizzard can’t even balance the game with characters they have had since day one. Imagine how bad things would be with custom rollouts

The purpose of custom loadouts is to provide fresh alternatives to an existing character. You can certainly add characters and loadouts to keep Overatch feeling unique for years to come.

Why has TF2 lived longer than Overwatch? What are TF2 fans playing the same old game for years, and with a smile, while Overwatch fans basically spit in the direction of Overwatch? I think its because Valve has created ways to keep TF2 feeling like a new game.

You see, if I’m running a different loadout on Genji, I could fight five other genji’s (or more) with a completely different load out. Think of how the 1v1 would change. That alone would keep people coming back.

Of course…we could just settle with Battle passes right?

Or you could create new heroes with said loadouts and still keep the game fresh while avoiding lots of problems, i really don´t see why

Not weapons, but I imagine skill trees is a possibility in the future once they release PVE

but i think he´s talking about PVP, in my opinion it would be a complete mess

The game revolves around identities.

If you want to have weapons like personal skill trees, then you end up with a stale meta and huge balance issues

If you want generic load out like in Apex then you utterly break the game because it interferes with the identity of the characters

Isn’t Paladins a Battle Royal?

How does paladins compare to a highly competitive, small role based team objective shooter?

I didn’t say generic loadouts. It’d be load outs tied to the characters. So tracer would always have pulse pistols, but the way the pistols handle would be different.
