Content Starvation

Replacing archives with an event like this just feels like a slap to the entire community, especially with such a low effort skin. How much harder is it to make a decent legendary rather than a recolour epic with a few extra assets?

I remember being excited to play OW specially during archives knowing I might learn some new lore, fight in new co-op modes, etc. yet now we are just purely without content for what, a year now deathmatch maps are not the ‘content’ people are begging for, short stories are not what the majority of people want. people want tangible new content that isnt locked behind what is essentially a paywall (ow2).

best case scenario, the content we (HOPE) to get from buying ow2, will end up being the same amount of content we shouldve expected to get in the last year since echo’s release (expected meaning the bare minimum content required to retain a living/thriving playerbase).

This is not replacing Archives though. That’s coming later, I’m pretty sure.

Archives last year began on march 12th, this pachimari one began 3 days just before there is a huge amount of time overlap.

archives event dates change. and there is usually an challenge skin such as this one before archives (last years being ashe mardi gras)

so no, its not replacing archives period. its just starting a little later ok?

personally im not going to hold my breath as the time frames between each of these future events overlaps almost fully, it very much seems like this is a replacement event as they cant be creating lore based events outside of ow2

  • Archives 2017 (Uprising) ran from 11 April, 2017 to 2 May, 2017.
  • Archives 2018 (Retribution) ran from 10 April, 2018 to 30 April, 2018.
  • Archives 2019 (Storm Rising) ran from 16 April, 2019 to May 6, 2019.
  • Archives 2020 ran from 12 March, 2020 to 2 April, 2020.

It only started in March once. No, this event does not replace the Archives event.

The reason they moved Archives 2020 to be sooner was because they delayed Echo’s release from the regular hero release schedule. All other Archives events before 2020 started in April.

Why are so many ppl thinking that this mini event is replacing archives?? Or saying that archives won’t happen because of this event?? I’m so confused O.O

idk how you think that, it very clearly isn’t, also they can bring more overwatch lore for archives as long as it happened in the past, ow2 only covers what is happening in the current timeline and archives focus what on what has already happened in the lore, because lore is stuff that already happened.

they could release something new for archives if they wanted, they probably won’t and we shouldn’t expect much, doesn’t mean it won’t happen

That doesn’t really mean anything… Skin events can run at the same time as actual events. I mean, most events have 1 skin event each week…

Last years archives start date was the exception, not the rule. 2017, 2018 and 2019 all started between 10th - 16th April. Archives is still happening this year in April when it normally would.

We’re getting more content and now we’re complaining about that changing the time of events is changing the amount of content we get… right.

What content are you talking about?

Isn’t this event like some kind of content?

Even if they weren’t working on OW2 there would just be the exact same events just with a different color.
At most they’d invest more time in balancing.

Archives has been in April every year except last year.

I thought it’d be common sense that Covid would delay a few things, so it seemed obvious to expect Archives to not maintain its one-time March appearance :woman_shrugging:

Last year we had Mardis Gras Ashe and the archives event both close together, so Im not sure its a ‘replacement’

At least we’re still getting some content, blizzard hasn’t completely forgotten about OW unlike other companies who completely neglect their players…

Archives came an entire month early in 2020, its usually an April event.

Histrionic screeching and doomsaying go hand in hand.
