Content drought right now

All right, let me prep this by saying, I understand that Blizzard is hard at work (wow first time I’ve said that) making OW2. However, I don’t quite understand why they can’t at least give the forums something to hate on.

I’ve seen some people say, “Oh, just grit your teeth and bare it.”
We can’t, because we haven’t got a new map since Havana, a map released in MAY (7 months ago). We also haven’t gotten a character in 4-5 months now, the latest being Sigma, and we all know what Sigma brought along… (SHIELDDDD METAA). Hell, we haven’t gotten a teaser. When Jeff says, “You’ll have at least one new hero before OW2” (something along those lines), he means you will only get one new character. Let me list why we can’t wait for OW2 before we get anything.

  1. Release date of OW2.
Sure, they have could import the other assets from OW1 and boom half of the work done, but they still have to do graphics, the new push mode & maps, and especially the new PVE mode. It wont take a couple of months, it’ll take AT LEAST a year minimum. It’ll probably be released late 2020 (minimum) or or early/mid 2021 (maximum).

  2. OW1 right now.
We have something to do at least (in the form of the winter events) while I’m writing this, but once Winter Wonderland passes, then what? Sit around, wait for a new event & patch notes (and then get disappointed)? Pray for a new character to be teased? We have virtually NOTHING. Workshop is a band-aid to a giant wound. It’s not long before people are gonna quit because of boredom. Hell, a skin challenge thingy could work (Bastet Ana, Nano D.Va, etc.).

  3. Balancing issues.
Well, this is self explanatory. Blizzard doesn’t know what to do and so just picks random characters, and says either “die” or “become absurdly overpowered.”
Lets look at a character who is underpowered. Zenyatta. I can hear people readying their keyboard swords, please calm down. Zenyatta has literally no movement abilities or self peel. Hell, he doesn’t even have burst (Discord Orb doesn’t count 'cause he still has to manually shoot them). Characters like Doomfist and Reaper start to fantasize about a sweet juicy kill and free ult charge when they see Zeny. Also, his healing isn’t the best, doing 30 hp per second, it’s mediocre but I could see why, because you can place and forget it, meaning you can do damage to build ult AND heal to also get ult. But I’ll stop here because this “”“rant”"" isn’t about Zenyatta.

Alright, that’s the end. I’m not mad, just disappointed. But hey, I’m a stupid unranked Mei main, who thinks Doomfist and McCree are busted. Don’t take anything seriously especially the Zenyatta part. Thanks youse.

i do agree with you but i wanted to add some notes to what you’re saying

yup… now that they’ve announced overwatch 2 the devs expect us to fully understand why they’re putting out even less content…

yeah Jeff said “we also will be talking about overwatch 2 at the next blizzcon” which pretty much confirms what you’re saying and this is what i have to say about ow2

exactly i literally have everything that i can get out of normal lootboxes and i have enough credit that i can buy an entire event’s worth of cosmetic stuff and still have leftover credit! i could just drop the game between events and nothing would change!

i’ve mentioned this b4… if there was something better than overwatch i’d play it overwatch is stale as hell but it’s just fun… it’s like going to your local pub there’s nothing new there but you get to hang out w/ friends and have fun

they do trust me they do it’s just that it takes time to get it right the issue is that adding new heroes constantly and stuff like 2-2-2 throw the game out of balance really hard

zen used to be really good he just got… out-meta’d and powercrept
(i read the whole thing but i didn’t wanna quote the whole thing it’d take up a lot of space…)

yeah the story of overwatch is just bittersweet at this point… it just makes me sad that i can’t wholeheartedly recommend the game to others anymore…

your opinion is valid no matter who you play or what you think!

Whole-heartedly agree. And to add an even more…negative side to things.

Overwatch on launch was not worth the $60 price tag. It was a shell of a game. I’d say it only earned it’s pricetag this year. No other dev would’ve gotten away with releasing a game with so little content and taking 3 years to make it worth it.

OW1 was not what the devs wanted Overwatch to be. Overwatch was a beta-test if you will for OW2. The story aspects have always been there but I’m guessing budget crunches and stuff limited how much OW1 could be involved with that.

OW2 is what the devs wanted OW1 to be. Limiting the content released to game that’s out right now is completely unacceptable. Many people will argue “the devs add content for free yadda yadda yadda”. No. They didn’t.

Overwatch’s initial install file was 19gb. 19gb for an xbox one game is absurdly small. (inb4 big game=good) Overwatch had about as much content as Paladins or even Fortnite, free to play games. The $40-$60 we paid was for the content they’re trusted to release. We already paid for that new hero in 3 months.

Blizzards marketing team are gods because they actually managed to convince people that the devs are creating content out of the kindness of their heart. God bless those innocent souls.

Anyways that kinda went off on a tangent

I think they should release 2 heroes before OW2, one being very soon, in January ideally. With 2-2-2 being added they’re still in the process of balancing everything around that so I think holding off on a hero for now is actually a smart move or it’ll probably break the game the way Sigma did. That being said, I do think having multiple heroes launch with OW2 is a fantastic idea, because it will almost feel like a new game if there’s 3+ brand new heroes to play at once. The meta will surely be in chaos as Blizzard said they wanted.

I have nearly 100 hours on Zenyatta. If a buff is necessary then just revert the discord nerf.

Storm rising was a great indicator for how this year would go.

Very, very disappointingly.
