Contenders salary

I get the same amount of money from my grandparents for Christmas than contenders players make in an entire year of scrimming up to 60 hours per week, that’s actually really sad

Unless you’re a video game god, on an OWL team, got some serious sponsors, or have a huge twitch following, you’ll make better money at a Home Depot or McDonalds. Remember kids, people call college a scam, but higher education of any kind is usually better than trying to make a living gaming

I see you’ve been watching xQc’s Sctream, well I saw him talk about it in a youtube video.

Yawn. Explain your own opinion next time instead of mindlessly posting videos.

Yawn. Maybe appreciate the fact that he posted a good video about the topic in a thread about the topic instead of mindlessly complaining.

Nah I heard from wub that the contendies players are only getting paid 300$ as a yearly salary and I’m pretty sure that’s actually illegal for the amount of work and time they put in, especially in such a stale meta

I can’t imagine any contender making a living, especially if there’s not enough tournaments and pot money for it since Blizzard set a limit of 10k for tournament if it’s not hosted by Blizzard iirc.

How much do you think college athletes are paid?

This is being debated right now and actually might change

Housing, food, their tuition, being able to graduate college without debt, an actual chance to get into a pro team instead of a twitch streamer who skipped the pathway onto a team just to get benched with a 30k salary

its not surprising tbh.

they put so much money into OWL … the owners want that money back, so it makes sense to only support OWL and their players. contenders is only taking audience from the whole OWL thing.

Dont forget they also dont get paid till over 6 months after the season

Its literally all over twitter and its an outrage, considering Blizzard just bought multiple content creators Nintendo Switch’s with Overwatch for the Switch.

Its disgusting how they treat T2 and I see no future for OW Esports if they continue like this

why is it disgusting…??

no one is forcing them to play it… they just dont want to find a real job …

So? Just because they want to play video games, instantly means they cant get PAID on time? Reminder, I’m not even arguing HOW much they get paid.

But getting paid 6 months after when they should be paid? Seriously? And its even more of a slap in the face when they give content creators all of this extra stuff and they cant even get paid remotely on time.

You make a lot of gross over statements here.

You are talking about the star athletes on the team. Not every single one gets what you described.

Most importantly though no matter what they get a salary of $0, which is the point.

If you want to be a pro then guess what you have to sacrifice and earn it.

That’s why most pros are not relying on their salary to support their entire lives and most of them have streams and sponsors.

That’s about to become outdates. LeBron James and other NBA players like Draymond Green. Are fighting NCAA to make them pay college athelets. California in the process of passing a bill to make NCAA pay their athelets.

And this is why we have unions in the first place. This is why ever Major sports team I can think of have a player Union the NBA, the baseball.

Yeah, a player union for OW has been talked about, idk how you set one up tho
A lot of people are in favor of it

The issue I see with Owl get a Union is how long it generally takes. For example the NBA was fully formed in 1946. The player Union didn’t form until the late 60s- early 70s. I can see this taking five years or longer and we don’t even know if overwatch will be a thing.
