Constructive Moira thread

Shes the hot topic again, and its coming up a lot over and over.
I love moira, one of my favorite heroes by far.

But i can understand how her design is lame.
It really is. I personally wish it was a bit more engaging, a bit more…spicy?
and also feel less cheesy for opponents while we are at it.

so please, post and elaborate your personal ideas on how you would improve her in your opinion.

I think Moira is fine, she is meant to be good at healing (which she is) and can assist the dps players in doing damage when they need help, so her kit works well with this. I’ve seen some people hate on Moiras that have “all gold medals” and the dps are like “oh that’s because you’re playing Moira, and she does so much damage”, Moira is very easy to out damage, so the hate on her doesn’t quite make sense to me lol. I admit, she is very easy, arguably the easiest hero in the game, but when people say she is “op”, they really need to wake up. But hey, that’s just my opinion.

Just make her beam less forgiving, even if it was 0.5 beam width it’d still be better than it is currently.

Then from there we could buff her, since her current beam width is holding her back by quite a bit.

I have some suggestions that I think would fix A LOT

  • Tighten her beam width by 20%
  • Increased healing resources given by 20%
  • Revert life steal
  • Remove damage orb
  • Damage orb replaced with a cleansing orb
  • Cleaning orb on same cooldown and duration as damage
  • Cleanses allies in area gradually by 3-5% per second

I feel like all these changes would not only give her utility that is needed on her, but also removes the whole “no brain no aim” thing DPS have going on right now.

im not sure i understand your cleansing orb.
do you want it to replace both orbs, or just the damage variant?
and what do you mean it cleanses allies by 3-5%?

It only replaces damage orb, so healing orb is still there and instead picking between damage or healing, you pick between cleansing or healing.

Say you’re anti-naded. That’s 100% anti heal. The cleansing orb would latch to allies like it does the healing orb, and gently reduce the potency of effects.

Say you throw an cleansing orb toward a team of antied allies, it could cleanse them all for about 3% per second it’s near them. So if it hangs around for a couple seconds that’s a total of 9%, more if less allies are taking the cleanse, like heal orb. Therefore, the anti-heal wouldn’t be blocking 100% of healing, allowing Moira to do her job, but it doesn’t HARD counter these effects. You catch my drift?

This would work with poison, burning, anti-heal, damage over time effects, slows, freeze, etc.

aaaah ok i think i get it. sounds pretty unique and cool tbh.
i personally worry that it might be not as useful though.
antiheal goes away after a few seconds, and all other effects can instead just be healed through with the healing she has.

Adding this ability would work in many situations

  • Ana nade - It does go away but during that time, teams can be erased it’s VERY powerful.
  • Ashe spamming tnt and you want to DENY the ult charge which sounds like smart gameplay to me :wink:
  • Reducing Sym and Mei choke spam with slowing effects allowing for Tanks that don’t have anti CC to play through chokes better.
  • Allows for the devs to add more Poison/damage over time without fear of it being broken.
  • Stops Widow from getting that cheeky pick with venom mine (VERY rare but still)

The best part about this is it allows Moira to keep her power in her primary and lean her towards support more with this new utility. Will it work against all teams? Nah, if they don’t have Ashe, Ana, Mei, Sym. But I feel like letting her have this is better than a damage orb that most good Moiras just throw around for ult charge anyway.

It adds complexity and another layer to her gameplay. Rather than; damage, heal, damage, heal, ult (both at once) rinse and repeat

Any moira rework needs to:

Keep her as an anti-flanker, so having a consistent way to deal damage.

Keep damage/heal ratio the same. Any ability she uses to damage someone, she has an opposite ability to heal someone. That was done purposely because that’s the nature of her design: duality. It’s everywhere in her character design, in her lore, her backstory, hell even her two eyes are separate colors. Moral and healing/damaging duality is as important to her character as angelic aesthetics are to mercy, and to change that part of her kit would be like giving Genji something that doesn’t make sense for a cyber ninja to have.

needs to keep her orbs. They appear in highlight intros, sprays, emotes, etc. unlike scatter arrow or mass res, her orb pops up in her character art and animations way more often.

Making her beam slightly tighter, making her orbs stick after the first bounce but with higher numbers, and making her ult take more ult charge to completely charge up, but having it speed up allies/ slow down enemies is one I like.

yea i too think if anything, changes to the mechanic details are needed, but not a whole redesign of the character

Healing orb would still be an option? If so, I’m OK with that idea, though I think cleanse should be all or nothing vs percentage based.

btw while we are talking about cleanses, why dont healpack cleanse anti nade?
they cleanse every other poison and burn etc… seems like something that shouldve always been in there lol… alright keep going

oh and i forgot i didnt even add any of my own thoughts on moira.
while i think slimming down her beam wouldnt be too bad, i also think it would kinda change her “feel” too much. but maybe it could work.

on the other hand i would like her orbs interaction with players and environment changed a little. i want to have more control over them, and also want players to put a little more effort into using this ability. maybe making them only bounce 1-2 times, but now you can re-activate them to burst and deal all healing/damage at once? idk i dont have very specific ideas tbh

I think there isn’t really an inherent problem with having a support without any kind of utility besides healing and damage. I think this is also something that makes moira unique.

The issue is that moira takes little skill, but she also has little opportunity to express skill if she does have it. However I don’t think simply making it harder to aim is the solution as that’s exactly what makes her strong vs flankers.

I think reducing the life steal was a good decision by blizzard. This is one of the main abilities that makes her a problem in low ranks but not in high ranks. Reaper’s changes were further evidence of how much this type of ability makes her so good in lower tiers.

There is obviously a difference between a GM moira and a gold moira. To improve moira’s design it could be a good idea to look at the differences between good and bad moiras, and increase the importance of those skills.

The main things that come to my mind are resource management, fade usage and orb usage. Awareness, positioning and game sense too but those are not really specific to moira.

Here are some potential balance changes:
-Reduce the amount of resources she has, by 30-50%
-increase passive resource gain by ~20%
-increase hps to 75-100
-decrease lingering hps to last only 2s
And this might work too but I’m less sure:
-Reduce fade cooldown by 1s
-Fade movement speed reduced from x2.5 to x2

Cleaned won’t ever happen. It would allow too much of a way to mitigate CC and make heroes unstoppable, especially paring with Zarya in good teams.

Imagine a nano-Genji who gets bubbles then cleansed by an orb that follows along his path of attack…
