Contrary to what you guys think the devs did pay attention to the massive steam review bomb that happened. They posted an article about it and their takeaway from it was that people were unhappy PVE got cancelled, which obviously is only half the story.
See, this is what happens when the only thing you do is post ascii photos of DVA’s butt cracking jokes about how the NSFW content online took more effort than the game and then putting links to TF 2 in some incoherent vent posts.
And sure, there might of been one or two thoughtful reviews outlining what the beef was about and what the devs could of did better, but they were buried underneath a bunch of people acting insanely butthurt.
This would of actually helped your cause:
“Can we get 5v5 open queue replaced by a 6v6 open queue “legacy” mode?”
“Can we get lower prices in the store? Maybe 15 bucks a skin instead of 19?”
“Can we get more free currency from the weeklies and in the free BP? Say, double what we are currently getting?”
“Can we get more frequent maps and heroes? Maybe a new hero and map each season instead of alternating ones?”
The silver lining is read between the lines and the devs are saying they are going to stop worrying about PVE and worry about the “core (pvp) game” and the “core (pvp) audience” from now on probably putting in more heroes and maps.
They are trying to listen to feedback, but the community shoots itself in the foot never delievering a coherent and consistent message on specifically what changes they want instead of “game is trash!” over and over.
Meh…they don’t actually care…they’ve been getting the complaints all year long since release of OW2….there isn’t anything really new on there (besides the PVE which they’re already moving away from)
Thus far all those complaints have resulted in nothing because they’re not interested in actually making the game good anymore…they just want to milk everybody for what they can….that’s been the MO for this game since the beginning and they’ve shown ZERO interest in changing that dynamic
To be honest IMHO OW1 did a better job at incentivizing players to keep playing simply because cosmetics were less monetized and getting repeated cosmetics from the lootboxes granted you gold, to help you buy your desired cosmetics in the future.
The monetization itself isn’t a direct incentive to play + after completing the battlepass there’s no use/savings from your playtime for the next battlepass.
Oh PLEASE.
The community has given feedback for the longest time. But after being ignored for years, people will start putting little to no effort into feedback
Blizzard are listening to the communities feedback but are not doing a lot if anything about the major problems, one being the monetization. Sure the post bring up that one of the popular comments/opinions which is that major parts of the PVE that we waited 4 years for were canceled. Ok sure maybe that’s a failure that perhaps can’t be done much about right now.
However this doesn’t excuse the horrible monetization choices since OW2 launch that instantly without any effort could be improved up on.
Here’s a list of some of some of the questionable monetization choices Blizzard has made since OW2.
Discounted bundles: In season 1 bundles were discounted even though they never have been available before and that you can’t even buy the items individually. Later Blizzard changed this since these monetization practices are illegal in some countries.
All purchase options not showing in shop: While the option to buy individual items in the game were soon added to the game after people questioned the legality of the discounted bundles mentioned, these options are intentionally hidden in the shop and you have to go to the hero gallery to show the option to buy individual OW2 items. Also if you want to use “credits” the option doesn’t either show in the shop.
Vaulted OW1 loot box skins: In OW2 season 2, 21 of some of the fan favorite “loot box” skins were vaulted saying “currently unavailable” in the description of them. Now these skins are showing 1 after 1 as Amazon Prime and PS+ exclusive FOMOs that previously always were available.
Story missions walled behind $15 bundle: The story missions are walled in a $15 bundle that includes PVP stuff that can’t be used in the PVE If you only want the story missions, there’s no other way of getting them than through the bundle.
It isnt that hard to find coherent complaints. They have absolutely seen the actual complaints, but its better for PR for them to pretend the negative reviews are all because they couldnt deliver on the PvE.
The truth is they dont care. Theyve proven they print money off of this game regardless of how satisfied the community is. They are just going to continue with the way things have been going because it works.
This is the only response you’re going to get out of this dude, which is fine because it highlights the purpose of the original post. Also it’s contradictory what they are saying when it was the review bombing that grabbed their attention in the first place not kind words with flowers.
actually I think overwatch 2 is doing very well about it. I really like that we’re back to having a very specific hero release pace, and I wish there was the same kind of excitement for the maps as well, maybe even in the seasons that alternate with those of the heroes.
for the rest I almost entirely agree with what you said, but I would also add a very particular attention to the lore timeline. So far overwatch 2 has had some silent retcons, and I really wish they would go back to defining the status of the heroes’ events much better, such as their ages or a much less approximate chronological order.
I despise that it’s being labelled as review bombing, tbh. If there is anything to gleam from it or it isn’t an organised case, (which most certainly hasn’t happened) it isn’t a review bomb.
The update read as a ‘feel sorry for me’ type comment, and then the one take away they had was the least important issue from all of the feedback, which they have been getting ever since the first beta over a year ago. Wild.
Spare your pathetic indignation. For the past few days you keep squabbling on how unfair people’s disdain for the game is and when they simply tell you that these game developers ain’t hot $#!1 anymore, you immediately plug your ears and tell them to kick rocks.
No matter how often you try to fakeout this criticism by telling them to leave ‘for their own good’, all you’re really doing is continuing to fuel the rot at this game’s core issues and remain complacent in the management this game has been suffering from, by dismissing the well deserved disdain the game has earned from former players like ourselves, and plenty that i guarantee moved on from Battlenet to Steam.
People like you are the real players that ruin it for others. Good for you for enjoying the game, I am happy you do, but to tell others that want it to be as earnest and good as it once was to go piss off, that behavior is pathetic. You are the problem with the community.
You’re basically implying that the devs are too dumb to pick out the reviews that matter over… ascii art.
The fact of the matter is, they know exactly where all the anger is coming from but they’ve taken the ostrich-burying-its-heading-the-sand approach and are pretending it’s JUST the PvE.
Yeah review bombing may have been a bad wording for that, but I can agree that it’s a ton of people unhappy about the product and where it is going.
Pretty much. I’m curious to see where this will all lead to, but I doubt they’d do anything meaningful. The game is fun. And the original brought me and my family closer together and has brought me and is a great couple activity with my girl. I can imagine this game means a lot of things to so many people so it’s sad to see this company blow it. The following was there, they didn’t need predatory tactics.
And I’ve seen the end results of those addicted to these products. People who have mental health issues, vulnerable clueless kids or trying to break free of other addictions turn to gaming only to be exploited. Previous job was customer service for a software company. The addicts were depressing and soul sucking to deal with
The fallacy you haters have is that there’s a scenario where all of us can enjoy this game. They can add a player on that 5v5 open queue mode so people who prefer 5v5 can play 5v5 and people who prefer 6v6 can play 6v6.
Instead it’s some crazy doomer pilled attitude like they aren’t ever going to listen.
Ok, then the only reason to keep seething is to convince other people to stop playing to watch the game crash and burn.
Some of us still enjoy this game, in fact, we think the changes like 5v5 and the new maps made the game better and we dont care about playing barbie doll dress up with our character.
Isn’t it pretty selfish to want to crash the party and “kill” the game just for a tiny bit of glee of watching support end and the servers get shut down?
It’s weaksauce. Just let it go if you arent happy and dont think anything is gonna change.
