Constant Flaming of Supports

I want to play support. I really do. I love supporting teammates and enabling plays, but at least 40% of matches, me and my other support get blamed and flamed with the fires of hell all match long. I have yet to be flamed as a dps, and only one time on tank, this is honestly just completely unreal, sometimes I’ll have way better stats than enemy supports. nope. doesn’t matter. blame the healer.

Past 5 matches in a row i’ve gotten hit with some variant of “do everyone a favor and never play (insert literally any of the healers i play here) again”, from the dps who did nothing about flanking dps that i kept calling out. i insta die even when hugging my teams back, scream about genji on me, and then get flamed during it all. terrible game experience. i’ll just go back to dps and contribute to the mild support shortage and have fun

Leave chat and voice chat while you are at it.

Let the DPS eat cake. Eventually they will be begging for you to queue so they can get a game in and not need 30 mins.

“Look at the scoreboard. I have more healing than both of the enemy supports combined. Healing isn’t the issue my guy.”

Well Genji and Sombra are getting nerfed probably this upcoming Tuesday, so there’s that.
By chance were you using the new Ping feature on the Flankers?

This is what overwatch used to feel like. Once more players leave the game over time, there will probably be less jerks and you’ll have more fun. A lot of players came back to overwatch with the release of overwatch 2 and with it came a lot of jerks too. It’s unfortunate but what can anyone do but report and avoid? Towards the end of Overwatch 1, most games I played in had players that were nice and just there for a good time. It’ll become that way eventually again someday.

Ping system is a hit or miss at low elos, the majority of games people completely ignore them. The same when you spam i need help as a support. :joy:

“What are you healers doing? I need a heal!!”

Well…the fact that you didn’t even know we were both dead and respawning is probably a bigger source of a lack of progress than the Prima Donna not getting healed.

My team says “healer diff”, implying I’m not carrying my weight. I say “cry” and go on with my day.

Every game is Team Diff.

I have to say… I played comp quite a few times by now (support G1 but played together with dps P4, open queue P3 & mostly solo; started at S5) and I didn’t get flamed a single time. I joined VC everytime too, but only starting at mid/high gold they actually talked/listened. I even got praises from my team. I actually had a better time than in OW1, lol.
Also I never saw one of my supports get flamed when playing as dps (S3, those games are actually way harder than those mid elo games lol).

Of course I got a few matches in every rank where people completely ignored my pings and call outs and let me die. But I got that as dps as well.
Also there are just games with lots of stupid feeding and running in on their own.
Either a support, dps or the tank not fit of their role or just super bad luck (eg had games where I spawned at older points and died all over again).

The only times I really were mad about my supports (I didn’t flame them tho, I tried to solve the problem since I normally play as support so I get their problems) were when they rigorous ignored every cry for help.
Today I had a Moira running in on her own, dps’ing instead of just a little bit more heal and dying really fast (she had a few thousand more damage than healing but only half of the damage the dps and tank did & the most deaths).
But those are max 5% of my games.

And quickplay is a whole other world. Noone needs to be toxic there as there are some hella funky comps played and a lot of trolling happening.

Also, as far as I know with playing with friends: They tend to say the magic words “I never got healed!” too. But as a matter of fact they just died so fast noone could’ve helped them or they were so out of position I wouldn’t sacrifice myself. And I will tell them.
I got used to their playstyle so they are the most comfortable with my healing since I know how they will behave.

What else can I say? Just ignore b#llsh*t, tell them the problems when they occure, don’t join VC, report them, play with friends. Just do your own thing (as far as that is possible playing as support).

“HEAL ME. NO SUPPORTS BRO WHY ARENT I GETTING HEALED”

meanwhile running back from spawn and physically is not there

if you want a laugh check out loltyler1 crying about not getting healed. hilarious

on the one hand, I have had a couple of games on support where we’ve had someone yelling about no healing when both of us were dead. on the other hand, I’ve just had 3 tank games in a row where I’d win the tank duel, only to be finished by the DPS, and see moira and bap happily DPSing away.

DPS is the easiest role to play, and it’s usually DPS players flaming people like this. Just make fun of them for picking the easiest role in the game. They’re welcome to queue as support if they think they can do better.

gee who wouldve foretold that the scoreboard would actually be a worse system then their medal system…

kinda crazy, i wished there were people making posts about this very thing

That just happened to me last night. Orisa tank kept complaining about our teams healers, even though our healers had double the enemy teams heals.

Funnily enough, the Orisa was terrible, they kept using both of their mitigation abilities at the SAME TIME.

I kind of don’t believe the OP (unless they are in fact awful at support). When I play support, I get the occasional raging teammate because that is just the nature of being a support player, but it’s quite rare and never two games in a row.

being on fire is the only flame that matters

Turn voice and text chat off. I think you enjoy being flamed otherwise you would have turned them off already.

Comms in this game are 95% useless and just make you play worse. Stupid to leave them on.
