Constant disconnects no matter what I do

Every time I play, I either get into a game and never get past the loading screen only to be kicked for inactivity or my game just disconnects from the game server. It’s not my internet as it happens at home, at my parents’ house and when hotspotting on my phone. It also happens on my laptop as well as my desktop. I’ve tried while connected to a VPN for better routing as well as without it. It’s only Overwatch that kicks me from the servers and now I’m getting penalties for it. I got kicked a second before we won the game. My computer and every other device is still connected. Discord is still running, I’m not receiving any crazy packet loss, my internet is at its max speed and the only other devices connected are my phone and google home. Fix your servers and I’m not doing the DxDiag, MTR, etc because all it does is a trace route and packet loss check which I’ve already done and found nothing out of the ordinary. I’m not the only one with this issue and the fact that it happens on multiple devices and multiple connections indicates that your servers are the issue. Fix them. I regret picking this up again. Just started enjoying it after months of not playing only to not be able to play.

Hi, I’m a volunteer. If you don’t want to perform any troubleshooting, I’m confused as to why you posted here. The tech support forum is a community-based troubleshooting area, not a complaint collection center. A DxDiag is for gathering info on your computer and hardware, as well as any apps causing conflicts. The WinMTR and PingPlotter are for the connection. Most of the time, these tests require experience to read correctly. The community can’t offer you advice with zero data to review.

Fine. Send me links to what I need. I hate installing unnecessary programs or sharing my network information. I can tell you now that I ran a ping test for a few minutes and there were no spikes or packet loss, my PC is connected via ethernet, I’m hitting my max speed of 100mbps down and 20mbps up. It’s going through my ISP’s routing but I have a VPN that routes traffic more directly and I had issues with both of them. I thought I only had this issue on my laptop at my parents’ place a few weeks ago and it was their internet but nope, still having it at home on my desktop and laptop as well as tethered to my phone which has 5G and is faster than my ISPs internet.

All the instructions are pinned in the forum:

I didn’t experience a dropout during the ping plotter and had to go back to work so I couldn’t keep the game open for the WinMTR but here are the results. The ping spikes I saw in the WinMTR aren’t enough to get me kicked from servers otherwise I wouldn’t be able to play on US servers with my American friends. My in game latency at the top left hasn’t been spiking in game or when I’ve randomly been disconnected has always been around 28-30ms. Usually when ping spikes have been the cause, the latency figure will rise to 500+ out of nowhere, everything will start teleporting and then I’ll be kicked. Meanwhile what’s happening here is I’m getting kicked without warning, no plug icon like when my internet drops out, no people walking on the spot or in one direction for at least 10 seconds before the lost connection screen when my internet drops out, I’ll be playing normally then suddenly kicked to a screen that says “lost connection to game server” with zero warning and still be connected on discord which also isn’t having any issues which is why I don’t think it’s an issue on my end. I’ve done as much troubleshooting and fixing with my modem as possible, spoken to my ISP, checked for outages and released and renewed my IP as well as flushed the DNS to see if that fixes anything.

DxDiag

If this first line is your home equipment, it’s performing very poorly in this test. You should have a best of 0ms, average of 0–1ms, and same for worst/last. The same issue is popping up in the PingPlotter.

From the DxDiag:

Event Name: LiveKernelEvent
Response: Not available
Cab Id: 0

Problem signature:
P1: 117

Event Name: APPCRASH
Response: Not available
Cab Id: 0

Problem signature:
P1: AUDIODG.EXE

So we have a GPU timeout (stops taking Windows commands) and an audio driver crash. The latter might be caused by the GPU timeout, but the audio crash can cause disconnections every time it happens.

My mistake, I forgot to turn off my VPN. This is the WinMTR without the VPN and instead directly from my home equipment.

WinMTR v0.92 GPL V2 by Appnor MSP - Fully Managed Hosting & Cloud Provider

Regarding the GPU I did just update my drivers yesterday (clean install) and had to change some settings in the NVIDIA control panel so I’ll see what I can do there. I haven’t noticed anything with any visuals so I assume that means it’s not long enough to see anything but enough to mess with OW. The audio, one of my friends said I sounded a bit off for a few seconds so maybe. Guess I’ll much around there unless you find something in this WinMTR (I did notice packet loss here which wasn’t present when I had the VPN, if I ping google servers I didn’t have any packet loss so I’m trying an MTR on them now to see if it’s something on my end)

You can ignore the packet loss here because later nodes in the test are showing more packets received than are being recorded as sent (this happens on some ISPs that block these tests). You might try a PingPlotter with UDP packets instead of TCP, but that requires the Pro version (there is a free trial, but you probably don’t need to do this step).

You can also use the netgraph in game to see what’s happening (ctrl+shift+N to toggle on/off). Orange blocks are connection issues, and white blocks are hardware performance issues.

I’m rolling back my GPU drivers to before October (specifically 537.34) as I didn’t have any issues until the October drivers and on two different devices as well immediately after updating. I’ll mark this as the solution if it solves the issue.
