Console UI/menus

So we’ve all seen the new menus, yes I admit it looks nice and everything but why is it so hard to navigate? Especially as a console player.

I can’t find half the things I’m looking for or they’ve moved somewhere else. The menu used to be so much simpler I don’t want to scroll the screens at the top.

I’ve found they changed what some buttons do as well to make it more confusing than it already is. Take the hero gallery for example, L1/R1 used to scroll through skins, emotes, sprays etc. (changed to L2/R2) Now it takes me to a different screen.

Game history, highlights and game reports (for some reason moved to career profile?) Pressing the options button on a highlight gave you the choice to save or delete the highlight (now changed to R3?) Options button now brings up menu screen taking you all the way back to the beginning. As of writing this I’ve only just found the challenges screen as well. Why is Play set to triangle.

I get they wanted to update it but if it’s not broke, don’t fix it

Couldn’t agree more. It’s so hard to navigate, even with the on-screen “help”. Do I want to Continue or Exit? I dunno, I just want to start another game! Took me ages to find Replays. Chat is almost impossible to get to, it only lets you access it at certain time. And if you want to view the scoreboard after the game, good luck with that.

Not been able to type is annoying, the second Victory/Defeat appears on screen say goodbye to chat. We don’t even get to type gg anymore now

Yeah, I don’t like that either. You can’t use voice lines either, as I’d often just use that to say “Thanks!” if we won.

I like the new menus though, cos when you get used to them, I think it’s better overall. The few gripes I have are issues that were in the old UI too, such as when you bring up the endorsement screen post-match, there’s no quick option to see the scoreboard. You have to go digging in the history section to see it.

I’m still learning the new UI even now. There is one thing I miss from the old OW1 menus, almost everything was on the main screen, not having to go through all the menus to find things.

Heroes, History/Highlights, Career Profile etc. all just one click away, not anymore

What I hate is how they don’t make good use of buttons in general on console.

For example, in the highlights section there are 5 options listed at the bottom of the screen (these are the Xbox controls, but it’s the same on PlayStation): -

LB - Chat
A - View highlight
RB - More options
Y - Highlights info
B - Back

However, if you press RB to get “more options”, you get the following: -

View highlight (which was already covered by A)
Delete

So why not just have X as delete on the main highlights screen and get rid of the “More options” thing?

I think Stadium is the worst example on console. For example, if you open the scoreboard, the only option you get is to press RB to interact, which then brings up a bunch of other options, one of which is to switch between the round stats and the overall stats. Again, why not just add more options on the initial scoreboard screen? Why do I have to press RB to see more options?

This change bugged me the most, apart from the many other unnecessary button changes they for navigating the menus.

I’m on PS5, when on the highlights screen we used to press the options button on the controller to bring up a menu with view/save/delete. (The options button now takes you to a different menu). They switched to R3 and then sometimes the save option isn’t even there
