Console Settings We've Needed Since Day 1

Hey everyone, I’m hoping we can get some traction on this and see a change in the attention the console community receives.

These are some settings special for console that i and many others have felt need to already exist in-game.

1: Give us a deadzone customization feature

Deadzones are a massive issue for controller players and make some games downright unplayable. Almost all FPS games in this era ship day 1 with a Deadzone feature for console/controller QOL

2: Seperate sensitivities for characters in ultimates (Specifically Genji)

I know a lot of Genji players struggle to balance the sensitivity between Dragonblade and the Midfight, adding a setting for a different sensitivity setting and smoothing to activate upon blade usage would be an amazing QOL change to console.

3: Aim assist priority settings (this one will take some explaining)

A big issue i see from a lot of newer players or even friends of mine is that while they’re aiming at someone for a precise shot, a hero behind that person or multiple heroes will pull their aim off of their shot and force a miss.
These players don’t want to remove their aim assist but they also don’t want their aim messed up so…
Add 2 features to fix this!

(Aim assist distance window)
(Aim assist hero priority)

Aim assist distance window would be a setting where you could set the minimum and maximum distance you want your aim assist to activate at (or reduce at certain distances (min-max))
This way, widow players for example trying to hit an opposite widow in the midfight won’t have their aim pulled by a monkey jumping in close for example or a mercy using GA in the distance.

Aim assist hero priority would allow you to choose certain heroes to exclude aim assist from. (For example large targets like Roadhog or Reinhardt could be an annoyance when you are trying to hit a smaller hero in the middle of the pack.

(Note: these would not in any way make aim assist stronger or less skillful, only reducing or removing it in annoying less optimal situations based on a player by player preference)

4: Higher Sensitivities than 100

When playing certain heroes, (Tracer, Genji, Rein, Monkey, etc) Players often on console feel held back from their potential from the sensitivity cap. The only way to increase the speed past 100 is to reduce the smoothing which for some players feels very choppy and difficult to control.
There is no downside to increasing the cap as it just further increases a controller player’s room to grow or show their ability.

5: A New Aim Style

Currently in-game we have Dual-Zone, Linear, and Exponential. To long time FPS players, especially anyone who comes from the Call of Duty audience, the aiming in Overwatch feels off in some way, either too sluggish or somewhat the inability to do smooth circular motions.
With Activision and Blizzard being a joint company, i feel they should port in Call of Duty’s Default aim system as an option for players. Most people feel that it is a lot more smooth and responsive.

That’s all i can come up with for now, any suggestions leave them below and blow this up! Maybe we can get some eyes on this and see some change for us console fans yeah?

I’ve been playing OW on console for 4 years now, trust me. Blizzard doesn’t care about us :joy:

Blizz may not but I’m hoping Microsoft decides that’s a bad idea.

Yo these would be phenomenal. Biggest pain is somebody on my own team messing up my aim on console ie: Ana sleep positions, wrong teammates for heal packs on brig’s, glitched jump techs on mercy, and all my shots going everywhere on a hitscan lmao (that’s just bad aim but sometimes…)

Yeah, we’ve needed stuff like this for a long time. Most of these ideas came from people I’ve played with and seeing their struggles and my mind coming to solutions. When you’ve been around FPS on console for over 14 years you learn what is needed and this game’s optimization for controller feels neglected.

Tbf their everything is neglected atm. lets hope Xbox and game pass pushes them ahead of the curve.

Well, since OW2 is the next Acti-Blizz game to release, Microsoft need to make actions to change the Overwatch production and content issues fast to see a quick change in faith and a profit. As well as they probably want Overwatch to do well on console for Xbox so I’m hoping they force proper optimizations.
This is coming from a PS4 player so…

The deadzone thing omg… I play on PC now but have been seriously thinking about going back to console and this has always been one of my biggest gripes. All these changes would be awesome.

I’d like to add that I’d also like a way to have different sensitivities for heroes with more than one weapon, specifically Mercy. I need her staff high sens but then it’s too high when I swap to her pistol. If I could have seperate sens for both, that would be awesome.

These are all really good ideas, and I don’t see why they couldn’t add them.

It was actually overwatch that pioneered more in-depth console sensitivity settings. Before overwatch all main stream console games just had sensitivity 1-10 and so on lol.

Which is sad bc those games all feel better than Overwatch

I agree on most fronts. I come from call of duty as well. And find the linear ramp 7-7 works best for me. But i feel like it also has a much higher turning speed a max stick deflection. If we could have that and also the aim assist window and strength from cod which In my opinion is perfectly done. Hence its huge following. We would all be winning
