This new button that came along with rework sym is stupid.
It has ruined my whole set-up on PS4.
First we can’t use touch pad swipes which seems blizzard will never implement.
Just make interact bound to reload. Just like we use reload for interacting with telescope in horizon and how we change character with same button.
Characters such as mercy and torb who have 2 weapons Layout on controller is insane. I have no place for interact. had to remove radial dial in order to make space for this stupid interact button.
Fix this ASAP blizzard please.
Exactly!! Literally every single button I have is being used and I have to ruin my layout for this. And I bet people wont even be playing sym much once all the hype dies down.
Well we are console players.
Blizzard has proved time and again that they don’t care about us.
So for me on PS4 its L3, pushing in the left stick. Do you have this bound to something else. The L3 is any easy interact button and fast.
But its clearly marked as L3, why is that so hard?
I feel like it would be simpler if interact was either tied to jump or reload.
I had to give up my understood button for this, and I can’t even use push to talk or capture highlights or any other cool feature because every button is in use.
Because not every one plays tracer that has few abilities to map. Try playing lucio, mercy , torb and you will understand the issue.
Plus there are other important buttons like “attack point” that needs to be bound as well.
I have custom controls set for mercy and she’s my most played hero in comp. I have no issue with this, just click down on your left control stick?
It could be a automatic portal just like the old sym
But it could not teleport anymore if you already teleported
You just have to move back and forth and you teleported again
So let me understand this better. One I hardly play tracer, I have played since Beta and have hours on each character. Check my profile its open :).
I play all of those and still have to ask what are you binding that’s different for those characters.
Also you can separately bind each character, so its not like you could not have each hero have unique bindings.
Going back to Sym, what is the issue with leaving the binding on L3? Do you have that set to a voice command?
So you need to have a button just for the words “attack point”? Can’t you just say that in comms? just asking out of curiosity, if you don’t use chat that’s all you.
Even more curios is what special bindings are you using for lucio, torb and mercy? asking for my own info, maybe I do the same once I figure out why.
Thanks for replying
DP
yeah, that’s what I don’t understand yet. I kept reading about this yesterday, then got home and played and had no issue with it. But maybe we don’t have the same bindings…??
So you have no buttons bound to attack/heal or group up? I am usually shot calling and not every one uses voice and those buttons are as essential.
Mercy: r2 primary
R1: secondary
L2: jump/float
L1: angel
L3: change weapon
R3: melee
Tri: ult
Square reload
Circle: crouch
X: Rez
Directions: attack/come to me for heal / ult status/ dial
Where do I place interact now?
Why is this a debate if some players are having issues?
I had to mess with my controls a bit to get all her abilities down comfortably. I don’t have attack/defend bound to anything, usually I just use group up. What is bound to the click on your left stick? With heroes like Mercy you might have to sacrifice some communications to use interact. Try just using coms or group up on the wheel.
Blizzard needs to allow double-binding in order for this to work.
that’s how it was made but alot of symm players and non symm players were very concerned about trolling you could teleport your teammates into the enemy’s team with out consent just by standing behind them easily throwing entire team fights.
Blakhand, first we just wanted to better understand your issue and seeing your thought process and what the bindings were helps us out.
Nope I use the radial menu for group up and heal, I never mapped those to buttons, so they solves my issue right there, I also would not put L3 as my change weapon as it gets hit a lot and I would switch by accident.
Also I believe most of us don’t use our d pad for as much communication as you do. I have a mic, its a group game and its essential to me to actually talk and make friends. Plus radial menu is fast for me now, so I might suggest that as an alternative then mapping buttons for communication. I think I have more bound buttons for emotes and voice lines then I do for group up and heal me lol.
But thanks for explaining this to us, I hope we can find a way to fix this issue for you.
Also just a thought, but you could just bind Sym differently and keep the L3 for her separate so you can keep the rest of your hero bindings the same, as you have gotten use to them by now.
Maybe look at crouch as an alt button as well, its not COD or CS, so we don’t dolphin or belly attack. Again just a suggestion to help you out.
I don’t push hard on left stick. I prefer buttons on my thumbs that allows fast reaction. Rather than moving my thumb across to press another button.
As for voice comp yes I am always in team chat. But how many do you find using it on PS4? If they are they are in group chat or in party chat. So no being on voice chat does not help esp on console as no one is ever on it.
Assuming a mostly-default layout, and if you want consistency across heroes, there are essential 4 decent buttons for 5 functions. X/Square, B/Circle, L3 and R3, for Reload, Melee, Crouch, Next weapon, and Interact.
None of them work well on the D-pad, because D-pad functions require you to stop moving. That’s basically the issue.
But, they don’t actually need bindings for Interact or Next Weapon (with slight Mercy and Torb modifications).
And they could add the ability to use button chords, so players could overload the D-pad with comms (eg, D-Left is “Need Healing”, Circle + D-Left is “Acknowledge”).
Or, they could have two options for comms systems. The current wheel and an input code system. The latter working as such: one button open comms, which shows a 4 direction “wheel” that you then click through using directions on the D-pad to navigate nested comms. For example, if the first level is D-Up for Stategy and D-Down for Status, you get something like:
- D-Up|D-Up for “Group Up”
- D-Up|D-Left for “Attack Point”
- D-Down|D-Up for “Need Healing”
- D-Down|D-Left for “Ultimate Status”
It sounds complicated, but it actually works really well on controllers after a brief period of memorizing the input sequences. It’s a clunky system for keyboard and mouse though, so it should be an option.
Anyway, long post short, they could improve the controller support pretty easily with some minor changes. This business with Interact is a step in the wrong direction though.
Most of the time and now with LFG Blakhand I think you might be able to free up some bindings that you are using for communication as you can make groups with mic only.
Did you see how fast and how many LFG groups were being made and filled… I was stunned and happy. Its a game changer for us on console to get groups, with mics and teamwork.
I just want to help you out BlakHand, I want players to be able to have fun playing.
So maybe reevaluate your bindings, maybe drop a binding or move it to the dpad in place of a comm line and go back to L3. Again this maybe just a unique binding for Sym and her only.
Man I hope this helps, hope you have great time with Sym and get many kills.
I played her last night and wrecked players. I would throw turrets in odd places and have blast balls exploding all over the place, some how got a 5 man kill and POTG with blast balls and turrets… She is amazing and her TP is fun.
Good luck buddy.
