Me and my friends love shooting the breeze and playing comp, unfortunately one often precludes the other. We can’t really shoot the breeze and NOT be in team chat because that’s rude to our teamates and we want to be able to communicate with them when needed…but we don’t want to be in team chat and not be able to speak freely.
So is there some mystical way to like, talk to my friends but also hear team chat and be able to press a button to TALK to my team on ps4. Essentially can I go between two chat rooms, one including the entire team and one including just my friends.

There is no way for you to be in a party && Team chat at the same time.

You can set it up on PS4 so that your mic automatically goes to team chat while in game, but between matches you use the PS chat party.
So you can chat in game and if you want to talk about something more personal you can wait till the between games
The settings are simple for ps party chat, just set it to prioritize in game chat. but you do need to do some other settings in overwatch which I can’t really remember exactly. You want it so you join team chat automatically.
There is no way to both be in Team Voice and in a party chat at the same time. Either prioritize game chat in parties and only talk “freely” in between matches, or just talk as you wish during.
If things were bad and no one was talking, or were too toxic, my duo buddy and I would retreat back to party chat to save ourselves drama.
Now correct me if I’m wrong but people on PC circumvent this problem with being in discord, which isn’t as easy for console players?
