Connection issues

Hello,

for a few weeks now, I have lots of connection (?) issues. Only in OW as far as I can tell.

I often have the 2 famous orange icons (connection problem and packet loss) and what annoys me the most: sometimes (well a little frequently…) the sound or even visual cues for hitting or eliminating a target are completely gone.
This is more bothersome with heroes who kill with one shot (Hanzo for example). So I do not get the red cross-hit indication, neither the red elimination skull or any sound effects.
So often the enemy just drops dead in front me to my own surprise because I can’t tell if it was me or not (well, I still have the killfeed ofc…).

And today it was really bad. After loading to Hollywood in QP, I got a “black loading screen” (with the Overwatch logo and the map-specific soundtrack playing again) before the game started. After I left the spawn door, it happened again (black loading screen and the “welcome…” line + the OST for the 3rd time…).
I was not happy .

Sadly, I could not catch this moment using the SHIFT + CTRL + N command.

However, I have some screenshots here about the practice range:

A super broad orange peak:

And here I managed to get a screenshot on one of those “silent kills” I mentioned (no hit indication):

I hope these screenshots help… I am really not into this stuff :pensive:

I am hella confused.

Edit: hm… I just noticed its CDG1 now instead of the AMS1 which I had for years… is it possible that this is the issue?

First lets work on any potential issues that may be going on in your home network that may result in these disconnections:

Of course there may be reasons outside of your home network and you may need to run a WinMTR test to get a better idea of where your latency is spiking on the connection route between you and the game server.

Many low-population servers have switched from Amazon Web Services to Google Web Services as the hosted datacenter for Overwatch Servers.

I feel embarassed… :flushed: :see_no_evil:

I tried to remember since when I have these issues and it was when I opened my computer.
The ethernet cable was a very very tiny bit not fully plugged in…
Now everything works absolutely fine as it used to be… omg that’s so dumb…

edit: Thank you for your help though. When I read the first way to solve the problem it made me thinking…
edit2 : grammar.

Okay, it was most likely just a lucky day/time that the lags were gone and it was independent of the cable.
Some hours ago, I lagged a lot as descriped in the OP.

Now I followed the steps which are suggested in the first link and right now I do not have any issues.

It’s late-night now and I wonder if it’s time-dependent or not because I usually play OW at the late afternoon. And when I answered you, it was at night, too.

If I have any problems “tomorrow” (today), I will follow the steps of the second link.

I just wanted to give an up-date. Thank you again for your efforts.

I have the sames issues. I asked in chat while playing a ranked game and like 4 people said they have the same issues.

It isnt always the same. I get those Paketlost games from like 6-12 pm.
My ping is also not good. Its around 55-60 ms and im from germany… germany to the netherlands isnt far.

Years ago, my ping was like 25-30 ms… now its almost the double.

I tried everything… New ethernet cable… others DNS… opening ports… i even called my provider… Nothing worked our for me.

I also only get that packetlost in OW. Every other Server works fine
