Connection issue while internet works fine

Hi forum,
I’ve seen this issue posted a couple times here but I haven’t seen a real response to the issue, so here we are:

In the last 2 days, OW has disconnected me during games, and on the main screen (requiring login details).
Sometimes I can’t start the game at all, as it immediately claims it can’t connect to the server, sometimes I manage to finish a game or 2 before it shows me a connection error.

I don’t have any other network issues- internet works fine, and other games play without lagging.

I’ve seen the suggestion to run WinMTR, so here are the logs, please help:

WinMTR v0.92 GPL V2 by Appnor MSP - Fully Managed Hosting & Cloud Provider

While there isn’t packet loss in this test (follow packets sent and received, not the loss column), there are some latency spikes within your ISP’s network.

You can see them here:

All of these nodes are in Telia’s network, and would be their responsibility to correct/repair. Have you spoken to them about the connection issue?

Hello,
I’m experiencing the same issue for the past few days. While internet connection is ON, a disconnections occur to battle.net servers ONLY.

DeadlyKitten, Who is your ISP? By looking at your traceroute, we come from the same region.

Hi Nicole- thank you for the reply!
I’ll try talking to my ISP though it’s a bit odd that only Blizzard is affected by this…
When I speak to them what should I say to describe the issue?

@niro
My ISP is Hotnet- same for you?

Other games:

  • are probably hosted somewhere else and use a different route on your ISP to connect.
  • may buffer information and not require as solid of a connection.

That when you connect to the IP you used for the WinMTR that you’re experiencing packet loss and delays over 100ms before you leave their network.

Guys, I have the same exact issue. HOTnet as well. What’s the plan? :frowning:

i contacted them, they said i need to talk with ym internet company and check fi they are customers of Telia. i tried so much things in the last couple of days to solve it and nothing work. include the full steps in the support section when it says to do flush or updating drivers.

This is so frustrating! We’re totally depend on this clueless ISP (Hotnet) while we can’t even tell when this will be ever solved.

@Blizzard
Can we change server? Maybe to a different region?

I don’t work for blizzard but you can try using a VPN to reach the server since this is an ISP problem. There is no way to switch servers within the Overwatch client. A VPN could also be used to force you to a different server, but your ping will likely be a lot worse than it is on your normal server.

you mean, if we want to play overwatch without connection lost we need to buy a vpn to play overwatch? it’s not making any sense.

copying my message from eu boards

For now, for those who cant change isp, i recommend using some free vpn.
ExitLag has 3 free days trial, and NoPing has 7 free days trial.
so thats 10 days, hopefully until then Hot will fix their sh*t.
its not a prefect solution, but it works for now.
(im using Exitlag for now, and get good ping)

I don’t work at Blizzard and I’m trying to offer you a solution to the problem as it stands right now. And just to be realistic: Since other players can get online and there are no reported server outages, and it’s only affecting users on a particular ISP/routing partner in your region, it’s pretty clear the problem is not Blizzard. Since you pay your ISP for service, you should be demanding that they fix the issue. Blizzard has no control over how your ISP operates. I’m not trying to be harsh but the wrong company is taking the blame here.

ok, thank you! i will just move to new ISP and see how it’s working, i will update here if it works. have a great day.

I just got banned due to yet another disconnection… Is anyone from @Blizzard can please handle those loss of SR’s and bans? I haven’t done anything malicious in here.

They don’t restore SR for any reason – your fault or theirs. You can find the information about their stance here: Overwatch Technical Issues, SR Loss, and Leaver Penalties
