Or that cool enough, lets be real here
By game standards⦠Winston. He usually puts Genji in a corner.
Boot, hereās how i see it.
Winston is a huge target, and was of course expecting to probably sacrifice himself.
Genjiās obviously had upgrades, since the metal in his swords seems to be capable of cutting through most other metals and cooling very very quickly.
Which btw leads me to believe itās a few 100.000 fold metal mix, which is kinda awesome⦠probably some kinda metal we donāt have right now in the real world.
And by fold, i mean when swords are made the metal is of course folded to become stronger.
Genjiās swords in the new trailer are probably something incredible compared to what he used to be carrying⦠(Especially when he was young) thatās my headcanon anyways.
That, and itās easier to attack something that isnāt focusing you.
Deflecting hot plasma/whatever those projectiles were, is easier than fighting a rocket powered fist the size of an old TV set.
Winston is better suited for fighting a ābrute forceā enemy like Doom, but Genji excels with cutting/metal manipulation and deflection.
(I love the sciences behind metals⦠iām a nerd.)
Even in the real world, a well crafted Katana could easily slice through most not-so-well made, perhaps mass produced diecast/punch cut out metal objects, like mass produced robots. Given, with metals we have you would ruin or break a sword after a few swings, but thatās just due to density/mass⦠youād still break whatever it is youāre cutting though.
Did i just bring logic into Overwatch?
Yes.
Sue me.
I think itās because he hasnāt refined tha technology yet in the storyline, the last one was a deffective prototype that he used to grenade Reaper with in the Recall cinematic.
Kind of makes sense.
If it was realistic to how it would transpire in the game itād go like this.
Genji: Winston you didnāt use your bubble? ![]()
Winston: I felt like taking on the damage directly. ![]()
Genji: OMG our Winston is feeding. ![]()
Mei: Report him for throwing. ![]()
Genji: Do you even have your ult? ![]()
Brigitte: I have gold healing ![]()
but youād think after those mistake he made it work by now?
so im kinda expecting it in the latest trailer, after all it should be ready if he is going to a mission!
but i get why they didnāt make him use it, its because Brigitte and Rein will introduce that combined barrier thinggy.
This is like discussing power levels in the Marvel Cinematic Universe vs the Comic books, etc.
There is really no relation. Just enjoy what is provided.
So true it hurts.
the trailer would be 10x better if this was an actual thing! all the OW player will relate on a spiritual level!
Have you seen his blade after deflecting those 3 or so shots? That thing was glowing red. Good chance that it wouldāve broken if he had to deflect a couple shots more. Genjiās blade might also not be strong (or long) enough to cut through the giant robotās main hull (in contrast with just a hand).
Well, thatās a semi-logical reasoning Iām giving to it.
This last part made my day.
SAY IT LOUDER

teenagery xD
Everyone has good and bad days. Maybe thereās a cinematic meta? lol
Iām tempted to make a thread about if it was in game accurate. But I just came back from the movies and need sleep
So tomorrow it shall be.
Youād think that that after 3 years of Overwatch people would have worked out that different characters are better suited to different match ups and ācountersā are cyclical.
Itās explained by Winston being level 1 and Genji being level 20.
In game mechanics do not apply in the cinematic universe
Well Genji might have received extensive training from Zenyatta while Overwatch was dormant (I donāt know if that fits in the timeline) while Winston sat around eating peanut butter and repairing Gibraltar. Otherwise, different strengths for different people I guess.
When Genji gets bodied by DF, he was still not 100% in harmony with his cybernetics. 90% sure, but not the natural 100% where you can do things without thinking. He was fighting on the basis of his training and praying that he would keep going
Then, during recall time, he easily does a number on Hanzo, who is barely able to keep up, despite being one of the strongest assassins of his kind.
Heās learnt to live with his body, trust it completely and push its limits, and when the recall comes, heās firing on all cylinders, completely in control, and using his weapons to the best of his capabilities.
my 2 cents
Cyclical match-ups are not exclusively in game mechanics, nor are the exclusive to Overwatch. Itās a pretty simple concept that applies to real life too. I just expected 3 years of Overwatch to explain it to people in a more coherent manner than simply saying ārock paper scissorsā.
So, although we donāt have 1 complete cycle from the given scenarios, Iām just saying that it is not unreasonable to suggest that Genji > Winston > Doom > Genji.
He deflected 3 large explosive shots and then cut off a robotās hand. Neither of which are at all that surprising or indicative that Genji is stronger than Winston ā omnics are made of paper mache in the cinematics, have you see Rein obliterate omnics into Legos in For Glory?
