Concord the third rival to overwatch

Ehh.

Overwatch is a community with wide gaming histories.

Theres a large portion of players who ised to exclusively play 3rd person games.

Also prob some game devs who think fp is a braindead easy and cheap way to build a shooter.

I personally prefer first person shooters. 3rd person shooting feels cheap and gimmicky. Being able to look over walls before peeking and stuff is always an issue with those games (at least to me).

Its hard for me to respect fps since ive seen behind the curtain.

Its just lazy. You don’t have to animate the player controller properly and some games don’t bother with the model at all.

Honestly this looks so bad and the reception it got from outside this bubble was truly terrible. A live service PvP game, that’s not even F2P? In 3 months the playerbase wont fill a single lobby.

I can understand that. I think that first person feels more natural since your own body isn’t cluttering up the screen.

Yeah, understand my criticisms have nother to do with how it feels to play it. Fps are fun to play. Obviously. Lol.

Looks alright… I’m still most interested in Marvel Rivals so far.

This game looks nice visually, but seems a bit one-dimensional with it’s characters/gameplay (compared to the games it’s intended to compete with, anyway).

I think it’s more like tf2 interms of simplicity than ow or rivals.

I get an apex vibe art wise.

Me personally, i am shocked more ppl don’t play warlander.

But i don’t think any of these games can dethrone ow.

I am going to say this as loving arena shooter fan who thinks that arena shooters are objectively the best kind of shooter ever released:

This game is easily DoA.

It does absolutely nothing new, the artstyle and character writing are bland as hell, and even what they do have looks repetitive as hell.

It’s just quake 3…with extremely poorly designed ‘heroes’.

This bloody kills me, because I know corporations will take this as “lol arena shooters should stay extinct” instead of realizing that every single attempt to revive them have been because they keep trying to remake quake 3 instead of trying to surpass quake 3.

This crap genuinely feels targeted at this point. It’s been going on for over a decade now. God this is so irritating. This is going to suck and every company is going to take it the wrong way AGAIN instead of realizing the genre is only dead because quite literally every single studio handling them has been completely incompetent.

Was only revealed last night during State of Play.

It’s on PS5 and PC at least. That is a massive possible playerbase?

I mean, yeah, but, OW is surprisingly still on Switch…and people surprisingly still play OW on Switch.

Depends if Sony has gotten their act together with requiring PSN account when playing on PC. It’s crippled Helldivers 2, which had tons of players and momentum to be game of the year. Then Sony started up with their you need PSN to play now and pissed off a ton of players. It’s hard capped the game’s potential.

Why is that? OW had 7 years of needing a battle.net account. Didn’t seem to work against it at all?

really, you could have just ended there,

there has been absolute 0 competition to OW for the entire 6+ years it’s been out, no games coming even close to graphics or gameplay let alone both…

(Paladins don’t count)

sadly the majority are disregarding it as an OW clone, and are fed up of the hero shooter genre. Which is beyond stupid, if you don’t like it… maybe just ignore it? Such a weird situation for people to dislike bomb a game they haven’t even touched yet.

as a game artist, I have to disagree. The art of expression can be done just as well in first person if done correctly. On top of that, its in a multiplayer setting, so they’re gonna have to animate the character model regardless for other players perspectives.

Also in singleplayer settings, it makes sense sometimes not render the player model if nobody is going to see it (including the player). I wouldn’t call it lazy, its contextual and completely depends on the project specification.

But if they took the switch support away it would not stop all the people on other platforms from playing. So I don’t really see how it is relevant.

Buckle up, this is a weird one.

It’s because PSN accounts aren’t available in all countries. I think 160 or so at this point. And you can’t use a VPN to create an account without violating Sony’s terms of service and getting account banned. And there’s some countries where you can’t create a PSN account without physically having a PS5.

This became a disaster with Helldivers 2 because they turned off the PSN requirements at launch because it was causing crash issues for everyone (even PS5 players!), so the game got sold via Steam to countries without PSN access. Then months later Sony wanted it turned on, immediately blocking many PC players from the game. Sony partially reversed course after a major backlash.

But it appears Sony still hasn’t figured this mess out, because the PC launch of Ghosts of Tsushima has similar restrictions. And the studio behind Helldivers is still trying to help Sony get out of their own way, but they don’t appear to want to. It’s rather bizarre.

PS5 is half the active playerbase of Playstation, the other remaining is on PS4. Even PS5 alone is big, but here’s the other thing, the moment the game dies out slowly, if the game isn’t competitive and crossplay, that means only PS5 are vs PS5, unlike almost all other shooters on various platforms.

Either you get PC/Console crossplay or some forms of it like Console crossplay, but no PC pool interaction, or whatever. You can’t do that with Concord unless it launches on Switch 2/Xbox Series X/S.

If anything, Concord could be the next LawBreakers.

That’s also not accounting for the Helldivers 2 PSN issues that were massively spread online.
