Comp/OWL ruined this game

That just about describes comp. When I ask someone in QP to switch cause they keep getting heavily countered, I get “go play comp, you tryhard”. Go to comp and there’s the same smurfs, one-tricks, feeders and leavers, only now I have the added benefit no backfill and being punished if I leave the game.

That’s some bad example to use for your argument there. “Feeling good to use it” was just about the only nice thing about it. Even I used the “hide till everyone gets wiped and press Q” strategy.

That’s just the start of it. Comp killed hero stacking, a thing that was called a “core part of OW” by the OW team shorty after launch.

unless your name is Tracer

It’s more of the fact that players got good at playing this game

Comp certainly helped in that regard… But I think it was Pro Play that ruined Overwatch

And yes I don’t play Comp anymore

I don’t think that is an accurate way of looking at it. Yes most games add it at some point but it’s hardly a requirement.

Devs add it because it’s a low hanging fruit after a game is already made. Fortnite was the biggest game in the world long before they added ranked.

Never said it would grow a playerbase. Overwatch was a successful game though and my point is I don’t think it would have been nearly as successful without a ranked mode. It may have sold well but people don’t feel as much drive to continue playing without some sort of progression to work towards, and a ranked mode gives them that.

hots failed cause it got into the moba party way too late, and was overall just inferior to dota/league. Has nothing to do with having a ranked mode. All a ranked mode does is allow people to play with others on their skill level for more enjoyable games, and an incentive to get better and progress. I see no reason to not include this in any online pvp game. I mean just look at the amount of people that complain about smurfs on these forums. Without a ranked system it’s just ffa all skill levels in one game.

You missed it again, ranked is where smurfs are actually bad

In qp it’s not that big of a deal. The MM takes like 20 levels to figure out who smurfs are in qp, it’s not very long

If you get trashed by a 25 it’s because it tries to find quick matches for everyone, including them. No different than losing to someone who is level 1000.

Naah it’s not comp balancing that made them do this. It’s their unwillingness to have their balance devs do actually decent job at what they’re supposed to do which is why instead of just consistent and objective balancing we’ve gotten some of the dumbest patches out there completely destroying heroes and patches that depolarized heroes removing a lot of identity aspects from their kits

Adding balances and needs to the game imo helped with fairness in comp which is an issue with a team almost full of random ques vs an actual que team. Having heros that are broken or op doesn’t make the game fun in comp bc then every game would be the same. Sure it would be really fun to use a broken hero in regular matches but it would remove the majority skill and strategy aspect out of the game all bc of one hero. For example I feel like doom fist is really op but also feel like it takes a good amount of skill to use(i’m a healer main btw). Now i’m not saying nerf an op hero down to earths core but there should be a fair balance amongst heros that keeps things balanced. But doing all the nerfs and balances they do can actually end up being fun in the sense of developing new strats and metas. Overall they should be wary on how they nerf certain heros I have seen some drastic nerfs on heros that was unneeded.

Nonetheless, Happy New Year

Then don’t play competitive? play the other dozen modes that exist lol

Always been planned to be an eSport. Since Beta. I don’t know how many times I have to repeat this for people to notice. If you’ve actually been here since Day 1, you should know that.

I had the exact inverse. Most of my good memories were from queueing up and grinding from Platinum, where I did placements and that’s it, for 10 whole seasons - all the way to Grandmaster. The others were from scrimmages in managing my own Tier 3 eSports team in preparation for Open Division.

I have never liked the casual side of Overwatch, and I think it is casuals that ruin the potential Overwatch has. Though that wouldn’t be the case if Blizzard kept casuals out of Competitive (by removing rewards from the mode wholeheartedly).
That being said, I think we can co-exist.

If I got a penny every time Blizzard destroyed a game by forcing an esports onto it I’d get 2 pennies
Which isn’t a lot but it’s weird that it happened twice.

That’s not the point of the post
Comp was the reason most of balance changes were made, most of which removed some fun elements from the game.

There’s no but there. The game existed to make money. It made a lot of money, but the more they’ve abandoned any pretense of casual play and gone 100% down the route of esport/hard-core competitive, the more players have abandoned the game.

Losing is unfun*.
Can’t remember a single tine with kind (non-toxic) teammates in a game we won which was not fun when looking back at the victory screen.

Esports were the worst thing to happen to wow. Blizz gets more twitch views but the end game sucks for people who wanted an actual rpg now

Hate it revolves around timed dungeon runs now, but they need that timer for esports. thats not an rpg

If it is, then it should be eradicated alongside the entirety of competitive games. People who like competitive games are cancer. They should not be supported.

And yet people who want to constantly play broken heroes with broken abilities, destroying opponents easily and unfairly, making life hell for them and the game boring are not psychos?

I’m sorry you didn’t get your broken ability, but wanting things to be fair doesn’t make you a psycho. It just shows the difference between players who want to play casually, and players who want to play competitively.

acually it was blizz that ruined the game

Losing should honestly not even enter the equation……if the only way to enjoy the game is if there’s a W attached then I would argue you’re playing the wrong game….some of the most fun I’ve had playing OW was in losing efforts

I guarantee that if yall played the beta version of this game with all its jank and ridiculous abilities for a few months, you’d be begging for it all to be reverted. This game is 5 years old. We are no longer all new players to the game and have improved all our individual gameplay significantly as well as our teamwork. I can’t imagine what it would be like playing against a 1000 hp barrier bastion or a d.va with a huge amount of defense matrix with the players as skilled at the game as they are now.

You would have fun to start out sure, but eventually dying to jank or flat out bs is gonna weigh on you and you’ll be wishing to return to the OW we have now.
