Comp/OWL ruined this game

Well, normally if you want to end an abusive relationship you just stop it. There is no other way.

Complaining endlessly until having 3500 messages of complain on the forum just mean that maybe you need to find something more healthy for you to do.

If other game are better, just go and don’t turn back. There is no point passing your life into negativity.

Or maybe that the someone in the toxic relationship is you?

Not saying that to the person that writed the message I answered, unless he feel that it apply to him.

Wouldn’t say most of these changes were do explicitly do to comp, like hog was always stronger in QP were their wasn’t the coordination to call out his flanks.

That and Mercy change was primarily do to how messy game flow got, Like one mercy on either team can quickly turn one fight into a stally mess with no clear advantage coming from either use. Like at best you just reset a fight that was going to happen anyway, worst you just extended overtime on a point that was already having trickling issues.

forcing a game to become an esport in its infancy before letting the community grow and let the game establish itself is a terrible idea. Take note future devs

These designs and balance disasters you’re talking about here didn’t make the game fun for anyone else other than the people who used them.

Hence why they were all rightfully fixed years ago.

Party shooter? Now that’s a new payer - assigned genre to Overwatch that I haven’t heard before!

Overwatch officially is a Competitive hero shooter. If it’s not balanced, then it isn’t Competitive, then it fails at what it tries to do.

I still love it though…

Ironically, at the same time several elitist players have thought that the game catered to the casual populace for years.

Citing characters like Brigitte, Moira, Mercy’s change, Torbjorn, Winston, etc. who call get relatively insane value with much safety built into the kit. Its like, “Hey blizzard, we are tired of being killed by tracer/genji’s all the time in dive. Give us character to stuff that”. Orisa, Brigitte, Moira, and more were born. Torjborn gets buffed.

Its only after the 2/2/2 shift has the game been trending towards develop for high tier with many nerfs to tanks/support overall. Moira used to be balanced around in experimentals and those have been abandoned for a very long time.

“Overwatch didn’t have Competitive at launch and is the reason it went downhill”, this is such a lie, for starters they did try to have a Competitive mode which you can see here

Secondly do any of you actually have a shred of evidence that the game suffered after Competitive was released outside your own personal discontent? You’re casual players, competitive isn’t a game mode you guys are going to enjoy, just like I don’t often enjoy casual modes because I’m a competitive player

Except that OW has likely made wayy more money from having a competitive scene than it otherwise would have, so if anything it suggests the opposite

It is sort of hard to tell on the money front. Competitive people will tend to be playing a bunch. Meaning they unlock items faster for simply playing the game. Those that have less time to play and maybe mroe casual about it might invest into loot boxes actually for an event.

The other side is possibly merchandise. How many competitive people really go in and buy into the blizzard gear? I think just general fans might do that more. Though I could be wrong.

Well I play comp a lot and i’m no god but its been ar least 4 years I ask for my family to buy me OW merchandise

Mainly referring to OWL when I mean about the competitive scene, though it’s hard to tell how much money that has made, also worth noting that Contenders would also make money through ad revenue

That being said you also gotta realise that while Competitive players are a minority, they do make a significant percentage of players so without having the mode in itself you’re likely losing a whole chunk of players who will get bored without it

Competitive games suck by definition, they only please some basement losers who care about a number in exchange for failing to provide what a game is for. Fun

And pressing some keys in a keyboard will never be a “sport”. Sorry Blizz.

For myself, the official blizzard gear store has had almost nothing I ever wanted to get. All the quality stuff is fan made through like etsy. Which means I suppose maybe that’s not actually a good revenue for Blizzard on OW.

Aw! Now we have the bottom of things.

It is a personal grudge again Esport.

Sorry to tell you, but Esport exist and it will survive even with your opinion. As much as I dislike hockey or football, peoples still play them.

On other hand, there is still a lot of Arcade modes and characters that are not viable in high level competition and are noobie friendly if you just want to have fun.

It’s an insult to hockey and football to put them in the same category with a video game. And i don’t even like them. I like OW. At least i did before they butcher it.

They should’ve just balanced separately for QP and comp. comp could’ve gone 222 and had all the changes and QP could’ve just stayed the same.

I agree somehow. Tbh, I think Blizz didn’t thought about competitive/MMR at release, cause there were so many just do the routine heroes, who are very good at balancing the skill unbalancedness between teams, and prevent the match one-sided easily.

But they introduced comp thereafter, and the userbase, the devs and the game itself are diverged significantly imo. The game itself and the heroes are designed for normal casual people, but the userbase wanted to balance the game around their own tiers or master/GM, and the devs balanced the game around OWL. An interesting phenomenon.

This forum needs downvote button.

You should stop playing this game if you aren’t having fun

If competitive never existed there would still be people complaining about balance and balance patches.

In the competitive circles. people playing for fun would see no reason to complain because they know it’s just for fun. They still would mind you but it wouldn’t be taken seriously.

Without a comp mode the game could have ended up the exact same it is today just without a comp mode

Comp mode fostered a completely different community and separating comp from everything else would keep people that want to grind in premades within their own circles and everyone else in qp and arcade.

Comp gave the game more longevity. I definitely wouldn’t have stuck around without a comp mode and I think the community would be way smaller if it never existed. Comp mode is pretty much a requirement for all modern shooters. Name one other shooter that’s came out without one and is successful?

TF2. You know, the game OW was based on? the game we (well I) played for thousands of hours, for you know, fun?
Putting that aside your argument isn’t even good to begin with when the game has sold itself as a fun casual environment and then gave everyone something completely different as soon as comp became the focus, it grew inspite of comp and then comp was the bait and switch. as things are now in the game you wanted everything’s been shrinking and shrinking and every aspect of the game, even the for fun modes is filled with smurfs dunking on anyone with actual new players (or worse smurfs) on their team.

You can say it grew because of comp but that growth came at the cost of a suffocating mold it needed to fill that keeps it from any kind of potential past that.

Blizzard always does this where they have a plan and that plan comes at the cost of the new player experience and they leave before they become invested then their games die.

You are forgetting you are fighting against other players and not Bots (although the difference is sometimes not obvious in their behavior), and a game must feel good for both sides.

I am sure the people getting hooked through walls or insta deleted from fan-flash-fan don´t feel the game to be fun.
