"Complaint" about the Overall Community

First of all, I’d like to say that I might forget to mention some aspects or use personal definitions for words that vary from what people interpret. I try my best to formulate the ideas clearly and understandable. The thread is about, let’s say, “social misconceptions” a lot of people playing Overwatch have.

I have been playing Overwatch a lot over the last years, I’m on level 2596 (not rank). A huge fraction of the Overwatch playerbase seems to use Overwatch as a device to feel superior over other players. They also don’t seem to have interest in constructive social interactions where you learn something together for example. (He didn’t write stars, it was for the forum.) I was the only one on the team with a plat border or higher. I can’t tell if he meant me or not because I have a diamond border but he did apparently. Talking down other people’s playing abilities or even personality happens on a regular basis in Overwatch, sometimes more vicious and concrete, sometimes less concrete flaming.

I personally like the ways Overwatch is designed, like the colorful “fantasy look” and the game mechanics make the game rich of possibilities. Overwatch itself doesn’t feel perfect but that’s for another chapter. I’d just like to have people who are as constructive about learning together as me, possibly not just how Overwatch works. I don’t necessarily expect to queue into a game and have people with “full commitment” but there are certainly ways to increase accessibility for those who want. There was an attempt at implementing “group find”. I tried that but unfortunately, there arose no longer lasting relationships for me or something positive that I got from it. One issue was for example that people were splitting after a defeat instead of communicating and fixing their problems. If we were to really get into what social systems would make Overwatch healthy, we would do that on a sociology and psychology forum and preferably even talk.

I’m also not for banning anyone, just because he writes “gg ez”. I personally don’t do that but there is room for diversity if you want to call it like that. I do however think that people who are caring, careful and give their effort for progress deserve a harmonic place, that being in Overwatch. That means people who communicate carelessness and mischief can’t be in Overwatch unfortunately. I can’t even use Voice Chat in Ranked because there’s always the danger of someone ruining my well-being. You could maybe find people to play with outside of Overwatch, like on Discord, but that’s not in Overwatch.

I don’t have any specific wishes from this thread, I just found it important to mention that the social system could be improved a lot.

Seems the community wanted to do Clans or Guilds like WoW but Devs wanted it to be something sort of global and not restricted to a game. Basically it looks like a discarded project, like Scoreboards, thrown down memory lane because of the same reason:
Since we can’t make a perfect tool, we are just not going to bother at all.

Also toxicity exists in all games, but OW does a particularly poor job on educating players on that and on how the game works, so it “breeds” toxicity:

Why on earth was this flagged?

Masked profanity, I’d imagine.

Yo, i don’t do Ranked much, for some of the reasons you described among a few more. miss the glory fps days where u could practice with people and make friends/form teams. make strats. etc. if you play PC feel free to add me, VertegrezNox#1700 i mostly do QP/arcade as its a lot more fun than having “leavers” on my team. lol anyway we can chill sometime in game, & if not, thats cool too. hope you find an experience more inline with what you’re searchin for. pobody’s nerfect, but there are some cool people out there too.

& yeah its unfortunate, the scrub-dom mindset is a normal phase that most game players experience at one point or another. but it not only is it tolerated, but 70kpeople along with myself heard OWL announcers trash talking “pro players” on livestream for “not playing the meta” essentially promoting it.
Pause

now im not saying Bliz openly promotes the “scrub mindset/phase” but their funding unfortunately has been contributing towards it. (It’s ultimately a community issue tho, as “the world is how we make it”, which goes for game communities too)

Don’t give people the power to just flag a message they don’t like in the least, they won’t engage the question, just retreat from it and try to stifle speech. it’s what they teach in school these days instead of honest intellectual critical thought and arguments.

Because of cancel culture mate.
People dont like it, spam flags on it, it gets deleted etc. There are people flagging other forum posters constantly but because we cant see those false reports, we cant do anything about it.

Cool stuff huh?

Pretty much. I’ve seen posts flagged for just a full set of asterisks with only one actual letter.

Hey, I’ve added you on my US Blizzard friend list and on my Europe friend list. I’m German and live in Germany but I’d have no problem playing on the US server too. Ping is kinda meh but Dafran also has a high ping sometimes and can play with that.

Cool  I haven’t gotten on yet today. (usually I’d play evening/nights or mornings.) run into you later perhaps? i think morning/afternoon your time, sorry i forget.
but likewise i don’t mind playing in Europe server sometime as well. I’m in East Coast US so it probably wouldn’t be too bad heh
hope to see ya in game sometime,
Cheers!

Yes the social system is nonexistent in OW.
But there is no proof it would fix anything.
You can give caviar to pigs, it won’t make them high class.

I think, it’s worth trying. I’m assuming there are players who would like to learn but veer away from Discord because it’s too much to manage or because they don’t like the separation. It wouldn’t necessarily make quite toxic people better but it would make the willing people “more existent” and give them opportunities to share ideas which then helps Overwatch. Communication solves a lot of problems if you have ideas in your head.
