In my opinion people who complain about smurfs just should not play competitive, since they dont have competitive spirit.
Imagine when you are the tall kid in your school basketball team and you keep dunking on your short fellas, but then you try to play with dudes out of town who can actually play the sport and demolish you.
A competitive person, who actually wants to learn and improve, would be glad to play with or against someone out of town who is that good and learn from them.

So in your words “Competitive spirit” is letting people 3-4 ranks higher than you derank and throw games for their own entertainment and letting them to decide what happens in your own rank?
Yeah if I was in high school basketball, I’d totally want NBA players coming in and ruining the games. Especially if the college scouts were watching and down rated me for my poor performance as a high school player. Like, now I can’t even go play college ball, because I did poorly vs. NBA players who disguised themselves as high schoolers.
Not sure what this peanut brain take is.
No, they are not what is keeping anyone stuck anywhere. The problem with smurfing is not about stomping bots either, the problem is when they throw games and/or boost their bot friends who also end up throwing “unintentionally” when they solo at an elo they don’t belong at.
If I chose to play a game without a matchmaker, you would have a case. In the context of Overwatch, the smurfing mindset is that of a despicable bully. If you dont think that is more against the spirit of the game than wanting a fair match, you might benefit from counseling, imo
I think you should be able to shed SR with the click of a button.
However, I’ll play devil’s advocate. These people aren’t complaining because the matches are too hard they are complaining that they are loosing too much SR on a loss because those people should actually be in Plat.
but aside from referees coming to our houses and watching us play, what is Blizzard suppose to do?
you can’t stop someone from sandbagging.
That’s why you should be able to shed SR anytime you want.
The worse you are at this game, the less integrity your matches have. For the simple possibility that there could be more smurf throwers in your game.
Personally though I don’t care. I enjoy Overwatch.
When I was 12-years old, I played in a select baseball league. One team was rolling through every other team with no resistance whatsoever. The team was bigger, stronger, more physically developed and skilled than every other team.
Someone inquired into the team, and the league launched an investigation. It turns out the team was comprised of 16-year olds, which means a team of sophomore and junior in high school kids were playing against middle school kids.
Because we were so competitive, we were all really mad at the league because that team was teaching us so much while rolling though us.
We weren’t a bunch of 12-year old crybabies.
Oh wait, what actually happened follows:
The 16-year old team was kicked out of the league, the coaches were banned for life, and a 12-year old team won the championship.
The players and coaches misrepresented themselves as someone who belonged in a 12-year old tier. They weren’t doing the others a service with their vast knowledge and skill. They were cheating
I mean, it doesn’t even matter because Blizzard isn’t changing it, for sure. At this point, you either accept smurfs or leave.
And yes, I only have one account. There is no point to having more than one at all. If you have to drop rank to play with friends…that should be a hint that your higher rank really isn’t worth that much.
Except OW is not age restricted. If one 12 year old team is vastly superior to another 12 year old team, you don’t cry foul. Nothing is different for OW.
tbh OP is right in terms of, if you complain about smurfs that are actually playing serious & stomp you, you got no right to climb up. Thats my opinion and that’s how i feel about it. Try to look what he’s doing and try to do the same /do it better. Like honestly, how much more help do you want ?
“But you dont learn anything from getting stomped” Yes you do, take a look at why he sh*ts on you and how he does it (if he plays a hero similar to yours) I faced few really good smurfs over the past 2 years and it always helped me understanding my hero better. Even more now with the replay system.
However, imo the “smurfs” that give up / soft throw after 5 minutes because they simply don’t give a damn are a really big issue.
I’m not a smurf, also what does it have to do with being diamond ? I get master or sometimes even GM smurfs all the time in my games but do i complain ? I try and find a way to beat the sh*t out of these smurfs so i can carry myself and if needed my team through the games.
It’s the attitude and i never understood people who are mad about smurfs. I think it was like 1 month ago where i played with some plat friend around 2.8/2.9. However, we faced an enemy booster duo (seemd like it at least) and their doomfist was nowhere even close to anything I’ve ever witnessed at 3.4 rating or even ~3.9/4k in DM. I’d assume it was some 4.2 GM doomfist or something. However, just by watching the killcam and looking at how he took engages and how he predicted mine gave that game more value than an entire evening queing on my main account. And yes, he steamrolled the entire team by himself literally.
Stop trying to find excuses and try to understand how the enemy is outplaying you. Also, there are barely EVER any master/GM smurfs in bronze, heck i wouldn’t even say they are diamond. most of them are probably gold/plat so stop with the exaggeration.
