Competitive Trolling

Blizzard really needs to crack down on trolls in Competitive.
Really sick and tired of having a higher ranked player purposefully drop their SR trust to troll in lower ranks.
I wish more people who were sick of it as well help them create a way to weed out the trollers (like not being able to drop below plat). It makes an unfair, hostile, and toxic environment for players who want to place/climb. Blizzard, do something aboit this. Your game is becoming unenjoyable.

you have to report the player. I don’t think there is any other reasonable way of blizzard figuring out the “trolls”.
report player, and Blizzard will action upon them as they see fit

The thing is, current report system is borderline useless. Smurfing? Not reportable. Deranking? Not reportable. Blizzard has a perfect MMR system so it will figure out their true skill level in next to no time. 20 matches ruined while the MMR system is working? Doesn’t matter. Some guy tilts out of his mind, picks Torbjorn and throws? Hey, he’s shooting towards the enemy and dropping armor packs. He’s not throwing, he’s trying, ok? Mercy tilts switches to Hanzo having 10 hours played in all modes across 5 seasons? Hey, he’s shooting arrows towards the enemy. He’s not throwing. He doesn’t even hit enemies with scatter arrows, but he’s trying so if you report him we’ll ban you for misusing / abusing the report system.

So reporting throwers and trolls works sometimes, yeah. But in fact report system has too many holes to work around and still throw.

They refuse to state what you can report for only what you cant

It’s not exactly the issue. Right now the problem is that you can only report for obvious fat violations.

Player decides to throw, picks Torbjorn and jumps off the map - reportable.
Player decides to throw, picks Hanzo and misses 95% of the shots - not reportable, even though he’s basically doing the same as the player from example 1.

Also, reporting system punishments are mostly automated. It’s so easy to work around that it renders the report system useless.

Yes there are many. I work with big data solutions, machine learning algoritms, async event based messaging etc. stuff and they could (and already may) gather everything that happens in game. Every chat message you write, every Mei wall you place on spawn door, every time you change a hero and suddenly do better/worse, every game result, every stat from all your games, etc. etc. into one big data storage.

Then they could teach machine learning algoritms to find the patterns they want by analysing real time event stream data and batch data analysis to ban your account.

But implementing such systems would require investment from their part which would decrease their net profit and as people seem to be happy with just buying new account every sale and loot boxes during every event… they don’t bother.

It is really a joke that at 2018 you would need to “report” someone.

the report system works. the more you use it the more Blizzard has to work with. if you don’t use it you can’t complain that it doesn’t work

smurfing (deliberate lowering your SR) is reportable. Having a 2nd account is not because, why would it? you are placed where your skill is.

a single report won;t do any harm. if a lot of people report someone, then there’s a reason behind it.

chat messages are weird at best to make out. Some people report someone for saying f*** and d***, others don’t. Depends on what you think is “reportable”

the Mei wall is a VERY very limited case. even if they can record the position and the time of each mei wall, that alone isn’t enough to action on someone.

switching hero and doing worse, now that’s DEFINITELY something they shouldn’t do anything about.

as for patterns, someone has to find the patterns, if they exist. which is why reporting people is important.

I think it is very valid reason to have a report system in [CURRENT YEAR]

but it is not the same. Do you report someone for being bad at the game (hanzo missing shots)?
(also, it’s hanzo, he will NOT miss 95% of his shots)

I receive messages regularly (something along the lines of every other day, in some cases), about action being taken against someone I’ve submitted a report about. Things are being done, but you need to contribute and utilize the report feature.

I do use report system. What I’m saying is it’s very easy to dodge the punishment and still throw games.

So now you’re justifying this just as Blizzard do. So let’s say I know I’m garbage at Hanzo. I’m mad at my team. I want them to lose. I don’t want to get banned though. So I lock Hanzo, I shoot towards the enemy, getting 1 random scatter kill in 2-3 minutes. My team plays 5v6, also tilts because I’m soft throwing and loses. Mission accomplished. Is my action reportable? No.

Main reason that there is trolling in comp is because the rank system is broken so people get bored. Need to make it so a win is +100SR and a loss is about -20, then people could actually climb and feel good and wouldn’t troll.

you are bad at a hero. you play the game. your SR will reflect your skills.

do you ban all low tier players because they don’t aim well? What if I’m bad at soldier, I pick soldier and do bad, will you report me?

there’s a difference between being bad at a hero but trying to win and picking a hero to lose.

There IS a difference indeed, from player perspective. But you can never prove certain player was softly throwing that way. “I’m just bad at Hanzo. You’re going to ban me for playing a hero I’m bad at? They say I can play whatever hero I want!” And your thrower dodges the punishment.

blizzard does not ban this behavior.

and i dare someone to show me evidence otherwise.

There is primarily trolling because people realize how the system is broken and that there is no point. The ranking system needs to be adjusted to award increased SR for losses, then everyone would try their hardest regardless of if they think the team can win or not.
