Competitive Practice Mode

So what if there was a game mode that was unranked, but was still competitive? Well that doesn’t quite work. Just look at quickplay. People want a good environment to practice heroes that might not be all mechanical skill. Heroes that take coordination, and sometimes just the right comp.

Well I have a solution to this that takes role selection, and implements it into a Practice mode for competitive. The way it would work is that it only allows two tanks, two supports, and two dps. Yes, people can still troll, but you at least have things to work around, and you can get a better feel for characters like Sombra who require a coordinated team.

There is no downside to this, and it would take no extra resources for blizzard to create. It would also help people who are new to the game. To go into comp straight from quickplay is like throwing a pig into a pit filled with hungry wolves. It just won’t end well. Typically people end up falling towards the low side of comp because they have no idea what they are doing, and that’s okay. They may never have played a game like overwatch before. There is lots of reasons for them not to be great at the game. Especially if they can’t find their main at the start.

Another thing that I would personally love if this was added would be to play in a slightly more competitive environment with m friends who are much lower in rank than me. In all fairness most of them either don’t play enough, or are more casual players. There is nothing wrong with that. I don’t think it’s bad to have lower skilled players with higher skilled players. Sometimes it’s the best thing for you. Decent players pass off strategies, and also will coordinate more with the team. They can critique your mistakes (hopefully politely), and help you if they are good people. Overall it would benefit you, even if you struggle at first. Low ranks DON’T teach you anything besides how to aim. Which is why most people are stuck in these ranks. How do they get better?

Let me know what you think.

Summary:
Competitive with a locked 2-2-2 comp that is unranked, and let’s players from all skill levels play together. Which means playing competitive without stress, and allowing you to practice, or have fun with friends that aren’t on your ranking. It would allow you to improve, and even learn from others.

Sure, it could work. As a tank main, I’m 100% in support of role queue system just because I’ve played enough games without enough tanks and supports and it really sucks and takes the fun out of the game for me.

However, as I’ve stated in other threads, I would like to try out such a system on PTR for at least a month first to see how such a system fairs. If it works and is received well by the community, maybe implement it in to arcade, QP or a non SR based comp mode, anything, I don’t care which part of the game it’s added to as long as it’s an OPTION and not forced, and as long as we get to play test such a system in PTR first.

so what happens if you get torb or symm?

I did touch on this, but no matter what it’s better to have the option for a mode like this.

Not much “practice” if they are far apart in skill levels, you don’t learn much from being spawn camped and stomped.

Custom Game Lobby…

It can do most of this. IT can force rnaodm 2-2-2 but you can manually select that and change up whcih 2 are available each round.

A lot of ppl just don’t choose to use the Custom Game Lobby.

Yes, but nobody joins custom games

Yes they do. They don’t join custom games they don’t find interesting. I’m in custom games daily practicing as Widow…always filled up.

The Custom Game lobby is actually a good place to test if your game mode would even be popular or not xD

This is already possible with a few quick switches to a Custom Game’s settings, but I’d love it if this type of game mode were implemented. I’d definitely queue for it especially with my silver and gold friends.

People would still regard it as “quickplay”…

How does one try anything innovative?

I see some stomps in the future…Even moreso than people say are happening right now.

Part of the reason why Comp is the best place to practice is the STAKES! People typically FEEL obligated to try in that mode.

As soon as you take the incentive to win away from any game mode in this game, it becomes pretty much the same as quick play or competitive off season.

I learned to play torb and build a turret inside the spawn room and have junkrat, soldier, bastion spam clear the way for tanks by being spawn camped on Attack.

I picked up Zarya for 5-6 games in a row during Quick Play and I started getting queued up with people at a MUCH higher rating than me. Playing alongside masters, diamonds, and even a few top 500s/GMs taught me how to keep up, and spectating friends in those ranks helps me learn great positioning techniques for support heroes.

For reference, my SR on Xbox is 2600. I’m regularly queued into matches with SR ratings in the 3200-4100 when I select anything other than Total Mayhem, Deathmatch, or 3v3 lockout.

Just because SRs vary wildly doesn’t mean a stomp is inbound.
