The devs has done the competitive playerbase extremely dirty by lowering the skill floor of the game to the ground just to cater to the non-competitive playerbase.
Here’s how to save it:
Devs need to figure out annoying in-game interactions: Roadhog hooks, the whole moira kit in general is extremely unfun to play against, Ball stall with insane level of HP, lifeweaver lifegrip is in general very annoying to have on the team, Doomfist CC is very annoying. Luckily a lot of these heroes except doom are not even meta and are completely useless most of the time
After acknowledging this, reduce the annoying ability, increase the other aspects of the kit. E.g: Doomfist, increase mobility, reduce CC. Hitscan heroes: Reduce their health, they should not be able to contest everything in their LOS with that much damage while also have high health, Moira: The whole hero needs either a full rework or just plain removal from the competitive hero pool. Make the hero’s right click into a zarya beam would be a bare minimum start, should’ve happened years ago.
In general, the competitive patches should be increasing the skill floor of the game rather than running it into the ground.
Venture was another hero that isn’t very fun to play against and has a lower skill ceiling in comparison to other heroes. Venture has a lot of annoying CC-combos, but she’s not meta luckily. Once again, devs are failing to make an actually decent hero.
Increasing rein charge to 300HP will change NOTHING. It will only make it a more annoying thing to play against, it’s not actually going to make rein fun to play or make him useful.
Another time devs completely fail to understand the game, instead, you’re just buffing already annoying abilities that will not actually change the cass, sigma, poke spam meta. What are you accomplishing by increasing rein pin HP? It does nothing but make the game more annoying? It doesn’t even make rein meta… He will still be as useless as he is now
Junker queen and echo are the last examples of heroes that were actually normal and somewhat creative.
Look at top 500, it’s literally Diamond now… This is a new low. There was a time where the top players used to WAIT for top 500 to come out and already have 50+ games in the season start… What is happening?
Most good players of the game have either already quit the game or regularly complain about it on youtube and twitch about how its dead.
OWL is dead already, the competitive scene is almost non-existent now.
It’s like that since ages especially early on and tank role specific.
It’s exactly the opposite, there is nothing casual left, so it’s a tryhard sweatfest in almost every mode.
And that’s why nobody is playing, without a big casual playerbase, the hardcore crowd gets smaller by the day.
The tanking situation is making it worse too.
It only influences the matchups with the corniest DPS in the game. If you play Reaper, Bastion, or Mei and are only JUST figuring out the game is casual, there is something wrong, fam. Get up against that wall!
That’s what happens when you even give the mode a revamp and it consists of a soft rank reset and gaudy, subjectively tasteless “jade” weapons that are actually just puke green tainted gold. Nothing jade about them, still takes a huge grind for 1, and still not even worth it to pusue for most players.
Other games: a competitive season rewards track, milestone rewards for ranking up such as titles, mounts, cosmetics, or otherwise comemorative season-exclusives for participating.
Overwatch: a “who gives a crap” ladder, a temporary BORING title that no one equips, and 10 points of currency towards the laziest weapon reskin imaginable.
In my meaningless and overly biased opinion, they should change the comp game length to match the QP game length. One of the main reasons I don’t play comp is because of how long each match is
I can assure you that reinhardt pin being increased to 300 will barely make any difference in those hero intereactions. You can come back to this post in 1 month and tell me how right I will be.
Bastion would’ve melted rein by the the time his charge even gets to him, reaper has fade, mei has iceblock. Even with the current pin, once those heroes do get charged, they will die regardless.
You need to understand the game on the level of interactions rather than just increasing numbers and hoping it does something.
An actually good change would be reducing damage rein takes when charging, increasing his movement speed when his shield is breaking. In fact, I think his pin damage should be REDUCED and the damage taken while he swings should be REDUCED, overall health REDUCED (pre season 9 patch).
This is how you actually make balance changes, that not only make the hero fun TO PLAY and TO PLAY AGAINST.
I doubt it, fam. I am going to leave this plane of existence and ascend to Nirvana.
You do not want to charge him while he is in turret form. I admire your young lion energy, but I am not THAT crazy.
You just bait those abilities or catch them once a teammates has. It is relatively easy because they always overextend to try and pressure you. Or if not, they are not threat to me.
They do not die if charged because Reinhardt does not have a DPS passive and my DPS players are always useless because I duo with a support player.
And these interactions will definitely change, for the better (for Reinhardt).
Do not get me wrong, it would definitely make him more powerful, but I do not believe that is their goal.
Screw that. If you find Reinhardt unfun to play against, this game is not for you. You aren’t going to make it.
But to be fair the game isn’t casual anymore either. No cosmetics to earn without paying money. No new and engaging arcade modes. Everything is FOMO and seasonal. No PvE. Like the game isn’t casual or competitive.
If competitive had such a low skill floor you would think that great players in other games would not get hard stuck in Plat, sometimes low Diamond, for hundreds of hours. However that is exactly what happens. For the ones that try to reach the pinnacle it takes them sometimes thousands of hours to reach the level of everyone else despite being great at other games.
What is weird is that circumstance doesnt really happen in other games. There is a curve certainly but you progress up the ranks much faster if you are an OW player learning other games. That clearly hinders your point about a low skill floor if the best players are struggling this much with it.
OWL has been dead for a long time. Did you just realize this?
By the way, I love that this game is more casual than not. Go play something else if you don’t…
Some characters just literally require you to stand next to others to heal them. If you thought this is a hardcore fps then, I don’t know what to tell you lol
I think the hit-box change overall hurt the game. Everyone has large hp pools now, hits things that shouldn’t and overall made some of the support cast that doesn’t have really high output a bad pick.
Like mercy healing a tank takes forever, ana healing tanks basically spams her pee jar.
Supports basically make up the second tank because of their dps being super inflated with illari, and bap being really strong.
Bigger health pools threw a lot of hero’s out of wack. OW1 tanks for example had the same hp as some dps/support hero’s. I think half baked changes worked for a little bit but now very few can even play this game for long straights without being exhausted or just mentally tapped out dealing with the 50 additional things Blizzard added to think about when in the game.
Man some supports feel like they need to pocket, okay. Well everyone hit’s more shots.
More people do dps, hit those shots easier, it’s just I think something that swing and hit at first and as things changed, cracks formed and now the cracks are getting bigger. idk man.
