I am determined to climb out of bronze as support/tank and im nearly there, so which one is the safest option. I’m not about to lose SR after getting this far.
Practice is practice; role queue isn’t going to magically carry games for you. If you’re Bronze, you need a lot of practice and waiting until role queue isn’t doing you any favors.
Role queue will take into account your performance with the different roles. If you improve as a support before role queue comes out, you might get placed higher when it does.
I stress the might because it’s all on you doing well.
If you strugle to do it now, wait for new system.

If you can record games, we have people who are able to review them and help you get better.
Not exactly. New placement works as initial placement based on what i saw. So if you have bad luck and lose all 5, you can drop a lot even when you played good.
The ptr placements were based on previous data. That’s why GM players still placed on GM. I think the highest anyone has ever placed via initial placements was low Masters. (It might have been Dafran? I don’t remember.)
Yes and no, as i ssid before based on my experience and based on where some people placed it acts as initial placement, you will even have extreme spikes after placement few games with lost or gained sr. Only difference is that your initial placement game starts on your role mmr you had. On new accounts its 2350±.
I think they stated that the placement games would be based of your previous season highest SR.
But only the first initial placement.
Yeah, because Swimmer placed 4722 and I don’t think that was after 5 games starting at 2350.
We’re only talking about initial placements.
I am too. Again only difference new system placement vs old one is amplified lost or gained sr first few games after placement, less comp games (5) and initial starting point.
It’s because the PTR handled placements like if they were new accounts (you have the same 100 +/- gain for a few games on a completly new account).
Probably will be the same thing on live but it’s not like he will be better off not playing when he could tank his SR to the bottom and the initial placements will still be based of his best SR.
What i was trying to say is this: when he strugle now and barely climb something, he can easily lost 500 sr just from new placement and after only because he will have bad luck with games.
Well, I’m trying to climb as a support. It’s been going well but I dont want to risk any sr, but I guess if it’ll better my chances…
Now that I think about it, with sigma coming out having a high difficulty, I might as well climb now before he’s added to comp. That’ll be a mess.
Whichever you chose… it’s not gonna magically rank you up. Remember, with your team having a guaranteed 2-2-2, it also means you won’t get steam roll games where your enemies run 4 DPS crapfest comps. It will however lessen your stress about needing to flex and ensure you can focus on one role to improve.
You can actually try the PTR server to see how you like it, it’s pretty awesome!
I do however advise you to just play to improve. Don’t bother looking at your SR/rank too much, and just look at how you become a better player.
For example my live SR is actualy 3047. I made it there after i mained zen from 2750 and I never played tank above 3000.
On ptr i placed 150 lower with support and 3389 with tank. Thats why i dont really see point in tryharding now because new placement will most likely change things a lot.
if you are in bronze, what do you have to lose?
Keep playing, don’t stop or wait for role queue. A month (couple weeks, whatever it is) away from the game will only make it tougher when you come back.
It will be launched august 13th I believe.
