Competitive needs a ban and pick phase

Tired of all the swaps? Let’s have a LoL-like ban and pick phase. Each team gets a ban, then one side picks, then the other.

First pick gets the most desired hero
Last pick gets the final counter opportunity

Once the game starts there are NO swaps.

Here before the one tricks show up, saying it’d be an awful thing to implement.

But, it needs to happen, seriously.

I don’t know if it’s a good idea or not, but man it sure would be fun to have game modes like this pop up every now and then even as just a trial rather than the boring stuff in arcade (or have a rotating comp card with shorter seasons to swap out w/mystery heroes, etc.).

No. That literally becomes “Ban Pharah or choose her for a free win”

No. Terrible idea. Go back to Siege.

Nope.

Going Role Queue in 2019 and 5v5 was already going against the very concept of Overwatch.

I don’t want this game to lose itself even more by banning counters since it’s the game’s particularity.

This is one of the few games that let you swap characters mid match.

You want your chewed up bubblegum flavor? Go get it anywhere else.

I agree with having some bans, but swapping is a core game mechanic. I don’t think that should ever change.

Peak overwatch is open queue 6v6, but at this point, a ban and pick phase with no switching would make the game better. Counter switching has one purpose now; counter whatever the tank picks. It’s annoying and a large reason nobody plays tank anymore. I’m a 2.5k hour tank main and I can’t stand the role anymore.

The pick phase also gets rid of a long time problem in overwatch, and that’s the blind start that can put a team at a significant disadvantage when they’re heavily countered at match start. It gives one team ult charge and objective points for getting lucky.

But who are we kidding? This game can’t even match people of equal skill together in comp. It’s a casual game now.

If they did this, there would have to be ways to seriously customize loadouts before, and during, the game like Paladins does with the cards and items, imo.
