It’s becoming genuinely insufferable to play comp with the amount of leavers ATM. I’ve played at least 10ish games this week where someone left not even a minute in because of one lost team fight. This is on top of people leaving later in the game. I’ve also heard people on here say it’s a “skill issue” to lose games with leavers?? Expecting someone to win a game of a 4v5 especially if it’s a tank that leaves is absolutely ridiculous.

Leaving comp is way worse than leaving QuickPlay. The only good reasons are disconnects outside of your control or a real life emergency.

Blizzard encouraged this behavior by making the game free to play. People just mass make alt/smurf accounts and troll games all day. And since they aren’t playing on their mains, they don’t care if they win or lose, or even get penalized for leaving.

Too much else to do in life than stress about this game.
I think there’s something weird going on with the servers that’s causing DCs in comp. Atm I’m waiting out a 8 hr suspension and when it’s over I’m going to be nervous to play due to fear of a season ban.
In over 20 years of gaming online I have NEVER rage quit a game or left early, in any online game, not just OW. But today I would DC, rejoin, play a couple games no problem, DC, rejoin, etc.
After DCing, before playing comp again I played some different online games where DCing isn’t an issue and had no problems. Jump back on OW, play a few quick play games with no problem, jump in a comp game and after round one BAM DC and an 8 hr ban… That was 3 hrs ago, and I’ve had no DCs since playing quick play.

If you have a VPN on, turn it off.
The end of the season, and the start of the season, are always much worse in this regard. It might be best to avoid competitive mode the first/last two weeks of a season on any account you are actively trying to climb rank with…

I don’t use a VPN. I was playing yesterday just fine with no issues. It all started today.

When I forget to turn my VPN off, I have issues similar to what you described. Hopefully, your issue is something equally as simple.

this would be less of an issue if they tried the carrot for once instead of just getting a bigger stick, as its clear that it isn’t stopping the leaver issue, just reduces its frequency, which is goof for blizzard, but not for the players actually affected,
So instead they should employ the carrot, in that the rest of the team are not punished for it. weather it counts as a draw for the losing side rather than a lost so rank is not affected. furthermore the stick can still be applied to the leavers and those that think they can leave a match at the end to impact a result if their team is losing . ie they get the loss and count toward suspension.
This addresses the gripe and reason people complain. which is the sting and bitter taste that comes from a loss due to reasons beyond your control. nothing makes me want to punch a screen more than the negative psychological effect of hitting de rank protection and the next match has a leaver, and you have to win the next 3 games straight just to rank up again. and thats also assumes the other team just does not start trolling and spawn camping etc.
They need to make a lever have a neutral effect. having someone leave and the team knows even if they lose now their rank gets a save and wont de rank. will have a far less negative impact, may even keep them positive enough to try and pull a win, which should also grant the uphill battle modifier if they do pull a win, leavers will still happen but far less would actually complain about them also.
I mean, I’m not one of the offenders… but I sort of am, because I literally won’t even TOUCH comp at all. So I don’t really blame anyone for leaving any match right now… and I used to hate leavers.
But as long as this Lead Balance Dev is in charge of balancing, things are not gonna get any better… They’re just getting worse and worse and worse, and they’ll keep getting worse. People leave because of their incompetence.
