Competitive is unfun as support

Okay, i know i will sound like every other person who whines about this game but, here goes.

As a support player, ranked is so freaking tiresome and terrible. Without a premade group - you have teammates that do 3-4k damage, with a 3-10 KD. Or a tank who likes to push in by themselves and scream ‘where are the team? where are the heals?’ while youre being dived by the opposite team.

I dont know if anyone else feels this but, i wish it was based on your own stats and performance. As a support, if you have a bad team - you lose. You can be doing the absolute freaking most, healing, anti-ing, dmging - hell even body blocking your teammates WITHOUT dying so they take lest damage. But oh. You have a bad team? looks like YOU are deranking and paying the price for it.

Im hardstuck in plat, i have no issues with this since i play for fun. The problem is, losing all the time is NOT fun. I went from PLAT 2 TO PLAT 4 because i lost 3 games (ONLY THREE) due to a 2k dps reaper and other bullsh!t dps.

May i also add, i had a game in high plat with an ana, this ana did 2K HEALING. while i solo healed as kiriko with 14k heals - 3k dmg. Granted, we won due to having a further push, this person should ABSOLOUTLEY not be in this rank? - When called out by the team on this their response was ‘idc’. Well, sorry ana, some of us DO care.

I dont have a premade team, i look in discords for some, i look to my friends and still nothing, three of us at most. Ive been told many, many times by SO many different people ‘why are you even in this rank, with your movement and skills you should 100% be in diamond, or even masters’.

Again though, this isnt about my personal rank, this is about if anyone else feels that support players get the brunt end of the stick due to having terrible matchmaking. I understand that if some people are placed too high, its too hard for them but for those that are placed too low it is absolutely UNBAREBLE. - I also know there are some reworks coming to the ranked system soon but, i really dont have high hopes anymore. Im not having fun, my tank friends arent having fun with terrible dps.

Any advice? Thoughts? Just wanted to see what others think about this. Since i love this game, i have LOVED it since it came out…i just. I cant do it anymore, i cant keep pretending this is fun and that im enjoying myself.

I completely and whole heartedly agree with everything you said. Support in comp is horrid and no one will ever change my mind. I’ve played 136 games of role queue for support as of now, I am in Diamond. It is honestly rare to find an actual good team where everyone is doing their part and doing it CORRECTLY. The times where it is not so good is when it’s the trash players who want to talk smack on the supports. You could be diffing the opposite supports, and they will still try and blame it on you! What’s even crazier is when you have more dmg than the tank/dps at times? Makes no sense to be honest. Having another support though that does nothing is frustrating. I do not get how come someone could be so bad at being a decent support. I had a game where we had a zen and he did nothing, no heals no damage and this was in a diamond lobby? At this point I am just convinced that a lot of players are carried into the higher rankings and then once they play on their own and actually have to do the work, they cannot.

There has been so many times when I was told to switch to a different support and I would; the only problem is, is that they would still complain after I listened to them as if they are not the problem? Example, our tank went doom to try and diff the other teams doom, but did nothing and caused us the game. The supports switched to try and play around him but it just was not working. When we asked him to switch he got mad af and was trying to say we were throwing the game? I had more dmg then one of our dps as well. At this point, it feels like no matter what you do to try and play well and as a team SUPPORTS will always get the blame. I do understand sometimes the other support is bad but that does not make me bad as well and people need to understand that.

Anyways, my advice is to just try and keep pushing through, try and find some people to play with. I am slowly climbing in other roles so if you ever wanna play I’m down.

Endless cope from supports saying they play well and their team is the problem :joy:

It’s always dps too, and magically almost every game the enemy dps are somehow better :scream: I wonder maybe if this common factor has something to do with someone not being as good of a support player as they think they are.

I only play support and only comp role queue solo. One tricked Lucio the last several years in M1/GM5. This meta sucks for a Lucio, I guess I’m learning Mercy. But I’m still having fun.

…Not sure why so many Support players act like they’re the only ones who suffer from things that everyone has to deal with.

I had a zen that said dps diff when he needlessly used his ult offensively instead of saving it for the enemy ult for the final push. And we all wiped to ults.

In another game, we were melting the enemy at 2nd point. Overtime comes, some dps die, but the payload was so far from the checkpoint there was enough time for everyone to respawn and regroup. Instead of retreating and healing the tank, the mercy tries to revive the dead dps and dies. Then the tank dies. Now we’re staggered and they snowball us.

I can deal with skill diffs but brain diffs are harder to carry. And both these support were whining about the dps. I dont think most support understand how the game works despite what they think.

Support is the hardest role to master imo. If you dont have good insight , just play dps.

tell us youre the tank that constantly Ws into the other team, without saying it…

becasue support is by far the most sh!t on role right now. You could have said something to the effect of “I’m a dps and I deal with this too,” or “I’m a tank and I have experienced this also,” but instead, you went crybaby mode. Yes we all deal with it in some way, but, as a support main now that used to be a dps main, Ic an tell you, supports are currently dealing with it the worst. We have the fewest QoL updates, the fewest overall attention from Blizzard and the devs, and the most expected of us while taking the brunt of the blame.

TANKS: W into the front line, get some kills, create space.
DPS: mindlessly kill a few people and make sure to never be in LOS of your healing

SUPPORT: heal, damage, move the cart, write some code for the game to make things easier on dps, make a pie, sew a new shirt, handle all my calls, dictate this for me, run this errand, and when you have some time HEALLLLLLLL MEEEEEEEEE.

it sucks I am Bronze but i went up just now was expecting to be the same.

SUPPORT - (B1) L,L,W,W,W | (B3) L,W,L,W,L,L,W,L,L,L,W,W,W,W | (B2)

On loving the game, in OW1 i found my passion for the game back in Mystery Heroes. Great community there, in fact i think i have played more MH than comp but that might change soon.

Irony.

True!

I’m rubbish as support, but support is easily the most fun in the game because it’s so chill.

You saying you don’t want that from your tank…
Boring.

New player here. I just got to plat first time as a support this week.

Since you can’t choose your teammates, your best option is to work on yourself and adapt to surrounding circumstances. If you have poor teammates and you’re getting dove on, pick a support with which you can handle it the best. I often pick Moira myself and just take the enemies who are diving me on a ride while hopefully my team will now have a better chance at dealing with whatever they’re dealing with in the Main. Usually the better enemies know the dive the backline so if they’re out of the main fight, well, they’re not getting value.

It can also help to communicate your team “hi everyone, the reason why you guys aren’t getting heals is because this enemy Reaper/Genji/Tracer keeps diving our backline. Either help your backline to peel them off or play as if you don’t have supports since said supports are too busy keeping themselves alive. Choice is yours”. Sometimes they’ll actually adapt to that. Sometimes they don’t in which case you can adapt to it yourself or say GG, next.

You must remember that the people you get matched with, friendlies and enemies alike are indeed within your MMR which means the chances of them matching with or against you is 50/50. I’ve even had cases where I get a bad teammate and we lose only to match against this same person few rounds later and we roll him and his team. Sooner or later that “bad teammate” will be on the enemy side and that’s when you score a win and rank up.

If you are indeed performing better than everyone else in your matches, it’s only a matter of time before you rank up. It’s a marathon, not a sprint, keep at it!

Indeed, but by then you’re already a division or two down so you just end up back where you were before they entered your games lol.

My suspicions with this is that a silver player will get great stats/winrate at the bottom of his mmr giving him a higher mmr rating.

A diamond player will have the same but his/her bottom is high gold.

The game could determine these players are equal because technically they performed the same but in their respective “bottoms” while both players will have a completely different level of game sense and decision making.

Which is why I feel the mmr gets it wrong.

I dont know how it “scores” players but this is what it feels like its doing.

The other player is down a division too since you both lost together initially. Except he doesn’t climb since you won. And now the chances of you two matching up against each other is gone forever. Byebye bad teammate.

I’m not 100% sure what you mean by this.

Let’s say it’s Silver and a Plat player together in what’s essentially a Gold lobby. Say their team wins.

If they both performed equally the MM is gonna say “wow, this Silver Player really stepped up their game, time to up their MMR for real and see what they’re made of”.

For the Plat player the MM goes “A Plat beat Gold players; business as usual so a smaller adjustment, let’s see how they do against other Plats”. The lower you are, the faster you climb, right? Eventually when you reach your skill ceiling, you stop climbing altogether.

If the game sense and decision making is indeed different for these two players, it may not show up on this particular match. But it will show up on a larger sample of coming matches. And their eventual SR will reflect that.

How ranks are handled in OW2.

Players A has stats, Player B has stats. They do some calculations and what not. Throw them in the trash then RNG games together after they scramble players ranks at random.

you have literally no understanding of the matchmaking you are talking about. I recommend going and reading the recent Matchmaking blog written by Blizzard. You will either come out of it with an actual understanding, or be more confused. Either way, you will understand how bad it is afterward.

I recommend you re-read because they were pretty much on point with their remark.

I agree, most unrewarding role I have ever played in anything. Matching is pure poo, I’m outta here until this crap is changed. It got significantly worse in the last week I have no idea why, but it isnt fun its just that simple.
