Competitive FFA?

I’ve been thinking about this for a while and I’m curious to see if something like this could work. I feel like it could be very popular because I feel like a lot of people play FFA (at least on PS4) and it will focus more on a players individual mechanical skill more than positioning, how they work with a team, etc. And it will be less stressful than the normal competitive because players wouldn’t have to worry about team comps and won’t have to deal with toxicity from teammates. It could be thrown into the Arcade rotation like what CTF is

It’s still gonna be the same whining though:

“Nerf Tracer”
“Moira/Brigitte OP”
“Junks spam is OP”

Just gonna be a different game mode with the same results

You mean 8 person road hog madness ? K

More like 8 person Junkrat madness.

It could be fun.

Sure, some heroes will perform better than others, but then you can boast you are the best symm dm player.

I’m all for it.

I believe Overwatch was meant to be a team based game with players needing to swap one character for another as the situation dictates it.

FFA does not align well with the above (assuming I am correct) and the game isn’t balanced to be played in this way as half the cast is essentially useless in this game mode. (how hard is Zarya to play in this mode? )

Inevitably what would happen is there would likely become a fixed meta, since characters are designed to interact with both their enemies and their own team and the player based would likely become even more fragmented.

Don’t get me wrong, fragmentation is inevitable and also part of what is needed to make something truly last a long time, but due to what I stated above, it may not be the time for it just yet.

I still think FFA is pretty gimmicky and the main reason for it’s popularity is that’s probably the best way to practice mechanical ability against real opponents (and that you can play whoever you want without the pressure of team compositions). If you make it a competitive mode, it’s just going to detract from the real deal competitive.

Hiberdive is on the money

FFA is awesome for mechanical skill and learning positioning. Couldn’t say it much better myself.

No, literally all I see in FFA despite it being an Arcade mode is salt and whining.

That’s really strange in most of my FFA games I mainly see people either making comments like good luck, a joke, or congratulating someone on a victory.
