Competitive "comms"

at what point do people actually communicate in ranked??? its ridiculous that most of the team doesn’t even join chat in such a fast paced game at lower ranks so far. Complete lack of playing “competitively”.

It still blows my mind that people queue for comp without being in chat at all. Like, where they can’t even hear the rest of the team. I don’t think you can say you’re trying your hardest to win if you intentionally cut yourself off from communication. I can’t tell you how many games would’ve gone completely the other way if that people had been in chat.

Then they have the total lack of self awareness to get in text chat and blame other people. Like…they have no idea what the plan was. They don’t even know they’re why it didn’t work. Being in team chat should be mandatory in competitive.

I don’t get it. I’ll go five matches without teammates on coms. Well, I will get that one person at the end come on and blame everyone else for the loss, not realizing if they had communicated during the match, we would have had a better chance of winning.

If I’m playing comp, I’m on coms. Period. If I don’t feel like communicating, I’ll play QP.

I’m in Gold and if I’m not the only one in voice I’m the only one talking lmao

The higher you go, the more voice there is. Want more voice? Get Better! I talk in voice even if no one is there or answering. It’s still good practice.

Comms really dont matter until around masters. There was a post a while back about this where I as well as a few others posted some points on why comms dont really matter for lower elo, as well as why some players falsely think that by using comms wins them games. Heres the quote…

If you want to read this, rather interesting thread here it is

that’s honestly complete bullsh*t for anyone that’s played competitively in anything else. there’s no competitive team game in reality where communicating does not matter. Look at any sport and there’s constant chatter between each player. Even miscommunication is better than no communications because they’re often looking at another glaring issue to them.

I personally don’t use them I’m mute but during OW1 I saw people using them actively until I stopped around I believe S6? Now I don’t hear anyone on them.

Yeah well in sports you actually know the people better, will see them again, they’re not anonymous, etc.

If gamers knew how to behave more people would use voice. But they don’t so :woman_shrugging:t2:

I am not sure what you are talking about “competitive in anything else”. To reiterate what I said; Comms are of little use to lower elo players in comp. The skill difference between high and low elo have nothing to do with comms. If that were the case, then everyone would be in high elo based on comms.

If you are a grouped with a 5 stack in OW and you can all effectively communicate then that’s one thing. I would like you to try and listen to and act on bad call outs/miscommunication mid fight in OW and see for yourself what the issue is with saying that even miscommunication is beneficial.

you are 100% a bot with that generic answer, unless you’re on a payroll. communication is key regardless, especially in lower ranks where critical mistakes are avoidable with comms.

I definitely think comms help, even in lower elos. I’m in Gold and when people are actually using the comms we avoid getting flanked more, avoid more ults, and manage our own ults better because VC is faster relaying the information and harder to ignore than the in-game pings (or, more often, not giving any information at all). The pings are a huge step up from the OW1 system, but they’re still a little unreliable (sometimes you try to ping “enemy here” and it’s just “over here”) and I think a lot of players haven’t adjusted to noticing them yet (or just choose to ignore them, lol).

Voice chat undoubtedly matters more at high levels, but it still matters even in low ranks.

Gold 2 here. Its usually just 1 person using mic and its usually not me. I use ping way more often because having to reach the corner of my keyboard to use voice chat is kind of hard while in a firefight. I should probably just rebind it or open mic though.

But why does nobody else use ping???

The question you should be asking yourself is why would people even communicate on a 6+ years game they know by heart… ?

Everybody knows their job and everyone got the same rank they had on OW1 so… no big deal.

The only bot here is you

Comms aren’t needed in most cases. On EU servers people usually only callout who is low hp, sometimes a simple ask for bubbles or nano before going in. Rarely there is any strategizing mid game besides one line commands. Pings are a life saver in OW2, they tell you a lot about flanking enemies without speaking + you can precisely signal where someone is.

From my experience, comms are either extremely simple or just toxic garbage and blaming people, telling them to swap etc. I stay on mic but I understand people who don’t. It takes effort to communicate well and not everyone needs to enjoy it. And I would rather have silent teammates than loud, untrue callouts and toxicity.

because we are supposed to be competitive? bad argument though. why do owl players even communicate, just play like bots problem solved.

You can be competitive without using any type of chat. There’s also a ping system now. Bad argument from your part.

They are among less than 1% of the playerbase. Comparing them to us peasants is foolish.

You can be Competitive without communicating. Your game knowledge and game awareness are enough (hoping you have any).
