Competitive Class Lock-in Discussion

I’d like to suggest the possibility of locked team composition in competitive play.

An optional queue where you choose a class (attack, tank, support)

-Players queuing in the locked queue will queue with others in the locked queue, while players in open queue can sort out their team comp as usual.
-locked queue would be set to 2/2/2 composition.
-Players can change heroes within their class during the match while in spawn room

I understand this won’t really work at high levels where 1/3/2 or 0/4/2 are viable with the teamwork that players have developed, but it might give players in lower ranks the option to experience regular team play without the problems of ending up in a game with 4 dps players.
Obviously dps players will be in for longer locked queue waits, but that may encourage pure dps players to try tanks and support in order to get into games quicker with guaranteed 2/2/2 team comp.

Goes against everything the game is about, and would solve nothing.

The way it is now, you do see people switch heroes sometimes.

If you let people lock a role, forget it. I actually think it would be more toxic with role select, or a set comp.

It’s not unfair to expect someone to stick within with a particular class (able to change between different healers/dps/tanks) from match start to finish. This system allows people to lock in their preferred class. It’s not about stopping trolls, leavers and throwers. It’s for those who choose the locked queue who do so for the minimum team composition.

Some games I end up with 4 tank mains, others with 5 Dps players. With a system like this that is optional it allows players to rely on teaming up with people who are playing a chosen roll.

to reiterate: Optional locked queue

Locking a 222 combo would mean that Overwatch is suggesting and forcing a meta on everyone.

Again, optional . The system doesn’t allow for solo heals with sombra for instance. It’s not a full fix, it just gives players to option to play in teams with the most common and basic role composition of 2/2/2 with players who have chosen the roles they want to play. Pulling off next level strats is not really expected in low ranks as anyone who plays in them can attest.

Role queue doesn’t fix hero composition, counter flex, shallow hero pools, trolls, throwers or leavers. It just provides players who choose it to enter a game with basic overall team comp and an opportunity to play the role they want instead of being forced to play tank/healer because no one else will.

Higher ranked players may be more confident in choosing the open queue or locked queue may not be available at ranks above gold.

Blizzard made a game that encourages flex among different roles and heros.
This system goes against arrogance and selfishness which is all over the place in online gaming communities. This is why you have issues with one tricks and people auto locking a class and refusing to swap off if they are getting hard countered.

This.

Players are still free to flex within their rolls, which is basically a must in the current meta.
