As I’m sure many of us know right now a lot of competitive gameplay is currently nothing but a really unbalanced mess, the placement matches really have no meaning once you’re played them for the first time on your account because wherever you end the last season is where you place next season regardless of whether you get 10 straight wins.
This really needs to change… A great many players including myself are are forced to be stuck in bronze rank not because we’re bad at the game or new, but rather because we had a few bad teams and kept losing rank then found ourselves unable to climb again because we can no longer play the way we’re used to playing, playing at a higher rank and then being pushed into a lower rank is harder than climbing to a higher rank because the lower ranked players can’t keep up with the way you are used to playing.
The best solution to this would be for Blizzard to reset your placement tier between every season, put you back in the middle ground and let your SR be decided once again based on how you do in your placements rather than where you ended last season.
Not only would that allow the higher skilled players to be placed in a much more fair way based on their own skill but it would also give the less skilled players more chance to improve by being placed with higher skilled players in their placement games, placing at a higher rank and spending more time playing with better players who can give them advise on how to improve and become a better player.
This would not only bring more balance to the competitive game but also cause far less people to become tired of playing the game and leaving as I’ve seen a large number of players do so come on Blizzard, make competitive fun again and bring this game back to what it once was.
So for the first few weeks, all games have at least 3 GM players each match to smash the literal s*** out of all the other noob players because everyone starts off at the middle, and Bronze players have a chance to get into gold because they got their a** carried.
Meanwhile, everyone struggles with having someone on the team drag the entire team down, except for bronze players who are the ones dragging the team down, and hence enjoy each game and free SR like a luxury they could never afford, because that is literally what it is.
If you think this would bring balance to competitive I have some bad news for you
I like placement how it is now. I stay in plat, if i try i can end up at low diamond, but i dont have to, and i can farm gold weapon points (only reason to play this terrible mode) with not much work put into this.
Yes, you like it just because it benefits “you” I’m thinking about the game in general, have you tried playing the way you play with people who are really bad at the game? It does not go well, and this is coming from a fellow Reaper player
Its normal thing in most of games at my rank.
Im not reaper player, it just icon. Ok i have gold weapon for him, but in ranked i play tanks and healers, and throught my overwatch carrier i started at gold, and i got to diamond two times, now im in plat, and i see nothing wrong with how ranked worked over all this time.
I see your comprehension is poor.
For your easier understanding: This change is bad. Very. Bad.
The idea that people higher than plat are benefiting from the placement system while people lower than plat are suffering from some kind of hidden barrier is a poor attempt at excusing your own poor play
I do not mind playing with people who are bad. I only look at myself in game and see what I could have done better. And apologies, but I do not identify myself with hidden profiles that claim to be Reaper players.
This whole paragraph reeks of “I’m good but the game doesn’t register it” or “I don’t belong where I am placed, I belong much higher”.
Might do well do start focusing on how to improve yourself than whine about how the game doesn’t recognize your immense talent.
That’s because you’ve been lucky then, my experience has been tons of throwers dragging me down from where I started in gold and now in bronze I get players who just can’t keep with the things that I do such as flanking and pulling people away from the group and my teams just do nothing about it.
Yeah im going to be the devil’s advocate here:
Dont think the Competitive system needs to change, but the learning curve (training) and Clans/Guilds support should be happening like right now.
LFG system doesnt work and even the concept is good, the actual people that uses it is minimal and for those who use it, they are discouraged instantly because … they still are random people.
When you create a community and join a guild with similar minded people … the gameplay improvement is brutally huge. Hell, even playing with 2 friends makes the OW comp or quick play experience at least 3x better.
Yes that might help in a lot of cases but what about the players who are too low in SR to play with these people? This season I won 7/10 placement games but I’m still in bronze and still being dragged down by teams that don’t actually even try and work as a team.
Players who split up all over the place where they can’t be healed then scream at the healer for not healing them, Players who all pick DPS and refuse to switch role leaving the team with no tanks or healers, players who ignore their healers asking for help because they got jumped on.
How is the system “fair” when good players are dragged down by teams like that? I’m not pretending to be some pro level player because I’m not but I’m definitely better than these idiots who don’t even try and play the game.
they just need to completely remove hidden MMR, or make THAT your SR.
what is the point of 2 ranking systems?
you play your first 2-3 games of the day and the games are good, teammates do their job, everyone is communicating. you win those games, fine. Then they put you against harder opponents of the same rank, fine enough. You still win, cool. Then they put worse and worse teammates on your team until you can’t win, then they put good teammates back on your team.
the first 2-3 games, I get the ‘good’ 3400 players on my team, and we win. after that, the matchmaker puts the ‘bad’ 3400 players on my team and sees how hard I can carry. Why would you design a matchmaker that creates a situation where there is a pool of good players and a pool of bad players at the same rank? it makes no sense.
Because it “drags down” everyone in the same way. You are not a special case mate.
You have to identify first the things you need to improve to be able to carry and focus on that. I placed almost silver in S1-2. Only made placements for like 5-6 seasons and the moment i started to “care” a bit and realise what was happening in my matches … i started winning and maintaining 60% WR, effectively climbing to Diamond (this is my alt account).
When you get to Silver (which is mechanical skills and having a decent PC / connection) you will find way more players. If a Guild/Clan hall existed, you could even be trained by your team mates to perform X function and specialize.
no, it DOESN’T drag down everyone in the same way. bad players get boosted by getting put with good players a lot, and good players get dragged down by getting put with bad players a lot.
not to mention people who main the low skill cap heroes, becuase their MMR is low due to their hero pool, and therefore they get put with high MMR players all the time, but because of the ease of the hero they play, they provide the same value as a good player.
if one team’s low MMR player is a ‘good’ brigitte, and the other team’s low MMR player is a bad mcree… which team is going to win? think about it.
I do specialise already, If I can get into the enemy team’s back line I cause major hell for them but half the time my teams just don’t follow through, the don’t make that final push to win the fight.
I flank around using Reaper’s teleportation to avoid being seen, focus down the healers and force the rest of the enemy team to turn and focus me to avoid even more of them getting killed, at that point my team should be taking advantage and pushing in but 6/10 times they don’t do that, they just leave me get jumped on and keep trying to push up slowly giving the enemy team time to regroup.
i have an account in plat, an account in diamond, and an account in masters. and based on my experience, there are people who belong in plat that are in masters and there are people who belong in masters that are in plat.
You know that doesnt proof anything right?
Its like saying “hey i know 10 persons that won the lottery, its easy to win!”, yeah no.
I know there are “boosted” people and people that doesnt deserve the rank and people in a rank they shouldnt be because they are better but … that happens in EVERY competitive game EVER made pal.
You are literally trying to discover fire. If you really expect that it is possible to have a perfect MMR system and Competitive mode in a game with so many heroes, sorry to bust your bubble but its not going to happen. Ever.
Gotta be blunt here. If you’re trapped in bronze, you are bad. That place is literally the bottom of the barrel, and if you are even a low gold player, you can climb to silver with relative ease. If you actually want to climb instead of being handed everything, accept this and actually focus on improving.
You think matchmaking sucks now? Imagine when there’s nothing for the matchmaker to work with for the first couple weeks at the beginning of the season.
You think smurfs are bad now? Imagine when players get a free MMR reset on all their smurfs every season.
An MMR reset would do nothing but cause chaos for a few weeks after it happens. Bronzes would still be bronze. GMs would still be GMs. There may be some shuffling in the middle, but on the whole people will end up pretty damn close to where they are right now.
That being said, I’m all for it. Let’s do it. I’ll wait out the chaos, place all my smurfs bronze, place my main and alts in diamond and climb back up to mid master by season end, and people who are clamoring for an MMR reset because they think they’re being held back by teammates may finally accept that they are where they belong (though I doubt it.
WIll it be okay for me to make a competitive change suggestion?
Mostly what I want in competitive to change is that it comes in two forms, Solo and Group play. (Similar to the way Yeti Hunt works)
Solo Play
Solo Play allows players who usually play alone to play with other players who are also alone (The option is locked for anyone that is in a group and Solo Queue Players cannot access Group play)
Everyone on both teams will always be Solo (never in a group)
Group Play
This mode allows groups to join games where they encounter more grouped players (Grouped Players are unable to access Solo Play)
Both teams will have the same amount of people in a group (e.g. If you are in a four player group, the rest of the team will be a duo group and the enemy team will follow the same pattern.)
