It’s because they killed the game with piss poor decisions year on year, so now there’s so few players left that the only way to create a match is by just chucking in the people that happen to be online at the time regardless of their rank.

It’s known fact for years that blizzard have algorithm and rigging games.
Im diamond 2 rn and literally can barely win a game because my team is either AI or disconnect and i get penalized for it. Im gonna start saving replays
Wait till you hit diamond 1-2, GM in every single game man, completely ruining the experience as they are always stomps. Just had a game with tracer and mei from GM and we couldnt even leave spawn. This is diamond 2 game.
I’ve played matches where my opponents will have gm or master in either tank/dps/heals but somehow the role they are playing is silver and we get destroyed. Then the next match the oppoents are so bad that you feel bad for killing them in spawn… The ranking system is flawed. I can win 5 match and with 2 losses on one account over and over and over and I still get placed in the same spot. yet on another account I lost 7 matches and win 5 yet place 2 tiers higher… makes no sense.
But it’s not about balance anymore it really just comes down to making as much $$ as possible. This game us to be fun. Untill all the things that use to be free (for a game I paid for) now costs $$.
I would have been perfectly happy playing Overwatch and not getting ow2 . They should have actually made an actual Overwatch 2 instead of just making an overwatch patch calling it overwatch 2… because they basically said FU to players who actually paid for the game.
