I like comp, but I stay in QP and arcade due to my inability to use VC. Well, I could be using VC and I have a mic and all that, but my anxiety makes it extremely hard for me to play. I can’t even turn it on and not talk but just listen without anxiety. So I stay out of comp so I don’t ruin other player’s matches.
But I got to thinking and wondering…do others play comp without VC? Is that ok?

I think overall, it comes down to each individual to decide. I never use VC because a). I’m female and suffer from anxiety issues, and on the few occasions that I have talked, my team harass me. (I’m not saying that this is always the case, but a few crappy teammates give all the others a bad name, so I’d rather not bother.)
And b). Rarely do I find other people actually in VC, let alone them actually trying to communicate effectively and work as a team, so I typically just accept the game for me as a solo affair.
No one should pressure you into something you aren’t comfortable with. Whether or not you join VC and communicate with your team should be your decision, and yours alone. But I wouldn’t let that be a reason to not play a game mode you enjoy. Many, MANY people play comp without VC so I wouldn’t let that stop you.

This is why you should use looking for group!
Except that voice chat is broke on ps4
On console its pretty normal to go into comp with no mic and you can do okay depending on your rank.
PC I don’t play comp much, have a mic but too lazy to talk so usually just play QP.
edit I don’t know why this post responded to you but oh well, lol
I’m the same. Except it’s with all audio.
I don’t have trouble in QP but I’m high Bronze in comp.
I also don’t use voice in my games. I think it’s actually been helpful to some degree because it forces me to be more self-reliant and aware
Yes, and it’s perfectly ok to play competitive without team chat. I’ve been playing competitive with no team chat from the start, best way to play the game imo. I do however go into a private chat w/ my friend who I duo queue with.

IMO (everyone disagrees with me) the entire point of competitive is that the ranking system ‘should’ put you where you belong. so if you climb to the highest rank in the game without voice chat, good for you, I do not think it is okay for someone to tell you you do not belong in competitive just because you do not conform to their ideal play style. otherwise competitive would just require voice chat to be active. should people who physically cannot talk never play competitive mode?
in my experience it is mostly important to have at least one person coordinating things in voice chat. other than that, yes there are going to be times when a call out would be helpful, but for a lot of players who are not already naturally attuned to shot calling those opportunities are going to be few and far between. quite frankly the odds are your calls would do just as much harm as good. I can tell you from experience 90% of voice chat, even in competitive, is useless distracting garble.
If you wanna climb the ladder…yes
If you wanna play the ladder…no
Comms only go so far, a bad team is a bad team and there’s no amount of communication that is going to fix that.
If you don’t want to run voice, don’t, it’s not the end of the world. Do your job and profit, or not. The dice roll is essentially the same.

Some people get very heated and will accuse you of throwing. I have bad days where I don’t want to talk to anyone and I don’t even enter VC and I’ve had people go into all chat telling people to report me for trolling. Because if we’re losing and I’m not in voice chat it must be all my fault. Just, be prepared. I’m usually ready to leave the text chats as well.
There are things you miss without voice comms, but heck, I saw a post on here of someone who made it to t500 with no voice chat. It was a “don’t listen to people who say you need voice chat” kind of post. That doesn’t mean everyone can do well, just that it’s possible.
Just remember that this is a fast paced game and if you are a typer or pinger, it may become lost in the chaos of the game. It’s frustrating but it’s the reality of things.
Voice chat is highly overrated in this game.

In lower ranks it’s very rare to get more than two people in vc. Many games I’m the only one. Just don’t play well enough to be in a high rank and you’ll be fine
Don’t even bother using voice tbh callouts don’t matter unless you’re in masters. Comms before that are shabby at best.

I feel the same way. I used to do comp, and I tried using VC but after several toxic games I just gave it up all together. I work in customer service so I routinely get screamed at during work. I don’t want to come home and continue getting screamed at over a video game. I mostly stick to the Arcade and QP and it has definitely helped my anxiety issues.

I immediately mute anyone who’s bitter or yells or is angry or insulting. Not worth it.
9 out of 10 games I don’t use voice chat.
I’m plat and I almost never use voice chat.
I play without voice chat on my dps account, I placed it 2900 sr and -100 hours of play time later it is 3990 peak without voice chat.
No, you don’t need voice chat, but it is extremely helpful to you when you are able to utilize that information that your team gives you.
I play comp everyday for 6 hours without VC.
I haven’t spoken a single word this season (and have joined voice chat i think once or twice) and my comp experience has been amazing. Not in terms of gameplay or ranking up or whatever, but my anxiety has been non-existent. I used to get heart palpitations every time I thought about competitive. I’d have to play an entire session of quick play the day before just to get myself ready for competitive. And even with that mental prep I would need a stress ball and/or fidget cube nearby. This season, I’ve had none of that. I’ve had zero heart palpitations, zero nausea, zero panic attacks, all because I never join voice chat. I sometimes even hide text chat and it’s been so much better. If you don’t want to join voice chat, don’t join voice chat. Hide text chat if you want and enjoy the silence while you focus on your gameplay.
