…will I end up loosing points overtime or will I maintain the rank I have received through the placement matches up until the end of the season? I ask this since I have heard some players say that if you don’t play for a long time, the rank you have will deplete? Is this true?
Yes. If you do not play a full competitive match (after you have been ranked by completing all 10 placement matches) within 7 days, you will lose 25 SR every 24 hours you do not complete a competitive match.
However, playing a match will give you 1.5 days of time back before your SR starts to decay.
You can also find how much time left until decay in the description screen of Competitive Play.
i thought thats only like for a certain rank and higher
That used to be how it worked, but now it affects all ranks. You can also drop out of every rank (except Bronze, of course).
You still receive rewards based on the highest SR achieved that season.
My goodness, good thing I asked…I guess I better get to work then! It sucks, but I guess it must be done…Thank you for your help!
No problem. :3
Just here to help.
Very much appreciated friend! x)
When did they change that? I thought it was only for 3000sr and above.
I don’t know the exact reason for the change. (The change was a few seasons ago, if I remember correctly) However, I believe that the change went through to stop people from ranking and then stop playing Competitive. There was an issue of players playing for the Competitive Points and then stop playing without any repercussions.
For example, a Platinum or even a Diamond player would play all 10 placements, then stop playing Competitive because they were guaranteed that rank with no consequences. Then, next season they could play and still be that rank with no issues and get the rewards.
Now, with the decay on all ranks, it forces people to actually work for higher rewards. That same player will now drop out of Platinum into gold and then they may drop low enough that they rank gold next season because placement matches use your last season SR as a starting point.
Lol literally me right there. But I guess I didn’t notice the decay last season.
That’s why some people wait until the end of he season to do placement matches.
I don’t condone this but people always find workarounds.
Only if you place at Diamond or above (3000 SR + ) will it decay if you don’t play over time.
I thought they added decay for every rank now.
I don’t think so. I haven’t decayed even though I haven’t played in over a week, and I landed in plat.
Maybe I have it wrong then.
I think it’s just that you can fall out of every rank now. I apologize to everyone who saw my previous post.
Yeah, i think that’s the mix-up.
If you fall below to the previous tier (i.e. if I go below 2000 SR), you will keep your gold-tier status unless you lose 5 consecutive games, then you’ll fall below.
I know that rank decay happens in 3000+. Not sure about other ranks, however, when you click to play Competitive and you are in a rank that can decay, you will see information about when your next decay is.
Out of curiosity, how much Sr do you need to reach Plat? I was 2520 something and then I just lost a match, but I didn’t drop to Gold and I am at 2490 something. I thought 25g flat was the minimum for Plat?
Edit: Just checked, I just lost a game and now I am 2497. Shouldn’t I have dropped to Gold? My game says I am still Plat though unless they changed the SR?
There is no decay in lower ranks.
If you are in the main menu of the game and right click on “Competitive” and then click “Tier Legend” you will find all of this information.
You will not decay for inactivity for any rank lower than Diamond. Once you hit 3000 rank, you will only lose SR if you play a match and lose.
2500-2999 is plat rank.
