only your first placements determine your rank, the rest is just basically normal games where you can’t see your SR
they’re not a shortcut to higher ranks, just because you won 9 games doesn’t mean you deserve 1000+ SR, it’s more like 200-300

Until an MMR reset comes out, your placements are basically just normal matches.
It’s a misnomer even for your first 10 games. “Placements” aren’t actually any different from normal matches. The only difference is that your rank is hidden until you complete them. Your first 20 or so games ever feature increased SR/MMR movement, but this is unrelated to “placement” matches.
If you win every placement, you’ll be 200-300 SR higher than where you left off last time.
you can earn up to 1000 SR, maybe even a bit more in your first placements, dafran for example placed in masters on his soldier only account recently
and you can definitely drop as low as 1500ish SR too
actually the first 3 or so games have a massive impact on your placements
