I can’t win in comp anymore. The population has dropped so much that it’s mostly stacks in comp. Worse, it’s usually one stack against a bunch of solos or a duo. I kept seeing same people over and over so I started asking chat and I almost never have a stack on my team and the opponent does nearly 100%.
It doesn’t matter how good you are at that point, the stack will mop up. Played a few comp tonight and hit rolled every game by double digits. This isn’t sustainable. So many teammates say they too keep quitting and checking back once a week to see if it’s better. It gets worse.
I DON’T want to play against stacks. Let SOLOS have their own queue. I don’t care if it’s a 5 or 10 minute wait. PS5 comp is almost unplayable as a solo. They’ve gotta do something. This isn’t working.
PC is not much better. OW1 MM was better for solo q because at least you were matched with people well within your skill tier. But once OW2 came out as free to play AND they widened q tiers you can be matched with (to shorten q times), the quality of games went into the ground.
As mid-high plat in OW1 I rarely queued with anyone in gold as a solo. Now that happens every few games or so. And the smurfing is rampant. You know the ones - level 1 or 2 endorsement, played at most 4 seasons with 10 - 20 games on a role, hardly missing shots, < 5 hours on any given hero but playing multiple heroes like they’re diamond or above and rolling our team, etc. I get games like that often, sometimes 2 or 3 in a stack.
I play OW because I like competitive games and pitting my skill against others. But when you’re playing against 1 or more players with a skill level well above your team’s, it takes the fun out of the game. Especially when your rank is solely determined off wins and losses, as opposed to your performance like other games (take Apex for example).
I don’t think you’re wrong with everything you say, on the contrary you’re right about quite a bit of it(not all, but more than people give you credit for) but with that being said bro, the demeanor of which you present it all comes off like you have no issue with overwatch at all. So let me ask bluntly, do you think overwatch is perfectly fine, fair, and balanced with no changes needed. And last question, do you think ow1 or ow2 is superior (prior to goats and double shield meta) and why?
If I have a couple of matches that I didn’t enjoy, I stop playing. If you are getting annoyed or upset over a video game, something is wrong on your end.
Perfectly fine - no, but it is fine.
Fair - yes, everyone is treated the same by the games systems.
Balanced - no. balance is a myth.
Changes - I can think of plenty I’d like to see.
OW1 was a more fun team match at times, OW2 is better matches in general. OW1 higher peaks, OW2 more consistent.
I can say fair enough, on most of what you said because most of it is just an opinion and everyone has the freedom to form their own I guess, but I must point out that I disagree with the mentality of “it’s just a video game” so getting upset over anything about it is silly type of vibe. People pay good money for these games and it is that very same community of people that give the developers a reason to exist. We can’t all get everything we want, sure, but I’d say the paying customer should be the focus. If the paying customer payed at a time when they were happy with the dynamics of the game and then get it changed on them…it’s reasonable to be upset. I payed for overwatch when it originally came out, and it was changed on me many many many times over. People are passionate about their games and there isn’t anything wrong with that. It’s a free to play game now, yeah, sure…and it’s arguably a different game now…yeah…sure…so what did I pay for? A limited time game? I think it’s ok to be a little frustrated with that.
If you are, don’t play. It is a free game, if you are giving them money and time, they’ve already got what they want. They won’t care if you are upset about a bad match.
I’m not frustrated with a singular bad match I’m frustrated with a string of poor balance decisions. I’m frustrated with how long the game has been out without the implementation of certain game features that the community has been asking for since ow1. I’m frustrated they made ow2 under false pretense’s and then scrapped everything and arguably gave us a game that isn’t as fun to play. I say arguably, because it’s obviously subjective but that is what I think. That’s my stance and opinion and can’t nobody tell me it’s not correct for me. I don’t pay anything into the game anymore and haven’t since maybe season 5. I think I bought the battle pass ONE TIME and realized it wasn’t even worth it and never again. Plenty of other people support the game with their money though. Anybody can have a bad match bro. And I don’t know expect blizzard to care if we have a bad match. I expect them to care about the other things I mentioned though. I am aware, at this point it is unlikely, but it doesn’t mean it ain’t a shame.
That is where you are wasting your time. Balance patches won’t please everyone… when it isn’t for you, other games are calling.
Probably because they aren’t useful, or worth the time. Perhaps. The community rarely knows best (especially this forum).
They didn’t make it under any false pretense. They made it and tried to deliver it as intended. OW1 was tanking hard, so they had to push the PvP stuff out before it was ready. And PvE, certain people kept moving the goal posts and it eventually became a bad business decision to carry on with it. (any one who claims they were lying about it is clueless).
Good. It means you can just pick it up and put it down as you please without worry.
The game is everything I expected it to be. Fine. Everything they’ve done, they asked the player base about in surveys a couple of years before OW2 came out. Nothing about it is surprising. It is a liver service game, don’t expect the world.
The shop is pointless, and over priced. Yet far cheaper that other games out there.
A more extensive in-game implemented tutorial/guide would be useful. Some type of clan/guild/team system would be useful. The experimental they used to do were a good idea. Those are gone. Idk why(perhaps you know why they removed that). 1-3-2 was not explored enough, barely scratched the surface on that, they never rebalanced it after the first implementation of it to even see if it could be viable. 1 main tank 1 off tank limitation would have solved double shields issue provided you only allow one shield tank to be viable at a time. Easy. There is only 1 reason they can’t make a arcade mode for ow1(I suggested the idea of recreating certain seasons for ow1 in arcade a while back) so at least people could play the old game for fun in arcade…except that it would shine the light on which game was more fun to play. I don’t think they would like that very much. But I can’t see if they threw out a survey for that one people wouldn’t want to play ow1 for fun in arcade? I bet most would. Those that haven’t played it before would b curious. Those that miss it would be happy. And everyone else still has ow2 to play.
Would it require some time and resource perhaps. Pretty sure Microsoft can provide them that at this point.
Agree. Always thought this could improve the new player experience. But makes zero difference to me now.
Agree. But Discord servers work fine.
Good on paper, but failed to achieve the results they wanted as no one played them (hence doing the hacked events instead).
By us. They said they tested loads for well over a year. There is a reason they landed on 5v5. But as with everything, no decision they made on that was going to please everyone.
Given that Microsoft are closing studios and triming costs… I doubt it will be anytime soon.
They are debating whether to put CoD on Gamepass at launch. Most of them don’t want to as they will miss out on A LOT of revenue. Just for an example of how much penny pinching and dollar chasing their gaming division is doing atm.
What you have to remember is the cost of making games has gone up exponentially in recent years… but the actual market of gamers buying games hasn’t grown in 10-15 years. There will be more stupid closures and job losses in the gaming industry over the next year or so, as they over stretched during COVID assuming they could retain that market. They didn’t.
Hey there, I’m a fellow PS5 console player. The majority of the time I am playing comp in a stack. However, I do from time to time solo queue, and can attest to the fact that it is possible to win. Now don’t get me wrong there are definitely some matches where a loss is “almost guaranteed.” I say this in parenthesis because it is very hard to win when you’re down a teammate but not impossible! (My team almost got crushed when one of the opposing team’s players left, we got too cocky almost lost the game. We were scrambling at the end to still pull the W)
Mind sharing your comp ranks with me? I might have some advice for you based off your rank. Otherwise if you would like to queue up together, my group is looking for a fifth person to add to our roster.
I also play on console, but on Xbox. My current rank depends on the account. My original main account is this one, and I think I may have gotten in it low plat a couple times back in ow1 but for the most part it’s hard stuck in gold. I did place diamond on support one season on an alt I’ve since lost access too because I lost my information but that could definitely just have been luck, who knows, all I know is I have not touched diamond in any capacity since. However I have at least two other accounts that I have been able to get into plat, not only did I get them in plat but I placed them in plat and hit plat 1 on DPS, plat 3 on tank and I think low plat if I remember correctly for support. No, I don’t throw. No, I don’t derank. And I’m certainly not smurfing. I do my best on whatever account I’m playing on. I’m not sure I need advice…but what do I know…maybe I’m wrong. Maybe there is something you can say that will just click with me and suddenly I’ll go on a massive climbing streak. Lol feel free to try if you’d like. As for joining your group to game. I’m always down to grab new friend or play the game with people but I must disclaimer it with the fact I play infrequently now compared to what I used to do when I peaked plat 1. I’m a busy working adult busy life just not a lot of time to grind.
From OW1 the matchmaker has gone through several changes.
You’re right, they have narrowed the grouping to 2 skill tiers. But that doesn’t really matter when smurfs are taken into account, which is undetectable with the current system.
I’m not mad about it - it is what it is. I know I have room to improve and try my best to do so, especially in those games. But that doesn’t make my (and many others) experience a fallacy.
