Comp is a waste of time that makes your vision of the game far worse

So this isnt exclusive to this game, in general you have whats basically a social ladder, and good sportmanship towards the lower ranks is a bigger lie than the earth being flat. Having fun in competitive with random people online is the hardest thing I have ever seen someone trying to accomplish, some crazy wizards are able to do it but if you are a worthless muggle like me, gooooooooood luck.
The most I have accomplished is plat on OQ and gold on support, and even if my team wins every single match feels like torture. And of course you are supposed to be a nice player in an envirorment of EZs and smurfs.
“If you don’t like comp don’t play, stupid” I’ve been told, but I HAVE to play comp otherwise I won’t have a rank and tryhards in qp and arcade will judge me for it. Should I just silence everyone? Of course, don’t listen to your teammates on a team based game, brilliant.
I honest to God hope that Overwatch 2 comes out, cuz non canonical pvp was made only so that Blizzard could be in the esports market, I don’t feel any passion on it like on better games (coughtf2cough).
Honestly, it might have been a novelty back then but people online don’t have any sort of sportsmanship and good will, not here not on most pvp games. The only way to have fun is to play with friends, but timezones and actual irl responsabilities make that hard.
I will fight anyone on it: pvp and specially comp should be completely dead and I’m glad that Blizzard is focusing on pve and an actual story for these wonderful characters.

I still enjoy comp very much. OW is the only game I play competitively and I’ve been playing FPS games since they existed. I like it because it’s the only current FPS out there where the winner isn’t decided by which team has one person who can click the best. I love that it takes many skill sets and I love coming together with strangers of various skill sets to make things work. Wins in OW are most of the best PvP experiences I’ve ever had. Also, I just think the core gameplay is 10/10 and I never get tired of it (have played since beta).

I’d suggest getting in voice chat and trying to engage with your team. It won’t always work but I think you’ll have a better time if you try.

Try not to focus on your SR or people who might be smurfs/toxic/etc. Just do the best you can and try to build your own skill up. That’s supposed to be part of the fun. For example, I fell to plat on Damage this season after spending almost all of my OW career in masters+ but this season is some of the most fun I’ve had anyway because I’ve been getting better at heroes I wasn’t great with (Echo, Fist, and trying to get good at them lost me lots of games at first, ha) and I’ve had lots of good games. This game is what you make of it.

How can you be so positive about it? For real, I need to know cuz all you have said has been a lie in my personal experience, and I’m not new I’ve been playing long enough to have a silver one star portrait.
One good sniper or Pharah or Torbs has gotten their team a win while everyone else performed suboptimally, every time I go into vc I get people insulting eachother and little collaboration, and core gameplay mechanics while integral pert of the character ensure that you see the game more as a chore and less like, you know, a game.

I will give you this tho: other than comp seeing the Victory screen is pretty damm rewarding, as well as having your own play of the game so there’s that.

I think it’s just because I tend to analyze my own play more than what my teammates did wrong. Like, it’s obvious when they made a bad hero pick or something but there’s nothing I can do about that if they refuse to fix it so I just look for ways to fix things myself. I see it as part of the challenge. There’s always something I could’ve done better.

The only things that truly get to me are throwers/leavers, which don’t happen as much as they used to. I’m on console and we didn’t have a report system at all when the game launched so it used to be way worse.

Also, I have spent most of my time in this game at masters+ (peaked at 4114 and hit T500 one season :slightly_smiling_face:) so that might be part of it. I’m told the low-ranked experience is pretty awful but I’m generally playing with people who know what they’re doing and are trying to win.

I’ve always had to solo queue in comp because my friends aren’t at a high enough SR to queue with me but I like trying to work with strangers. Maybe I’m just weird.

Nope
You ain’t weird
You are lucky, you better appreciate that

And yes, I will admit a part of my bad experiences come from being harsh on my mistakes, which has turned many pvp matches into actual chores. I should relax more but I don’t have that liberty cuz if I do I either fail or people will notice and hate me for it, and hell if I don’t want that.

I don’t expect to be the best like you, but I aspire to be a functional respectful member while having teammates and enemies do the same. But not every dream comes true.

I am glad you enjoy yourself tho, that’s… nice

I personally really enjoy comp, I have no issues with it other than the occasional 3 stack of Diamond+ smurfs that deranked with open profiles.

I used to have an awful attitude towards this game when I first started playing. I was “one of those” that I now mute and avoid the moment they open their mouths. I was one of those that deserved to be perma banned from this game. I honestly believe that I was like the most toxic player ever.

Was one of those who, before RQ, would say “no shield no heals”, “we have Torb/Sym/Bastion on attack, gg go next”.

I mostly blame it on my rough start in this game. Fell into a wrong crowd when I started playing and literally did not know any better. Did not know how the game works, how smth should be played, and got stuck with Gold/Plat border Bronze players who every single game we played, yelled and trashtalked their teammates every time they died.

Luckily got out of that group of players, started watching coaching videos, higher ranked players playing and started focusing on myself alone. Deleted everyone on my friend’s list (now it is empty, I literally have no one on my friend’s list), decided to only solo Q, and it worked best for me. I am not saying that you have to do same, only said what worked for me best. Something else might work better for you.

Also the most important thing I personally learned is, the less you expect of your teammates, the less you will tilt and you will enjoy the game more, and you will push yourself even without realizing it to compensate for whatever it is that your team is lacking at that particular moment or match or game. You will find yourself improving without noticing it. You will notice it later.

This 100% is true. I’m bronze and they are everywhere. I have seen them get banned at high ranks yet nothing is done in low ranks. Guess blizz just wants this game to die.

Yes, its is best. I mean the call-outs are the only reason to be in vc. Utterly no point in being in text chat so some 9 year old or vaping man-child can type “EZ” after a roll or worse, a 99/100 good game. I finally decided the call-outs didn’t make up for the rest of the toxicity which is the asking price.

Comp is so bad now due to the literally tens of thousands of accounts they gave away through OWL, and the sale prices its just an unending sea of alts which is making QP unplayable, and Comp now feels like what QP used to.

Violet solo queued to the top of the game never entering vc, you can avoid vc. I agree with some of the coaches, just avoid vc until Masters and focus on your game.

This sounds like a you problem.

Given that the game is going 5v5 there’s going to be a different comp engine and hopefully a better matchmaker/SR skill rating. This means there’s going to be a reset in comp (It better be a full reset Scott/Jeff). This should mean that skill levels will be judged a crap ton better than what they currently are and they should throw that everyone starting in gold garbage idea in the trash.
