Me in 45 minutes:
âtotally not worth itâ
Objectively it is, if so many people cite morality as a reason to oppose it.
People cited morality based on the Bible to justify slavery in the USâŚ
And people cited morality, based on the Bible, to justify ending slavery in the US.
Paws, remember that in the US they had something called slave bible.
It was the bible version with all the parts of it that could be interpreted as something that even remotely suggested that slavery isnât a good thing cut out.
But stuff like âslaves obey your mastersâ were kept in.
But the people chose to change, even fought for it the arabs dont seem to mind the way it is and until that changes nothing will happen, certainly not by anyone here.
Yes.
My point is that people contesting something as being âmoralâ doesnât make it up for debate.
Thereâs no debate if slavery is moral, itâs something thatâs blatantly obvious to us now. However, this wasnât always the case.
In the same vein, restricting people from being allowed to exist as who they are is immoral.
Attempting to force an entire culture to change to our morality doesnât always work. It has in the past, look at Japan and Germany as two great examples, but itâs also failed entirely, like in Afghanistan.
The only way to export our morality onto another culture is for them to be receptive of it. Germany and Japan were highly civilized countries and peoples, that were willing to change and redeem themselves. Afghanistan was a whole different scenario.
You donât follow news coming out of many countries in the middle east, do you?
I follow almost every current war, conflicts and international incidents daily but admit I dont check for lgbt news if thats what you mean.
As a bisexual nonbinary arab I agree.
But also, add a Palestinian flag.
Hot take, but no. Even an evil act can be a morally good one, depending on the situation. You may disagree, but, âDesperate times do call for desperate measures.â, âThe ends justify the means.â.
In war, both sides use POWs to do manual labor, to aid their side. Thatâs like definitively slavery.
sure, but lets not leave out the blatant differences, those countries were forced into an unconditional surrender, the countries constitutions re-written and forcibly occupied.
now whether its good or bad isnt my decision, but we must look more than just a linear set of examples
Was Afghanistan not occupied for 20 years by the US? We even installed our own US friendly government. But a large portion of the people never accepted it and continued their fight against us until we left.
You can say that yeah, Afghanistan was never 100% under control like Germany and Japan were, so I can concede a bit on that point, but thatâs in large part due to the differences in society between those two and Afghanistan.
And I guess there was also a level of commitment difference, from the USâs side.
Wait, holâ up. Did I just read this right: âYou have the right to be gay.â?!?!
A ârightâ? You may want to reword that dawg lmao.
After the past few days on these forums with some of these threads Iâm gonna make sure I have plenty of popcorn ready for the weekend PepeLaugh
As a Scot that is my country history too, we got took over by the English it kind of works life is ok but I often dream how Scotland would have been if we kept our own language our own ways, our independence hence my stance of let the people of the countries decide.
In war, horrific acts are done. Acts that fall outside of the basic awful things that happen involving combat.
This is probably the worst example you couldâve pulled.
did afghanistan unconditionally surrender? no, the ruling faction (taliban) went into hiding and waged a 20 year guerilla warfare (which they won)
im not sure you are fully comprehending what an unconditional surrender entails, and thats fine, for most of us, we have never witnessed anything like that, but i do think we will very, very soon
the us never 100% controlled germany, germany was split, east and west. common man, this is basic history
Donât we still have indirect slavery today through the prison industrial complex? I can admit to not being entirely educates on this topic in recent (decades) years.
