Colosseo is a terrible map

Might be one of the worst maps you’ve released in a while, to me its on par with havana and junkertown.
absolutely terrible.

It’s the orange, isn’t it? I agree.

Yeah… I really don’t like it either.

They really are great at making maps go from Earth to Mars with how orange it can get. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Yeah I’ve only played it a couple times but quickly determined it was stupid and I hated it.

Illios is so orange, you can glue carrots onto walls and most players won’t even notice it.

no I just think it’s a terrible map in terms of design.

I hated Illios before the map change, the orange made my hatred even better

It’s way too open for my taste, is it that?

too open, too long, spawns are super weird, certain points when pushing the robot are just painful.
It’s the map and push that both suck in my opinion.

Colosseo, Junkertown, Havana…hm, I wonder which character is siphoning all the fun out of your games.

That’s by design. If it was super easy to push the robot everywhere, then it might get even more snowbally.

i dont mind it much…

since i play widow quite a bit

you should see some of kephrii widow vids on that map. he does some widow tech shots that are just completely insane

yea your right about the spawn thing. i actually hate how your playing a run simulator with all the push maps

It’s pretty bad.

Push already feels like a completely one-sided mode 90% of the time. Typically whatever team pushes it past the first checkpoint first is going to win the match. It’s just really tough to take the bot across the map to your barricade without engaging in another teamfight.

You basically need to win the teamfight TWICE to actually make progress on pushing your barricade.

The issues of Push become extremely apparent on Colosseo as well. The second spawn is wayyy too far away from the action, sightlines are insanely long, and the awkward spiral part after the 1st CP is really hard to push through, there’s just so many engagement areas for the defending team to take the fight that you’re going to get bombarded from every angle and it’s hard to keep up with.

I’d honestly say getting Colosseo is on par with getting Paris or HLC in OW1. It feels awful.

It’s not Push itself or the long walks, because New Queen’s Street is fine and also has those.

I think it’s the all-or-nothing feel of pushing it. I’ve seen games where the robot doesn’t even get out of the starting hallway for like 5 minutes, then it’s crossing the bridge to the final zone before you can even blink. That areas where it crosses under the bridge allows the pushers to easily hold on top of the bridge while they leave 1 person with the bot and just drop down if Defense starts gaining ground. This position also allows the pushers to see where anyone coming out of spawn is going so unless theres a sombra you can’t just sneak down to the robot either.

The starting area is just so cramped with weird sightlines. Simultaneously feels exposed AND like theres too much cover.

Also getting the bad spawn (ie your team caps a checkpoint right after you respawn) feels more punishing here than on NQS where there are plenty of routes to walk straight to the other side, but they’re less clear and fast on this map. And while i’m not quite sure where it is but I feel like the forward spawn isn’t even that much closer? don’t hold me to that though.

Definitely the worst of the new maps so far and by no small margin.

I think it’s alright. I like Toronto a lot better though. I’d probably put Colosseo in low B tier. In terms of visuals, though, it’s an amazing map.

Tbh I don’t really see that as a problem, since that’s two different objectives you’re trying to accomplish; Taking the Bot, then Pushing the Barricade. Winning the first fight is already denying the other team time pushing. the distance they already made is your punishment for having let them take the bot in the first place.

What makes this harder on Colosseo than New Queen Street is that on NQS, Defense will consistently have high ground, while this is only true for a short stretch on Colosseo.

Why you don’t apply for map designer job in blizzard? Since your and other people designer skills os better than actual designers…

I actually dislike the Toronto map more than Colosseo. Not saying that to discredit you, I’m just surprised to hear that this map is the one that is disliked more.

What about it is bad? I want to understand - maybe I’m not seeing something that’s really obvious.

He’d probably do a better job. How Blizzard didn’t learn their lesson from Havana and Junkertown is mind boggling. Designing wide open maps with massive sightlines is nonsense in terms of balance.

Both maps are fine. People just complaining about not matching new color design. If replace lightmaps with something like midday/sunset will solve the “problem”
