Sometimes the game switches Enemy and Ally colors for a match. It happens randomly and not too often, resetting back to my actual settings after the match has completed.
This creates a problem that combines nightmarishly with another problem: not being able to change Alert and Group colors. Let me explain.
First, my settings. Since Group and Alert are locked Green and Orange respectively, Enemy cannot be Green or Orange. Yellow is too similar to Green and Orange, so the Enemy cannot be Yellow. Red isn’t an option either, because many maps are green or brown and we all know how that goes…
This leaves a range of blues and purples, which are terrible colors for the Enemy outline. They aren’t distinguishable or alerting enough and many maps incorporate similar colors. The only color of these that really stands out is Aqua, and it hardly stands out.
This makes the best color for Ally Yellow. Unfortunately, this makes Ally, Alert, and Group appear to be the same color in such a fast paced game.
Ideally, Enemy would be Yellow, Ally+Group would be Blue, Alert would be Aqua or something. I don’t need to differentiate between Ally and Group - we’re all allies in a group. Enemies would be easily distinguishable, like they must be for non-colorblind people using Blue and Red.
Now onto the nightmare. When the bug activates and the team colors swap, my Group and Alert colors remain Green and Orange, but my Enemy becomes Yellow. Remember: to me, these colors all appear practically the same. So when this happens to me while I’m in a 6-stack of Green Group friends and the Enemy is now Yellow, all 12 players are outlined the same color through my eyes.
This is worse than being colorblind without colorblind mode. The random color swapping needs to be fixed, but we also need to be allowed to change Group and Alert. Otherwise, us colorblind people are being pigeonholed into using specific color schemes that are less than ideal. Please, Blizzard. We’re so close!
