COINS IN THE BATTLEPASS, it finally happened

It’s finally happened
You no longer earn coins through weekly challenges
Instead you earn 600 coins each season through the free battlepass

there are even more coins in the premium battlepass, but it wasn’t specified how many (edit: Actually now this is uncertain. It sounds like that’s what they said in the blogpost but they contradicted it elsewhere)

Starting Season 10, you will earn coins as you progress through the Free and Premium tracks of the Battle Pass, making them easier and more consistent to earn. We’re also increasing the number of coins you can earn for free from 540 to 600 coins per season.
Weekly challenges will be more flexible to fit with your playstyle, and they will now reward Battle Pass XP.

The best thing from that dev update tbh. Now everyone can just play as they like to earn coins instead of grinding challenges that force playstyles/roles/modes they don’t enjoy.

Wonder what the catch will be though. Longer Battlepass? More expensive? Maybe we’ll need to use coins to buy mythic currency?

Yea, I am curious if the paid bpass is still 10 bucks, and if so, can I still get all the customization of the mythic skin through that paid bpass. I imagine we are losing out on something, if they are suddenly giving coins in the bpass, the free one too not even just paid. Unless its like 200 coins in total in the bpass or something.

Bruh, 600 coins is nothing when a new legendary skin costs 1900 coins lmao

Increase the value of coins that can be received or lower the skin prices.

that might mean even shorter tank queues if you look at it a certain way, also longer dps queues and maybe bit more for support heh

it’s certainly fantastic that coining finally makes sense with the gameplay of the battle pass, but I don’t want to be defeatist, I won’t consider it a total victory for the community if an absolutely important factor in this monetization revolution doesn’t change:

Fair prices :hand_with_index_finger_and_thumb_crossed:

I don’t forget at all that the bundle offers concern many minor objects with which they are combined whose single price is terribly high. Will player cards and icons (literally very small digital images) still cost 300 coins? and will there still be a shameful sale of souvenirs (aka, recycled emotes) and charms at 700 coins?

But above all the value of the skins: the recolors that are sold with the full prices of OW2 skins? fake legendary skins like Moira mime? And the special offer of the month that nullifies full-price purchases with no duplication refunds? (twitch drops, prime gaming rewards, etc.) this problem must also be considered, otherwise we haven’t really solved anything.

To be fair its a start in the right direction. its better than nothing or going backwards. it took them this long to listen to people wanting coins in the pass, so maybe, just maybe in another 10 seasons they will lower shop prices or put more coins in the pass

The only number of Overwatch coins needed in the battle pass is the same amount required to unlock the next one. Players need to pay for skins out of pocket and show their loyalty to Blizzard!
:triumph:

You know things are bad when you have ppl getting excited over coins in a BP :see_no_evil:

It’s a step in the right direction. At least the devs and their management teams have caught up to mobile gaming.

Now if they learn to lower their prices they can catch up to the rest of the F2P market

Its big, because it was:

  1. Not the case before
  2. The BP is fast and easy to complete

So thats why some people think they might making it longer or more expensive. I think most people complete the BP in around 2-3 weeks.

But keep whining.

Yes, there’s more to this than what was said in the update. The weekly challenges, incentivized with free coins, was one of the major cornerstones of their strategy to lower queue times. If they’re rejigging this system, there will be more changes that haven’t been announced yet. From what I’ve read, they may be making the battlepass a lot harder to complete, where we will need to bang out weeklies for the exp boost or risk not making it to the end.

The weeklies were bloating support queues more than anything. The assists one takes at least 10 games of support to finish

Yea, something has got to give. Personally I am fine with the bpass taking longer since we get coins. And I play enough to easily complete it. But I guess we shall see in the coming weeks.

Bruh, they deliberately didn’t include coins from the start just so they can see with what they can get away with. It should have been like that on day one. There is nothing to be praising them for.

Yeah, you can buy one legendary in 8 months (4 seasons) lol.

I pity the F2P players, Blizz always did them dirty like every mobile games everywhere. But instead of being a mobile game, this one is a fully fledged PC and console game.

That is insult to mobile games. They are way more generous than OW will ever be and I am not even kidding.
The content of free stuff in some mobile games is just insane.

So they make BP from $10 to $5.

Oh right, i forgot that mobile games allowed you to earn premium currency by “watching” ads repeatedly.
