EDIT (Regarding closure/abandonment) Seriously most of the “help” I get from here are from elitist snobs who love critisizing so badly they completely derail the topic to offer their “help”. Most of these higher ranked people responding seem to believe that Rank in OverWatch reflects their skills in coaching or people skills when they are bronze in those areas failing to read what i’ve written, concluding things based of assumptions or some foresight in my mind they believe they have.
Higher ranked players never really cared about other players anyway, that’s WHY they create smurfs to begin with soley so they can **** on other players and/or rather risk disrupting the other ranks than play QP or risk their own rank (which means more to them).
I had this happen a couple days ago. I was getting 50% kill participation and so on. I felt I was being punished for not trickling in like everyone else. Like the game was mad I had won too many games. Like it’s my fault they put Diamonds on one team and Bronze/Silvers on the other. I don’t know if they have AI which looks at damage per engagement or accuracy or not playing the meta. It just feels wrong all over.
You’re comparing your stats vs low silvers to that of GMs vs other GMs? What’s the point of that? You’re skilled like a silver. A replay which does not include chat or voice cannot be “toxic.” People here will help you improve if you want.
Also, your team’s predicted win % has an effect on your gains/losses. If you lose a game because the crazy high MMR smurf was throwing on your team that game, you might lose upper 20s even if you perform well, because Blizzard expected your team to win and you didn’t.
The only way for an impartial third party opinion to be formed is if you post a replay. Yes people in a private discord somewhere might happen to make fun of you or other people in the match, but who cares what those nerds think?
It’s toxic because in my experience people
who offered me to “help mr improve” seemed like they had good intentions but use the replay as an opportunity to talk smack (Even the one who was offering me coaching lessons) and just reinforce that you “play silver” knowing that you are silver so it’s an obvious thing you could get away with. Plus they might not even be skilled with character or know many of the tactics regarding them such as a previous review I had for supposed masters on all ranks but did not know what prefight repair back buffers were with Brig (the very popular technique). Replays are way too easy to criticize sounds superior after the fact because they don’t provide any proof or your own replays with the same character and it’s just a bunch of talk from what I’ve seen. I’m not saying to some of these people aren’t masters or good, it just tends to be egotistical and I really don’t like that.
Yeah that’s a good point on the predicted win percentage, but honestly the game in which I lost it didn’t seem like we had the upper hand at all, we got pretty freaking stomped. Team was all over the place getting pushed back at spawn and captured no points, This is why I know I’m not the only one who did bad there, and If MMR measures how good you did that round you can’t help but do bad when you’re losing so badly, everyone does bad on the loss, that’s why losing happens. The game which we won was CP 2 to 1 with the matches that we did win were pretty big wins and the enemy got almost no percentage, and actually think I did pretty good I was surprised to see 18 SR.
Do you think that maybe you’re taking coaching criticism too personally? I’m trying to be critical of my own replays and I can see sometimes where I don’t get punished for mistakes I make because at the level I’m playing in people can’t take advantage of them.
No what I mean by talking smack isnt that they just were pointing out my flaws That’s expected of a review It’s that they were literally just making fun of me and saying yeah I played bad you suck and this and that. Going over the top with pointing out mistakes.
Not write expect from a coach especially on the first impression maybe later on if we were comfortable with each other that be cool but too much for the initial introduction
Unfortunately that’s kinda the risk you take when asking for feedback or coaching in almost anything. Some people just say “you’re bad/did wrong” instead of giving advice while using examples.
Not a reason to stop trying, just something to be aware of.
I know, I’ve I’ve seen Stylosa’s reviews and they’re pretty professional even though he’s a little harsh at times it’s still to the point. Just at the experiences I’ve had I’ve just been really bad and put me in a really bad mood afterwards for even trusting people with my replays and I’m already pretty critical of myself.
That and another thing I don’t like about replays is it lacks the context sometimes they point out a decision that they think is stupid but there’s also a reason I did it that they’re unaware of cuz it’s different playing the game and seeing it afterwards where you could obviously see the path you should have taken.
The people who review replays on this forum from what I’ve seen so far I’m not saying I’ve seen many, The ones that I’ve seen tend to point out mistakes that are kind of fork in road decisions which have gone wrong and only come obvious once the play is actually done. Then some stuff is a bit excessive realistically players not perfect either there is always something you could have done better and that’s pretty much what I feel everyone points out. Of course it’s still valid advice but it’s also a little bit unrealistic and expectations for somebody to be performing at perfect levels
Anyway I guess a question I could ask is does anybody have any tips how not to lose so much SR when playing Brig, or support for that matter?
I generally prefer Jayne when it comes to coaching content. Plus his tips are fairly generally applicable to anyone watching.
Idk about Brig specifically but for most supports one thing I can think of is try not to get tunnel visioned. Happens to a lot of players below plat including myself (and even above but less often I would think). I can’t say too much without being familiar with how you play as an individual but the general idea is to limit deaths while having as much input/uptime as you feel you reasonably can. That means finishing targets and getting chip damage when you see the opportunity, while keeping your team off of critical health of course, in the case of Brig having as much inspire uptime definitely could come into play. It’s bard to be too specific but just maximizing your input as much as you can.
Not every coach is good, just keep trying. I am not pro coach but I can try to help you if you post replay code. I promise i will not be making fun of you.
If you are open to it, contact me here if you use discord.

Eh really? Using stylosa as example of good coach? He is frequently laughing at players mistakes. I stopped watching his “coaching” videos because of it.
He is, Probably enough I don’t even find this kind of thing to be offensive. maybe because it’s voiced over and you could tell that there’s a playfulness to it whereas if somebody writes it in text it sounds serious.
I don’t feel confused enough by the game or what’s happening in the sense of in-game scenarios that I feel with warrants a replay review right now. Really I’m more curious about the MMR stuff how to not have it work so much against me.
MMR will work against you in your elo when your performance in games is not good enough. If your performance is average you will be losing and gainng like 21-25, lower or high is usualy indication of under performing or over performing.
What do you say to my offer? I can try to help you. If you are serious about climbing.
Well I have seen reviews being more relevant to personal mistakes like if I felt I didn’t know how to overcome a certain match or what was wrong then I feel like I would benefit from a review. I don’t feel like there’s many secrets to how to play Brig, even watching someone like Violet doesn’t reveal much.
In terms of MMR compared to what? What is the average I’m supposed to be getting in games like where we got stomped I doubt anybody got an good “average” but I expected it to be kind of like college testing or they take the class average and bump up the percentages (I forget what it’s called)
It doesnt have to be mistakes, maybe you just dont take opportunitues or dont punish enemy players when you should. Maybe you dont play enough, maybe you switch when you should not. It can be many things. I am not pro coach but I can check your gameplay, I did many reviews for players in low ranks in past, maybe i will see something you need to work on. I gave you discord, you can contact me there.
Compared to average performance with your hero at your rank.
Even if you are stomped, your sr losy should not go above 26 or 27. Not if your performance is on same level consistently in other games.
I mean I dont think my stats are that bad for silver according to this site “platwatch DOT com/player/na/xbl/H0110H”
My average stats (Brig) aren’t too far from what a GM player averages and in terms of damage blocked I even surpass everyone. My movie spelled like MMR has always been hurting me more than helping and Well I know that stats aren’t really that reliable realistically however this AI calculates it is going to be usage of stats. It’s pretty hard to program an AI that recognize situations with a human understanding in programming than you would think so I’m pretty sure majority of its mmr skill level calculations are stat based just like their play of the games.
I just checked overbuff and it says I only have 14 hours played on brig and when reality I have over 125 hours played on her
stats that are on Plat watch look more like the stats that are accessible through the Overwatch game, idk wtf overbuff calculate this info but at least I have a smaller death average on it 🤷
If you lost 38 SR in a game… you’re either deep in volatility or lost a game the matchmaker felt you never should have lost. Losing even 25 is a massive SR loss and you’re over 50% more than that.
It sounds more like you’re trying to blame teammates than taking onus for your issues.
Bull(bleep). GM stats to Silver stats are apples to Macbooks. They might share the same name but have nothing else in common. Barring the maps/heroes a GM game and Silver game share nothing in common. If we put you in GM (or me!), our stats would plummet because the pressure is wolds apart. That is why comparing your stats in a training field versus actual combat are irrelevant even if mathematically similar.
