Starting at the first game that doesn’t get cancelled.
9:37 - You did most all that you could here to help your team since your D.va was still in spawn as the match began and only grouped with your team once the fight was effectively over, I like the Rez on your McCree as it gave your team a fighting chance here if your Rein was able to hold out a little longer. If your D.va was actually there it would have been a lot more winnable that it was on that first point.
9:59 - I wouldn’t guardian angel towards their team here but you don’t get hit and pull off a super jump to give you a better view of the point and your options here. I think you could get punished here flying towards the point with low health at higher ranks in a similar situation.
10:05 - While it might seem best to heal your injured McCree here, your best chance is staying with your Pharah because she’ll best help keep you alive. Your McCree is already low and will take around 2.5-3.0 seconds to heal to full here and is walking towards the point, his chances of dying are very high. He dies and you have lost track of your Pharah which gives you no escape options here. Not that you had much of a chance paired with your Pharah, but it was a higher chance.
10:09 - This is a fine time to die as it will get you back to your spawn and allow you to position before the enemy team is trying to take the 2nd point. If you tried to delay your death to the point of them capturing the first point and then getting caught, you could be staggered if they rushed the 2nd point quickly. I’m sure you already know this, but just putting it out there.
10:12 - Your D.va is legit throwing so far, that’s rough.
10:39 - I notice you’re alternating between healing and damage boosting often, I’m not sure if that’s the optimal strategy, I keep it on one or the other for usually a few seconds and switch when I think it’s best. If it works for you keep doing it but I think it’s generally better if say, for example, your Pharah is at full health and you just damage boost her, or your Pharah is low and you just heal her (for a few seconds at least).
10:54 - It looks like you tried to guardian angel up to the high ground here but didn’t have a target to fly to. I would have cut the healing to the Pharah a little early to fly to the rest of my team and try to help your Moira out since she has her hands full here.
10:58 - I would have tried to give your Rein some heals as he was getting charged. It’s a small window but it could have been enough to save his life since you Moira’s ultimate was right next to him when he died.
11:01 - A super jump Rez on your Rein could have been huge here (if you can pull those off). Otherwise it wouldn’t be a good idea to go for a standard Rez.
11:02 - You’ve been pocketing your Pharah since 10:48 with a small break and she’s just taken a lot of damage without doing much here, it might be better to focus your resources elsewhere like with the McCree on the first point. It’s tough but dumping too many resources into someone who isn’t performing can cause fights to be lost. Your team needs some picks and Pharah isn’t giving your team that, even with a lot of focus from you.
11:05 - You’re barely surviving both here and on the first point, but as Mercy if you can do that it helps carry for your team as she regens so quickly (her self healing kicks if after 1 second of taking no damage). Staying with your Pharah here for now is your best option since most of your team had been eliminated.
11:12 - Your Pharah finally gets a pick which is a good start to stabilizing here. Your ultimate value is fairly low since you are still just pocketing your Pharah, it could have really helped your team out of 2 or 3 members of your team were grouped together that you could heal as they tried to re-take the point.
11:14 - You could likely get this Rez on your fallen D.va. If you were successful, she calls in the mech and it gives your team a much greater chance at stabilizing here, especially with that kill that your Pharah had earlier. I think you could get away with it because the enemy Rein was on the high ground when he used the fire-strike on her and would need to be aware that you went down there to Rez here and then would need to drop down there to attack you, which would take the enemy Rein away from the main fight for several seconds at the very least.
11:17 - You guardian angel about the same time as the enemy Zarya uses her ultimate. Not really your fault but you could have guardian angeled to your fallen Pharah and attempted to Rez here from behind that middle pillar.
11:26 - Your McCree gets a pick on the enemy Genji. If you had Rez’ed the D.va earlier the enemy team would have been down both DPS and I’d say you would have had a real shot at retaking that 2nd point and stabilizing (assuming the D.va would have tried here). Close one though. Don’t get too down on yourself for plays like guardian angeling into the Zarya ultimate, just try to be more aware of that for next time if you can or cancel your guardian angel mid-flight to avoid getting caught in it if possible.
I’m going to stop the review of this game since the D.va wasn’t giving your team a real shot at winning.
Next Game:
29:38 - It is definitely sub-optimal here to be alternating between healing and damage, you should just be damage boosting your Ashe and can switch to healing if she gets hit.
29:42 - I would have stopped pocketing the Ashe for a moment and topped off your Rein, then went back to your Ashe. Getting the most out of healing and damage boosting will put you give you that edge to carry. I will say, at lower ranks, it can be considerably more difficult to carry on Mercy because she is very team reliant, while at higher ranks if you can just stay alive you are usually carrying your team since you’ll be hunted down by elite players.
29:51 - Your Rein almost goes down and I would put that death on you since you could easily have given him some healing here. Putting it all on your Ana is risky because your Ana might be behind cover, healing someone else, miss a shot, or your Rein could take a very high amount of damage that requires both Ana and Mercy healing.
29:58 - Glad you healed your Rein here, but since he has a high health already from the Ana nade, I’d be looking to target your Zarya with healing or go back to damage boosting your Ashe. Healing your Zarya looks like higher priority to me at the moment.
30:09 - Going for the immediate pocket on your Ashe after Rez-ing here is not ideal here, I would try to give your Rein some healing sincec your Ana went down. It’s more dangerous to give your Rein some healing, but he as long as you don’t die here it’s more valuable.
30:16 - This super jump is only okay here because the enemy Widow got picked. If the enemy Widow was still alive a super jump here would be too dangerous and risky for yourself.
30:43 - You’re pocketing your Widow here instead of being with your Rein. You’re putting all the healing on your Ana again and it’s not the way to carry here because you’re heavily relying on your Widow getting a lot of value from your damage boost to carry here. Widow doesn’t need the damage boost to make a play, you should be closer to your team healing your Rein.
30:52 - Simply damage boosting your DPS when they are near your spawn doesn’t mean it’s valuable. I would imagine that neither of them had more that 1 chance to take a shot, if that. Looking to maximize your value in both healing and damage boosting will help give you more value as Mercy.
30:55 - If you were closer to your front line here, you may have kept your Ana alive which may have allowed her to keep your Rein alive. Your Zarya also has almost no chance of getting out alive, and if she has a high charge (say 70%+) it’s a lot of value lost since she’ll have to get that charge back up again from 0% once she respawns. If you were able to save just here by being a little closer to your front line, your Zarya could have continued to get energy and pressure the enemy team, even with both your Rein and Ana down.
30:58 - I stand corrected, she made it out alive with a lot of health. Well in many similar situations she may have died there with more focus fire, but it’s great for your team that she made it out, especially if she has charge.
31:06 - You get your first ultimate here, it took you 1:35
33:38 - Some solid team fights up to here. You mention the Rez on your Ana is “not necessary”. While that’s technically true, I would still do it 10/10 times here because it allows your Ana to be in the fight much faster than if she were to respawn and have to regroup with the team. It keeps her from being solo targeted by a flanker who wants to spawn camp if there was one, and allows her to make a play or two when she otherwise would be rejoining your team. I doubt that you’ll have a good opportunity for a Rez in the next 25 seconds.
33:50 - It’s fine to push the cart here by yourself, but it’s much more optimal if your Ana pushes the cart while you are closer to your team so that you can both heal your team. If you can communicate to your Ana that you want to do this or just take the initiative of not pushing the cart as Mercy you should be better off most of the time.
34:06 - Wow I nearly lost that bet, your Rez had only been off cooldown for a few seconds when your Junk died. But you still were immediately able to Rez him so overall it was still good value to Rez your Ana since you had zero opportunities to Rez before that.
34:07 - This is an unnecessarily risky Rez. You can cancel your guardian angel when you are at the edge of the platform and then let yourself decend down with your glide ability while using the Rez to shield yourself from any possible threats (except from behind of course) with the structure. You were even bubbled by your Zarya because your Rez was extra risky and you could have died if the enemy Widow had her sights on you here.
34:25 - The decision to stay with healing the Zarya over the Rein is unnecessarily risky here. If the Rein was hit by 2 enemies at the same time or just 1 enemy with decent DPS you probably couldn’t save the Rein. I would have definitely healed the Rein at least a little.
34:30 - Your Rein going down there is mostly on you for not giving him much heals before. I know he shouldn’t have dropped his shield for the fire-strike and all, but you could have given him significantly more healing. Remember, two tanks that are both half health is much better than one tank who is nearly full and one tank who is almost out of health.
35:11 - You potentially throw this fight with your guardian angel here. Not only do you not have Rez (not that you could even get it off probably) your Ashe is over-extended and dies, but you are caught without your guardian angel away from your team and end up getting killed because of it. Your team had a lot of kills here and if they don’t win this fight, this decision is mostly to blame, as staying alive as Mercy in winnable team fights should always be your #1 goal.
35:23 - I’m glad you’re able to recognize your mistake here, trying to make the better decision on the fly to not put yourself in those situations will really help give your team more chances to win team fights.
36:45 - Glad you and your team still was able to get the payload all the way.
37:18 - You just need to make a quick decision and think of a few things when guardian angeling to your team:
1.) Are they able to be saved by my healing?
2.) Is it safe for me to go there?
3.) Do I have an escape to other team mates here?
Don’t overthink it, but practice looking to avoid the bad guardian angels, maybe even say it audibly when you see a bad guardian angel opportunity when you think about taking it but avoid it instead.
That’s all I’m going to review for now. Hope you got some useful information from this review. If you’d like me to review some more gameplay I’d be down. I’m a 3950 SR peak SR Zen main who can play all the Supports at a Master level. Go Seahawks!
