Climbing is too slow this season?

I know last season was a bit much, where you could finish your 5 wins and somehow go up 3 STD’s, but it seems like this season is way too slow.

I’ve been sitting on a 67% winrate and it takes forever to climb an tier, it feels like I’ve been in masters 3 forever. Comp games are crazy long and only getting 20% from a 25 minute game where you go 56-3 doesn’t feel right. And especially the fact that you can lose so much despite having a leaver (and rolling the team before the leaver) just sucks. It just seems like you need to hardcore grind this season and perform at your peak every game to climb, personally I only play comp when I know I’m feeling good and playing well so this is difficult.

It also feels like placements are the be all end all, I know someone who was consistently low masters throughout OW2, got lucky in their placements and got GM5 and hasn’t touched comp since. With the rank reset I don’t understand why you can get GM from
roughly ~10-15 games.

Thoughts?

It’s a tough one to call. If you’re top 500 climbing for champion then it’s fair to make it as tough as possible as it’s the holy grail.

HOWEVER-we’ve all seen the footage on videos of people being clobbered with unreal negative SR when they lose a close game, or losing SR when they WIN a game. Looks like it’s a work in progress situation. But tbh it needs to be tough for people in top 500 climing for champion. Elsewhere-it’s not working as intended

On the plus side I’m trash so these things don’t affect me lmao

I can understand GM to champion being particularly difficult, as champion is meant to be an exclusive rank, but masters? I’m consistently winning games and performing well but it just takes so damn long to climb back to GM. I’ve been GM for a long time and t500 seems to be mostly masters at the moment so it doesn’t seem right.

To be honest I’ve never been masters, so I’m not aware of how hard it is. But I’m hearing a lot of negative things about masters climbs, especially when it concerns losing games. I have a feeling this is something that will be “looked at” for midseason patch

this account was masters 2 at the end of last season, it placed diamond 4. got to d1 earlier today. if blizzard wasn’t a bad company and actually provided decent stats id let you know what my overall winrate was but the best I can do I tell you that my zen winrate is 78% (12 and 3, this would imply 80% but I you know) and even on the streak I was on today, I was gaining 20 to 24% so roughly the same as ow1 but thats with a win streak modifier.

cant wait to jump on my gm main when the suspension is up and have to do it all over again

Intruiging to see this bit MonkaHmm

Yeah seems like OW1 again, but I think OW1 gave a bit more for winstreak? I remember getting 100sr for wins on a new account.

I guess the placements make some sense due to the rank reset. I think OW1 & current S9 OW2 rank climbs too slow, but S1-S8 OW2 were too fast, maybe they need some in between, like 25-30% instead of 20-25% for a normal streak? But like I remember getting 8% for an uphill battle like what lol so it seems like it’s a bit buggy in general

lol ya they will sure look at it and break it even more. They do not know how to balance anything in this game.

why? theyve been pretty trigger happy with account actions this season.
report someone who types in chat next game you play, youll probably get a notification the next day.

new accounts were different. you gained and lost massive amounts if it was the accounts first time placing in ranked.

I personally thought the standard being +/- 24 for the average to be pretty fair. you gained less as you went up in rank so you had to maintain a higher rinrate to climb.

I honest think it is just the fact that you cant see the exact number when you are queueing or checking your profile.

gaining 50% progress now means nothing when you’re still d2. where as going from 3400 to say 3462 has something to show for the effort.

That’s true sorry

To each their own, I’m personally not someone who enjoys grinding comp and only play when I’m playing well/feel good, so that’s probably why I prefer slightly bigger losses/wins.

Agree with this definitely, I remember in OW1 especially in GM there was such a reasonably big difference between say for example 4.2k and 4.3k. So it’d be nice to see the exact number on the profile. Even if not visible on profile, just having some way to check your progress would be really nice because I often forget what % I’m at lol!

they have a competitive progress tab, idk why they don’t just put it in there fi they are dead set on now showing it openly

I really don’t even understand the point of the current competitive progress tab, you can just see your rank (like on your profile or when you go to Q comp) so it’s not really telling us anything new? I guess it also shows progress towards points for jade weapons?

Oh so it was a good reason to quit comp all that time ago. Didn’t know it could give me chlamydia

Welp, this is what all the kids didn’t understand with the perpetual Placements format from previous system

Welcome to the Overwatch 1 grind xD

I played a ton of OW1, I really didn’t like the system back then either tbf. It was too slow, although this feels definitely slower, I swear I have gotten multiple 5% boosts??? (not even for expected, just random 5%?)

Sigh, the 21 points from win, the -25 from lose, and the -50 from DC xD

Those are regulated by the end of each match by our own performance

We are watching every step of the way, what it was shown before at the end of the series

And its sad xD
