Checking in on the doomers. Are they okay?

Starting off with Freedo, once a level 200 shill, who reacted positively to the large majority of the announcements before abruptly cocluding “too little, too late.”

Next up Asmongold, more of a general blizzard doomer than just OW. Saw a headline saying lootboxes are back, incorrectly assumed it wad paid gambling, went to the Overwatch subreddit to look for people complaining, scrolled past a dozen posts about actual gameplay updates to find one about the lootboxes, then was mad that nobody was complaining, and then sonehow rambled for another 45 minutes about lootboxes and uploaded it to his channel. Sure, I’ll agree the lootbox announcement was confusing, but come on you think a professional political commentator could do better than this

Then our good friend Samito, was surprisingly very positive about almost everything they showed, but then he remembered he’s supposed to be a doomer and went on some weird 20 minute rant about how Overwatch has too much overt political messaging to succeed now since it’s no longer a game you can play “with the boys”. Yeah…

I think it’s pretty clearly a case of Blizzard derangement syndrome that’s going to keep this one way forced rivalry with MR alive way after it gets old. Kinda reminds me of the ancient tf2 vs OW debate and how there are still a few tf2 fanboys who insist their game “beat” OW.

Asmon has the right to be upset. It doesn’t matter if you agree with him or not on this particular issue, but he sums it up well - he defended OW2 for the fact lootboxes are removed and took a lot of crap for it only for them to backtrack on it now and make him look like a fool. He didn’t even critisize the changes, he was just upset about this specific thing.

And I agree that the lootboxes will be a terrible change - because you bet they will monetize it and bring gambling back. And - first, in no way they will make it “as good” as it was in OW1 (because that will make all their current shop things obsolete), and - second, even in OW1 it “was good” only because OW1 was B2P and didn’t (yet) have the gall to make it as trashy as the market was at the time.

For too long gamers got used to things just being garbage, so even lootboxes seem like a great thing. Just goes to show how common the slop has become.

Why are you wasting so much time watching these people? Their opinions mean nothing.

Asmongold a professional political commentator is crazy. :joy: maybe a professional waste mismanagement. Or a professional waifu wisher. But a professional political commentator is wild.

I mean that’s his brand at this point.

I don’t know too because I don’t like him (nor dislike him, I just don’t care much). But you stating something also doesn’t make it the truth, so there’s that too.

yea I never considered him an OW doomer. maybe a doomer on the future of the white r…

ima stop there

He’s fine until he starts talking about DEI. Then You just roll your eyes and skip over it.

Also I’m not sure he’s a blizzard doomer considering all his time with WoW. He’s just disgusting and rich.

Man I am totally shocked that Samito has gone down that particular rabbit hole. Who could have possibly seen that coming?

Lmao.

I mean he’s not wrong. Can we not just have good games to play to disconnect from the real world with the little free time we have without all the messaging virtue signaling?

Ooooh. That explains that lootbox thread, lol.

It’s funny how they’re now “Doomers” when originally they were the ones who couldn’t shut up about how amazing OW2 was gonna be.

To be fair, it doesn’t take much to make Asmongold look like a fool.

Man I hate to break it to you but Overwatch is about multiple international organisations - that means it’s about people from all parts of the world. If you have an issue with that, you have a fundamental issue with Overwatch and have since 2015. You are literally playing the wrong game.

Complaining about diversity in Overwatch is like complaining about foreigners in the UN General Assembly - that’s the entire point, dingus.

Never mind the fact that the story is literally a Civil Rights allegory and - again - has been since 2016.

Just want to note that they legally can’t in a number of European countries so I highly doubt they will.

Is it time again, where no names on a forum try to talk down quite influential people for OW or gaming in general? I thought we had this a few days ago…

The thing is, that the spotlight was nice, but like Freedo said, too late. It would had much more of an impact BEFORE Rivals released or if they teased more over time. The changes are all good and make the game interesting, but I still think they dont fix the funder mental problems with the game.

It made him look like a fool even before Blizzard “backtracked” on it.
The new monetization model was obviously way more predatory, anti-consumer and heavily focused on abusing fomo and whales with a pathological spending behavior, than the lootboxes in OW1.

Free lootboxes returning is an absolute win for the players and it is hilarious that he still doesn’t understand it.

Unfortunately it’s one of the many times where he has a very strong opinion on something he is very poorly informed about.

The only region where I could see them doing it is China, because it is a massive market.
Too many western countries have laws preventing them from doing so and OW2 isn’t as much of a cash cow as e.g. Genshin Impact, so working around all the regional restrictions is not worth the hassle and the risk for the rest of the world.
