Cheaters have taken over the game

I know this topic will be deleted, but the reality is that the game is so filled with cheaters right now it’s unreal. And worst of all…other players defend them to no end, never seen this in any other game. Today has been particularly bad, I don’t think i’ve seen so many during a single gaming session.

Best way to disincentivize Cheaters
1 - Return to 6v6
2 - disable role queue
3 - balance the game properly.
(difficulty medium - blizzard skill: Game Journalist)

The only role that can deal with cheaters effectively are tanks and the more we move away from them the more the game becomes ripe for cheaters. In Open queue people will swap to 2-1(bastion)-2 or 3-0-2 to deal with them and it works often enough.

I think you’re a bit naive if you think this would have even a remote impact on cheating. The #1 thing that incentivizes cheating is the fact that the game is free to play. Even aside from that, tanking won’t really do a lot. Aimbots will exist unless the game literally removes aiming as a requirement, and other types of cheats such as wallhacks would be largely unaffected by the number of tanks and mitigation in the game because those don’t have anything to do with those cheats.

Cheaters want to wreck, its how they get their enjoyment. If they get walled by tanks then they don’t get that enjoyment thus leave the game. Also there’s nothing as fun as beating cheaters. Cheaters also just suck at the game as while they can hit their shots, they tend to horribly misposition themselves thus allowing for tanks to do their job, punish bad positioning.

That’s true for some, but certainly not all. Most cheaters just want an advantage or a crutch to overcome issues they have trouble with. They don’t need to dominate every game going 40-0 with McCree landing 30% crits.

Cheating existed in OW long before 5v5. Long before role queue. It’s existed in every stage of the game’s balance. You’re fooling yourself if you think any of those three things will make a noticeable impact.

I think a lot of people wouldn’t agree with this but a kernel-level anti-cheat is a necessity at this point if you want to even put a dent on the cheating problem. Then there needs to be some kind of way to moderate lobbies so that cheaters can get booted more quickly. I really miss community servers in multiplayer games, now that we are at the mercy of RNG matchmakers the fight against cheaters is basically lost.

Side note: I know you cannot completely root out all cheaters, but right now cheating has made almost all multiplayer games unplayable for me.

its no fun at all like its becoming hard to tell who is legit and who is a cheater

? none of these three items relate to cheating in ANY way.

I usually test for x ray vision by trying to sneak on the cheaters. I think a lot of people are using wallhacks or some sort of cheat that indicates to them when they are flanked or someone is behind them. Then I look at people with impossibly good aim and in a lot of cases it’s paired with the worst positioning and general game sense. Humans usually have tunnel vision and set on a target for more than a fraction of a second, but when I see someone hits all shots but chaotically switches from target to target especially when they’re close together…there is also a pattern as of late where my team rolls the enemy team for several fights, sometimes a full round…then one or two people in the enemy team go from missing all their shots and not being able to do much to hitting everything, seeing through walls, etc., and it’s so obvious sometimes that they just toggled on cheats.

And what I hate the most is that this is the only game where cheaters have fierce defenders among legit players. If you call bs on a possible cheater you get trash talked to the end of the match by people being rolled by the cheater/cheaters. I think this game is the most enjoyable one for cheaters as they get to laugh at the legit players defending them against any and all hackusations. Reporting works sometimes as i get several “thank you” messages every time I open the game, but every time I return to the game the queue time is worse, the toxicity is up, and there are more cheaters.

there are aimbots that are not detected by warden anticheat i wish i could have a friend examine both the anticheat program and these cheat software and see if its possible to embed the cheats into the anti cheat as there has to be some sort of common string of code that isnt changed in updates that could be used against those who make the aimbots among other things heck im choosing to not play today as i had a really bad time last night

There had been there since OW 1, and they still have like 30 smurfs accounts until they get banned from them and that will take a long time sadly.

Tbh I’ve never witnessed a definitive cheater in the game. I’ve played since launch of Ow1 (way less of Ow2) and I’ve seen some things where I have questioned “are they cheating?” but then as the game goes on it’s clear that they aren’t and either I was just stupid and poked from around the corner at the wrong time or they just got a lucky shot.

I feel like it’s easy to say “that person is clearly cheating” when they’re outperforming me, especially when they’re playing the same hero I am and they’re just getting so many kills while I have half of theirs.

I never play comp, simply qp and sometimes an arcade like mystery heroes, is most of the cheating in comp?

Today I played a game, I was Hanzo and There was a clunky Reaper that wasn’t very sneaky (he was the second Reaper in all of the games I’ve played that has claimed I was cheating too).

He wrote:

“oh andy”
“thats funny”
“u having fun with that?”
“kill cam don’t lie”

The kill cam doesn’t lie, he’d walk from around a corner I was covering and I’d get him in the face. I didn’t even kill him that many times, and the other dps was more precise than I was. I had a tough time against the Genji and the rest of the team, but the Reaper was just so easy.

I take being called a cheater as a kind of compliment because I don’t cheat and honestly I think all cheaters shouldn’t be outright banned, I think they should be moved to a cheaters only lobby as a sort of purgatory. They want to cheat? Well so do their buddies! So have fun playing with all cheaters!

It’s not that people defend actual cheaters, just so many people accuse people who are not cheating of being cheaters. People are just skeptical when they see ppl claim that almost every game has a cheater in it, and then they play the game themselves and rarely ever think they see a cheater.

I’ve seen someone here claim that they had 6-7 cheaters per game for multiple days straight. Like, that’s just so statistically impossible, only someone very gullible would believe it.

Try to raise this topic in CS go. They claim there’s no cheater there. Like at all. You know why? Because if everyone has cheats, than no one has.

About to go play for another 5 hours.
I’ll report back if I see a cheater.
(Haven’t seen one in years at this point)
So uhh, I probably won’t be back.

I think what we are seeing mostly are people using aim assist controllers and that needs to be REMOVED from the game.

I hear people all the time, complain that they need aim assist and do not want it taken away.

Games like Halo never had an “aim assist” and a person did have to learn how to play those titles without any sort of aim assist. Prior to that. Games had aim assist built in for the reason of clunky joysticks from the 90s. Today. we dont have that issue. Everything is precise input.

The other issue is CROSSPLAY. The servers do not sync up when there is the extra networking involved, so a person is being hit through walls, and it comes off as cheating. Which again. Crossplay needs to be OPTIONAL for all platforms, with the caveat if a person turns it on. They are informed that “The ideal gameplay experience will become worse and may cause matches to be unfair”.

Finally, we are seeing PING abuse in this game. where players are pinging people that they barely see, and instantly it seams like people are WALL HACKING, when they may not be.

in the end. there is minimal fixes to this game, since it is line for a buyout here soon. So they will continue to let the game dumpster itself and not resolve anything.

Time to make aimbot mandatory. Get on it, Blizzard!

i agree there are TONS of cheaters as per reports, anecdotal experience, and data on banwaves.

it could also be “new player aim assist” and other DDA tech.
to help them compete in a fast arena-like team-shooter ft. 7 years of nolife alt accnts.

They really broke the game when they decided to take control of player i/o and throttle things like aim-assist, hitboxes, reg tolerances, cd prio, etc.

It’s criminally negligent, and Aaron is intentionally obfuscating the truth of the matter: rigging helps profits by keeping broader audience engaged and feeling good about themselves.

I like all 3 suggestions but IDK about them doing as good against cheaters

Easiest way to disincentivise cheating is to have widesweeping manual bans for obvious ragehacking which is rampant in this game in QP and high SR competitive gameplay.

For example next door in Valorant, servers with little manual review presence (HK, Sydney, EUE, etc.) wallhack/triggerbot/AI aimbot is pretty bad, but they are significantly less present in NA where it’s a double whammy of personnel usually catching them before they reach a higher rank + the higher risk of cheating makes it less worthwhile so there are less cheaters as well. But if you play a game on a less moderated server you are lucky if you aren’t getting someone doing something fishy every game.

In Australia (my primary server) cheating is ridiculously rampant in every game for a variety of reasons and I estimate that every rank you progress above Diamond adds another cheater to your lobby on average.
