Cheaters Are Now Bolder/Cockier

Just watched on stream a pair of cheaters in competitive not only boast of using cheats, but tell people in the match text chat to cry more. And that they don’t mind making another account.

This is beyond disgusting, and it is clear that your “ban waves” aren’t working. Nor is whatever joke of an anti-cheat that you’re using. Nor strategies at reducing the amount of cheaters on neither console nor PC. OW2 is now just as bad as Apex Legends. And if you think that there aren’t as many cheaters running rampant, then you’re delusional. It’s one thing for people to dismiss it, but an entirely different case when folks are getting cocky about it in text chat.

Side Note: What happened to people getting actioned over toxicity in text chat? Because outside of cheaters, the toxicity in this game is at the highest point it has ever been. And now, it’s reaching a point where I’m not second-guessing even being bothered to watch streams of it. Tired of seeing: Racial slurs, folks telling others to off themselves, etc. in the match chat. Or hearing folks screaming in voice chat. So now, even your viewing experience is going downhill.

This is my anecdotal experience but I think detection and report reviewing is not the problem. Like, there was a period I didn’t report anyone, encountered a hacking widow, reported her, and bam like a few days later I get the Thank You screen.
And all this without a kernel Anti-Cheat, which is a godsend to a Linux player like me (and to Steam Deck players!), that is very impressive!
The issue seems to be that bypassing the ban with a new account doesn’t seem to be that much of an problem for hackers, so waiting so much time between banwaves is pointless because hackers can return in a day or 2, there is no down time and the ban system contributes to that a lot.
I think devs need to take a closer look at how the cheaters are able to evade hardware/network ban, but that’s just my take from an outsider.

They need to make it harder to create alts but they wont.

How do they make it harder that also isn’t an issue for new playing trying the game?

From what I have seen, often it’s not new alts but purchased accounts, especially old OW1 ones, since they don’t require linking phone numbers.

Do phone verification. I know they tried before and it wasnt popular but these days so many apps want your number and people give it freely, so it shouldnt be a big issue.

It’s a good thing new accounts do require phone verification then…

They need to hardware and IP ban.

You do still need a phone number for pc accounts. I’ve heard that is not the case for console. Every account made since ow2 requires a number, ow1 accounts do not. Well, I think the ow1 account had to log in within some time frame, but still.

There are no hardware/network bans because it is always ineffective and backfiring

No. If you don’t understand how problematic it is, and how useless at the same time, then you shouldn’t even try to talk nonsense

// to be fair, I can’t be sure that there are no hw bans, but it is very likely that there are not

Explain how it’s problematic?

That it is relatively easy to bypass, and at the same time can easily set up innocent people. It has been discussed dozens of times even here

Could you explain why it’s problematic, in a TLDR sense? I’m not going to investigate it.

Hardware bans are bad because it means hardware cannot be resold without very high risk of the third party unknowingly buying banned hardware, which basically destroys the entire industry. Nobody would be able to ever purchase used hardware anymore. Additionally a lot of hardware IDs can be spoofed, making it easy to bypass. Cheat developers would provide such tools for their paying customers, so you dont even need to know anything about how to do this.

IP bans do not work because IP addresses are dynamic (at least for like 99.999% of residential connections). They get cycled out routinely so a banned IP can be reassigned to anyone else at any time. Depending on the ISP, some may let you release and lease out a new IP address at any time, meaning some players could easily circumvent the ban while causing a major headache for innocent players.

Those cheaters use VPN and spoofed hardware id so Blizzard can’t do anything against them. They are even provided with a simple tool or tutorial.

Kernel anti cheats will just delay the inevitable because cheaters already found a way to bypass it by using a modified DMA card, and cheat providers already sell a complete package with easy to follow guide so every joe shmoe can do it.

Only way to stop cheater is to force people to register their account with a valid social security number like what they’re doing in South Korea. So they can’t easily make a new account again unless they use their mother or brothers SSN lol.

Why wouldn’t they be? There are cheaters in almost every game, they are not subtle about it

And what is blizzard doing about it, Oh nothing at all, they are busy creating new Kiri skin, and inventing new useless ways to punishing leavers in qp

It’s a mess, But as long as Blizzard doesn’t give a damn it will get worse. It would be extremely simple to solve by having 1 account per user and bankID to identify the user

Yes, it is that simple. So blizzard can fix it, but they don’t care

There will always be cheaters. If it’s that aggravating for you, the only option is to not play.

The only way they could prevent cheating is to force players to sign their lives away whole sale… phone numbers, gov’t ID numbers, even stricter hardware monitoring, cameras in your room watching you

Playing OW would feel like a dystopian day dream and the entire point, that is, to check out and have some fun with a video game would be defeated. In other words, the safeguards against hacking would be so strict that it would suck out all the fun and no one would play the game anyway.

when every match is rigged into oblivion, the only cheaters are devs themselves. anti-riggers are the avengers. the righteous organic essence that counteracts developer deviousness. one thing that competitive exceptionals will not tolerate is artificially tampering with their winstreaks. imagine waiting 5 -10 minutes for hamster wheel.

ONLYLEGS loses entire current match. Unless devs reverse rig it, live, to counteract prediction.
